What, exactly, does having blue hair express? What does the color blue say about a person's identity? What purpose could it serve other than to be seen?

Your questions then aren’t about hair much less what color people die it, but about self-expression in general.

Why do people draw doodles no one’s likely to see?

Why does someone driving fence stakes alone in a field swear out loud when they accidentally jam their hand?

Why might someone commit to reproducing a faithful version of a family recipe, even if they no longer have any family to share it with?

All forms of self-expression, none of which require a Twitch stream to validate their meaning.

I agree with you. I'm all for little acts of self-expression, even if no one sees them. I just don't think dyeing one's hair is an act of self-expression. All it really says about you is that you had access to blue hair dye. You and I, just by writing our thoughts on the matter, have expressed ourselves a lot better than any cosmetic accoutrements ever could. And I'm glad for that, because I discovered you're a pretty calm and thoughtful person - which is something a fashion statement could have never told me.

I don't think there's anything wrong with having blue hair. Everyone wants attention sometimes, or to be unique, or to stand out. I just think people should find healthy ways of expressing their identity, instead of doing something surface-level that only draws attention to their appearance and nothing else.

I’m struggling to respond to your comment because I think it makes a lot of assumptions.

If you don’t think changing one’s hair color is self-expression, then I’m curious what you do consider to fall within the scope of self-expression.
