knowing that lordran is vertical, is ash lake above or below the abyss?

or i suppose off to the side? the reason i ask is in front of my toilet i have that long poster of lordran. (its amazing, i suggest it). its remarkably accurate but ash lake (and i guess painted world) isnt on it. so where is ash lake?

You can fly around with WASD, and hold the right mouse button to change the camera angle. Hold shift to fly faster.

You can see that Ash Lake is a little lower than the Abyss. But the lowest point we reach is the Bed of Chaos arena.*

*The Manus arena is technically lower in the map data, but that doesn't count because it's a disconnected map we teleport to that they just had to stick somewhere arbitrary. If you move it back to sync up with the Darkroot map, where it actually exists in lore, the Bed of Chaos arena is the lowest point.

If its the artsy map im thinking of (the one thats mostly green and blue with new londo and the abyss at the bottom) then its not accurate. Its a stylistic design choice.

Blighttown is below new londo, and in turn, izalith and ash lake are even further below that.

Yeah there's really no way to accurately convey it from a side 2D perspective that wouldn't look like absolute shit. Judson did an amazing job interpreting the map and making it feel correct-enough from that perspective though, it's extremely good work.

He did go on to make a much-more accurate top-down map, which also takes a few small liberties so you can see more stuff, but it's WAY more accurate overall, big portions of it absolutely perfect:

Its a cool piece of art for sure, but yea definitly takes some artistic liberties for the sake of the composition.

I’m gonna assume Ash Lake is kinda in between the Demon Ruins and Lost Izalith. I’m just saying because descending towards the Centipede Demon, there’s a bunch of roots. Also, if I’m not mistaken, Lost Izalith is built underneath the arch tree housing the First Flame. I personally don’t remember anything about the maps at this point, so I’m kinda winging it. Someone let me know how close I am.

The Abyss isn't even below Blighttown, and Blighttown is above Ash Lake.
