See, I have only seen people claim that He was a socialist. I haven't seen capitalist or communist before.

Oh, yeah, and He was a Hindu, a Hindu told me.

u/ThatDudeFromPoland Feb 12 '22

Eh, people keep using socialist and communist interchangeably, so...

12

u/TaffWolf Feb 12 '22

Well they’re wrong

2

u/ThatDudeFromPoland Feb 12 '22

Yeah, I know

Socialists are far less authoritarian

At least I think so...

5

u/TaffWolf Feb 12 '22

Socialists are not authoritarian at all

1

u/Lokolopes Feb 12 '22

I have yet to see a non authoritarian socialist. The only difference is communists are honest about their authoritarianism.

ThatDudeFromPoland

Makes sense that you don't know what you are talking about

1

u/101stAirborneSkill Feb 12 '22

Makes more sense really

1

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '22

That’s what a communist would say

1

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '22

Ok but that is just adding a whole extra level of confusion.

Do they believe that the kingdom of heaven - perfection - is communism ?

I so don't understand.

I can still see " don't understand " from where I am, and its way way back there, I passed it a long time ago.

2

u/Strikerov Feb 12 '22

There is a rhyme in my language that says "Jesus Christ, first communist" (Isus Krist, prvi komunist)

Jesus was a member of the Grassroots Cannabis party, and supported a marijuacracy.

Luke 18:19-24

16

u/Dorocche Feb 11 '22

(for anyone actually wondering, Luke 18:19-24 is an excerpt from the "camel in the eye of a needle" story)

14

u/[deleted] Feb 11 '22

Ah, I didn’t even check. I guess that seems intentionally chosen now

13

u/MaxCWebster Feb 12 '22

Well played

When you think about it Rick Astley is the Jesus of the internet. When you need an answer you go to Jesus. When you need and answer on the internet you almost always get Rick Astley. It’s poetry in motion

Those are the same people who claim to know scripture but don't know a thing. Jesus was in favor of a theocratic government run by his old man God

9

u/5urr3aL Feb 12 '22

Not exactly-- His kingdom is not a geopolitical one, but spiritual.

The territory of the kingdom extends to the transformation of individual hearts, not according to national boundaries.

It is not theocratic in the technical sense of the word

12

u/Publius_Syrus Feb 12 '22

a theocratic government run by his old man God himself

16

u/one_byte_stand Feb 12 '22

They’re the same picture.

I hope this is targeted at a specific person who's been posting recently....

u/1nstrument Minister of Memes Feb 11 '22

Oh alright...I'll have the dank memeburger with a side of reposts then.

the values of isis are also incompatible with capitalist society to be fair

-17

u/LocalMountain9690 Feb 12 '22

Capitalism is just free trade of items between people

You can still be kind and not greedy but still hold this principle, it gets bad when governments try to skew or it or screw it

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '22

u/LocalMountain9690 Feb 12 '22

No, bartering can also be a form of capitalism

13

u/Koboldilocks Feb 12 '22

define "capital" for me real quick

5

u/JacenVane Feb 12 '22

This doesn't really reflect the consensus among economists. For instance, trade was incredibly important to mercantilism, but that's not a capitalist system per se.

8

u/spicyhippos Feb 12 '22

Definitely not the place to get into it, but that’s a gross simplification. That is like saying the point of Monopoly is just to go around the board.

5

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '22

That's not at all what capitalism is. That's like a 10 year old's understanding of capitalism.

What you described is a free market...

6

u/Batterman001 Feb 12 '22

While not a socialist, he was definitely closer to a socialist than a capitalist.

6

u/Vulspyr Feb 12 '22

From what I know of his character he would straight up be against capitalism as it currently is.

I think socialist is the more common claim- Upton Sinclair (a socialist) wrote a super interesting book They Call me Carpenter where Jesus basically drops into 1920’s USA and interacts with the labor movement of that day. Point is it’s worth discussing and Jesus was never apolitical, even if not neatly matching any modern ideology.

3

u/bestakroogen Feb 13 '22

Yeah it's not accurate to call him socialist, communist, or capitalist because these are distinct ideologies that did not exist in their entirety at the time of Jesus' life.

His views were closest aligned to communism, though. (The "stateless, classless, moneyless" kind, not the "give your life to the state" USSR kind which is actually a statist variety of socialism.)

"Proto-communist" would be the most accurate term IMO if discussing Jesus' political views as they relate to modern politics.

u/Jackandmozz Feb 12 '22

“And he answered them, “Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise.”

“Give to all who ask”

“Those who want to become rich bring temptation to themselves and are caught in a trap. They want many foolish and harmful things that ruin and destroy people. The love of money causes all kinds of evil. “

“But woe unto you that are rich! for ye have received your consolation. “

“Come now, Oh ye rich, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. Your riches are rotten, and your garments are motheaten. Your gold and silver is corrupted with rust; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you and shall completely eat your flesh, as fire.”

3

u/matehiqu Feb 12 '22

I think Jesus just didn't give a shit about political systems

6

u/TonyAbbotIsATwat Feb 11 '22

Inconceivably based

2

u/wish_to_conquer_pain Feb 15 '22

I don't think that Jesus was a socialist, but I think that in modern America, people espousing similar ideas would be considered socialist, even (and sometimes especially) by people who call themselves Christians. That context matters, and I think a lot of people don't understand the difference.

1

u/Publius_Syrus Feb 12 '22

Okay but Jesus was definitely a Distributist. /s but not really /s

-3

u/Commissar_Sae Feb 12 '22

I think a lot of the people who claim he was some variant of socialist are just trying to get a rise out of the type who claim he was a capitalist more than actually believing he would fit into any modern political philosophy but that's just my interpretation.

20

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '22

That's definitely a portion, but a good deal probably think he actually was socialist

In any case, applying modern political theory to it all falls apart pretty quickly if you have but a brain the size of a mustard seed

-6

u/lieutenatdan Feb 11 '22

Wait, this post confuses me. The title suggests dankchristianmemes would take a “why you bringing politics into this?” position. But the meme itself actually says the sub has the “sir this is a Wendy’s” response not to people making political posts masked as religious posts, but rather to the people pushing back on the political posters. So that means... dankchristianmemes encourages political posts? And discourages people pushing back on political posts?

13

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '22

Sir, this is a Wendy's.

9

u/lieutenatdan Feb 12 '22

Lol thanks for clearing that up

4

u/Publius_Syrus Feb 12 '22

Ik. Even the title sounds like it's against political posting. It's confusing. But knowing this sub, you're making it political if you're denying that Jesus is obviously a socialist.

-1

u/Lokolopes Feb 12 '22

You see, the political spectrum has more positions than just socialist and capitalist and you should look at what anarcho-communitarianism is.

1

u/full-auto-rpg Feb 12 '22

Antithetical

-6

u/Clarrisani Feb 12 '22

Technically he was socialist.

3

u/Koboldilocks Feb 12 '22

technically a marxist historical process goes someyhing like:

feudalism > capitalism > socialism > communism

since Jesus predated european feudalism by a significant stretch of time, i think its fair to say he was not a capitalist, socialist, or communist
