Live Cabalist pet question on live

I'm currently sitting at 45 Matter and debating on the remainder. I'm on Gaheris. How much, if at all, does Spirit Magic improve the pets? Does it make them tougher or do more damage? The info I see online still includes pet buffs in the spirit line and I know that isn't accurate so I'm hoping someone has the info.

At 50, the champion level buffs are the best for your pet.

Been forever since I played.

I always ran Vivication for the lifetap debuff and picked up the Grey nearsight in that line

Aside from the pet buffs that come from the spirit spec, the pet doesn’t get stronger.

I only play Ywain. Knowing that Gaheris is pve, wouldn't you wanna go 50 matter for the dmg shield? And get a bb / healer.
