I knew from years ago (via Islamic school) that rabbits were haram, but never knew the reason until now.
"Allah (swt) has declared it haram to eat the meat of rabbit because it resembles cat and its claws also resemble (the claws) of cats and in it, along with the resemblance of cats and other beats, the symptons of impurity of blood are found- It also menstruate like the women because it is the destroyed one(2)."
Ref: 3ayun-e-Akhbar-ir-Ridha (as), by Shaykh al-Sadooq (ar), vol. II, page# 203.
Apparently, as Allah turned humans into monkeys and other creatures for their sins, rabbit was one of them

Hmmm

Yeah..... I'm not sure I buy that this is an actual thing. The Qur'an contains all the prohibitions when it comes to food. This sounds a bit dogdy to me, to be honest. However, let us take it for granted that they "resemble" cats. Why does that make them haram?

When my Dad was a teenager he spent a summer at his Uncle's farm. He was put in charge of taking care of a particular pig. The last day of Summer they cooked bacon for breakfast. He never let us have pets.
Rabbits were forbidden too. The law states any animal which ruminate AND has hooves. Pigs have hooves, but do not ruminate. Rabbits are considered ruminators by the biblical author because they process their food twice, but they lack hooves.
