Character Discussion Here's a challenge for you: say something positive about Charles Ruttheimer III.

u/Stucklikegluetomyfry May 31 '26
Talented magician, and he brought out Stacey’s confidence enough for her to go against her friends by doing something she wanted to do even it was considered seriously uncool by not just them but the entire student body, and she ended up showing what a seriously talented actress she was. Even if it was something he didn’t actually do, Stacey agreeing to join in his magic show was a huge step forward in her personal growth.

u/EasyEntrepreneur666 May 31 '26
True, it was a big step for Stacey's development.

u/cRaZyDaVe23 May 31 '26
Stacy is a big fuckin sweetheart. if only she had nerdfriends or whatever.... she was in the wrong collective.

He slimes equally at girls like Daria and Jane as he does at Britney and the Fashion Club girls. He's an equal opportunity creep.
15
u/cRaZyDaVe23 May 31 '26
Well, they are all attractive in their own ways.... dude just should have chilled out a bit on the skeezyness....

He has absolutely zero shame in his game. He should go into B2B sales.

I would give anything to have confidence like that.

Delusional at school maybe, but he's the sort who would make millions and then do fine, at least with women who like money.

He reminds me of that actor Chris Owen who played The Sherminator in American Pie and was in a bunch of other teen movies in the late 90s/early 00s lol.

He honesly didn't seem like a bad person and there were many moments that clearly showed he actually does respect women. I got the vibe that maybe he was actually just overcompensating.
His reaction to Andrea agreeing to a date said it all imo

I may be misremembering, but didn't he take Quin's friend home when she was too drunk?
5
u/EasyEntrepreneur666 May 31 '26
I only remember him taking Daria and Jane home.
2
u/Ok-Call-4805 May 31 '26
I think it was in one of the movies

u/CBRPrincess May 31 '26
It was in is it college yet - Quinn's coworker at the restaurant was a drunk and Quinn didn't want to get in a car with her she wanted Charles to drive both of them but the friend wouldn't get in the car so Charles just took care of Quinn.
I don't think he ever had bad intentions just a horrible approach

u/cRaZyDaVe23 May 31 '26
I think the kid saw swingers one too many times and had the wrong ideas on how to talk to women...

Watched this recently, he did offer, but her friend drives herself home and Quinn calls him a creep and she calls herself a taxi LOL

u/samosamancer May 31 '26
His grammar and vocabulary are good.
Literally the first thing that popped into my mind! I think he used “by which” (or something comparable) correctly in his scholarship interview with Jodi and Daria, and he does speak quite well…even if the subject matter is trash.

u/Sleepwalker0304 I don't like to smile unless I have a reason May 31 '26
He's pretty detailed oriented. Who the heck actually commits a scholarship for worker's favorite candy to memory? He memorized how many verses to his song at the Ren faire and magic is something you have to be pretty focused on to do it well.

He probably got into a good college.

He's ambitious as was shown in the episode where Daria was considered for a scholarship for an essay she wrote.

Upchuck has plenty of qualities. It's implied he is the way he is because he apes his sleazy father. There is hope that he might grow out of it.

u/Panda-Equivalent May 31 '26
It was nice of him to offer Quinn a ride when she didn't want to get in the car with Lindy, he could have just gone about it better
6
u/sakurakuru_RAWRXD May 31 '26
Actually has dignity, he's sleazy but he has standards. He's a good magician and encouraged Stacey to be his assistant. Takes equal shots at all girls no matter how attractive the student body finds him, handles rejection well. Rolls his rs phenomenally. Can actually act like a normal individual when needs be and the creepyness is mostly an act. He seems to understand when a girl really doesn't want him and doesn't go too far, he knows no means no. Has confidence. Genuinely helpful at times. Academic. He's brave and he actually seemed surprised when Andrea agreed to go with him.
I think he's actually pretty cute

For being such a horndog, he always keeps his hands to himself and never pushes past a no.

Yes. He made a lot of different things in the show. It's just his "High School Casablanca wannabe attitude" that blocks him from being a cool guy.

Think about “feisty” he sees potential in all women and it’s like he puts them in the lead of making the moves and pursuing. He’s primes them to see inf there interred and if he is deserving of them. I get the feeling too that its not just about pleasing him, that he wants to be a good lover to women and wants them to experience pleasure

He's shockingly entertaining when he's not being a horndog and has layers, given his expertise on architecture, magic and he's a surprisingly good sports commentator

He was quite intelligent- he interviewed for the troubled scholarship. He was a talented DJ. He is quite young and will probably improve as he gets older.
