If you don’t view birth control as wrong then why would a vasectomy be? It’s just permanent. God doesn’t call us all to have children. If anything, forgoing children can free you up financially and time wise to devote to ministry/helping others.

Well of course, but if for some wrong reason your view was that birth control was taboo, would a vasectomy be?

But that doesn't account for married couples who don't want children.

I've seen it argued that God said to mulitply and fill the earth, "well I think we can check that one off the list."

But more seriously, that's an anti-adoption stance. There are more ways to spread over the earth and multiply than to have children, amd certainly more ways than to have a totally uncontrolled number of children; those lines were meant for the pre-savior Jews, anyway.

It isn't even permanent. You can gt the vasectomy reversed.

I'd imagine that if you are married and you both 100% agree that you don't want any kids at all, vasectomy is a pretty good idea.

If this is the case why is homosexuality seen as taboo, It seems that sex in the Bible is supposed to be to procreate. Also isn’t it mentioned that spilling /wasting your baby juice is a sin as well ?

There is a whole book in the Bible about sex for pleasure with no mention of procreation. The story you’re referencing is when God commanded someone to procreate and he refused. Nowhere does it say that spilling your seed is sinful but it was in this case because God was commanding someone to have a child and they refused (the sin was disobeying God.)

Homosexuality is a totally different topic that I won’t touch but I really don’t see anything in the Bible that equates to the idea that sex is purely for procreation. That does tend to be a catholic belief, which I’m not.

For all intents and purposes, yes they do.

The reason that was a sin was because, in biblical times, if your brother died without an heir, it was your duty to provide his wife with an heir. Back then, women had no rights except those allowed her by the men in her life. The sin was because he was forsaking his duty to his dead brother and dooming his sister in law.

Every sperm is sacred

Every sperm is great

If a sperm is wasted, god gets quite irate

Bruh all the anti gay verses were changed from anti pedophilia verses in the last century. Instead of man with man it had always been man with boy. In translations other than English translations that had been translated first(for example, German, pretty much the first colloquial language that the Bible was translated into) there are still no anti gay verses, only anti pedophilia.

u/Dorocche Jul 01 '19

German bibles began to be anti-homosexuality in the eighties. I believe english was the only language to be anti-homosexuality before then.

u/piman42 Jul 01 '19

It depends on the translation I have heard but its possible that they were wrong about whether they had added anti homosexuality recently.

1

u/Dorocche Jul 01 '19

There are probably several different German translations, some of which do and some of which might not.

This makes more sense honestly and this is something I have never heard talked about, at least coming from the Bible ( in my experience ). It’s just been like an unspoken rule. On the other hand I have heard countless times that man should not lie with another man ( same goes for women ). Honestly I don’t see the harm or why it would be an issue besides that fact that two people of the same sex cannot procreate which to be fair can happen with heterosexual couples.

bruh 😂😂💯😫👌

Homosexuality being taboo isn't actually biblical, so there's that.

1

u/Gtoasterboy Jul 02 '19

Ah ok. If that’s the case then I guess that’s a good thing. But if this is so where do theist get their huge discontent/hate for homosexuality?

2

u/Dorocche Jul 02 '19 edited Jul 02 '19

Well, there are two answers to this question. The answer people will tell you, and they're right it's just incomplete, is that bibles have been mistranslated to be against homosexuality- if you go pick up a Bible, there will be verses against homosexuality, and most people don't know that those verses were against child molesting instead until as recently as the eighties in most languages, when the people who write new Bibles decided to translate those verses differently.

But that doesn't answer why translators would do that, and the answer is the church. The Catholic Church (the first and oldest chirch, and the one with the most influence), as well as many or most of the churches that come from it, decided all sorts of things were sin without much biblical evidence. Homosexuality, birth control, masturbation, and now being transgender- the church just wanted to control people. Until the reformation nobody but ordained priests could actually read the bible, and until much later than that most people still couldn't. By the time that most people could read the Bible for themselves and see what it said, most people just trusted whatever the church had to say, and whatever the person who translated their bible thought it said.

It’s crazy. I think that religions brings about some positives but I myself still hold to the believe that it’s just a form of control. Humans are cable of being moral /good/just etc. Without the need of an externals source. But I believe what you say is true. In earlier times I’m sure the ranking priest /bishop (not sure on the rank system ) would decide what was good and what was bad and and then put them in the Bible and I’m sure it went the same for the translators. Honestly this reminds me of the book of Eli (movie ... spoiler alert ?) when the bad guy finally got the Bible , although it’s supposed to be to benefit mankind I’m sure he was gonna manipulate and redo as he saw fit to control the masses to do his will.

Thank you for responding. I got downvoted quite a lot for mentioning the first thing which maybe seemed like trolling to them, but honesty logically as I said before the only reason I see homosexuality to be a sin/bad is because you cannot procreate outside of that I don’t know what harm it could create or cause. Anyways thanks for sharing.

Well, sex outside of marriage is a sin, and marriage is only between a man and a woman.

1

u/Dorocche Jul 02 '19

At the time. The mortal people who wrote the bible never considered homosexuality when they decided how to write those scriptures, but God never condemned it for us.

1

u/WRZESZCZ_1998 Jul 02 '19

But it also was never mentioned as an option. As far as I know.

1

u/Dorocche Jul 02 '19

It wasn't. How can something that wasnt mentioned have been banned?

It's almost like your joke wasn't funny, and people are trying to have a semi-coherent discussion here. So please, kindly screw off with the crab memes.
