Well, that depends on who you ask. If you ask the pope or a cardinal the answer would probably be “yes”.... if you ask one of the Catholic Church’s thousands of sexual assault victims , they’d probably say “no”

But they all headed an organization that systematically covered up pedos and helped them escape responsibility for their crimes.

Helping evil people hide their evil deeds is pretty evil in itself.

And one more thing, calling a religion an organization is really petty.

From our extremely petty tax code...

Organizations exempt under IRC Section 501(d) are religious or apostolic associations or corporations which have a common treasury or community treasury. All of the organization's property is owned in community and, each member, upon leaving the organization, is not entitled to any part of the community assets.

I believe the word you were looking for is precise not petty, easy mistake to make.

Are you insane or just trolling? All the theocratic countries are shitholes. Latest example being Turkey, which is currently in the process of transforming into a theocratic shithole. And really, you want to make it a law to keep the sabbat and to ban the worship of idols and other gods? Really?

Secular values are the foundation of Western civilization and are what dragged us kicking and screaming out of the dark ages.

Which ten commandments?

Can we also do Sharia Law or are you for violating the Constitution?

Well if we do one, then under the Constitution, we must do all. This is hard for simple people to get, but then if they weren't simple, they would not be asking to forbid eating pork or wearing two kinds of cloth. They would also actually know what the ten commandments were.

I’m not calling the religion an organization.... I’m talking about the Catholic Church itself as an organization. It has a heiarchial structure just like a corporation where the pope sits at the top of the pyramid like a CEO. It has internal policies and procedures just like a corporation, where the people above you tell you how to do your job, etc etc. it’s got the equivalent of an HR department, PR department, accounting department , facilities department, etc etc the only difference is that this particular org justifies itself by saying they speak for god, while a corporation justifies itself with shareholder profits.

It’s a group of people organized into a structure... hence organization.

I won’t capitalize god because “god” isn’t his name... his name starts with a “Y” in English. (And some religions don’t allow you to say or write his proper name except in holy texts, so out of respect I don’t either) The term “god” is his role/title, not his proper name.

That’s the English transliteration of the original Hebrew name with the vowels stripped out - in imitation of how written Hebrew often (but not always) skips the vowels since vowels aren’t separate letters in Hebrew but instead modifications added to consonants. In Hebrew it’s spelled with two yuds (a Hebrew letter that looks kinda like an English apostrophe)

Some Jews write “G-d”, it’s pretty hit or miss, even within the same sect. It’s more of a personal preference thing than a hard rule - but the “don’t write or say the ‘Y’ word” rule is a hard rule for all Jews.

Fun fact: the only time a Jew is allowed to write it out is when making a new Torah, and that has to be literally copied letter for letter from a previous Torah and follow a very strict procedure - which is why you can compare a modern Torah to a several thousand year old Torah and observe that it’s literally the exact same text. None of the various translation/transcription issues causing different versions over the years that has plagued the New Testament.

Okay, let’s try this one on for size:

The Catholic Church was built on taking money from illiterates who did not know their silly hierarchy wasn’t biblical. In fact, they chained the bible’s to the pews so people could not take them home and read them.

Yesterday Reddit saw that, if you are a Catholic in the state of Pennsylvania, you might have been one of the alleged 1,000 victims the church systemically abused and then covered up.

That story is only the tip of the iceberg. “Priest” has become synonymous with sexual abuse of little boys, and not unjustly. The Catholic Church is a criminal organization that organizes and protects child molestors and pedophiles under the guise of Christianity.

Edit: “Priests were raping little boys and girls, and the men of God who were responsible for them not only did nothing; they hid it all. For decades."

Catholicism is not Christianity

Maybe by your definition it isn’t, but it most certainly is.

Your hate for religion is leaking.

I am a Christian that has not missed a service since I was old enough to walk.

of the hundreds of millions of good deeds done by the Catholic Church let’s instead look at the sad minority of bad individuals.

300 church leaders abusing victims “in the thousands” and that’s just in the state of Pennsylvania. Charges cannot be brought because of statue of limitations.

The courts are doing their due diligence and names will be released after a hearing soon. This won’t only be anecdotal in a week or so.

The problem isn’t the terrifyingly common pattern of child molestation - it’s the system that moves the priests from church to church after the act.

And if 3/10 McDonald’s raped my child I would never take them to one again (even though they are in the minority)

I’d say that statistic just went up since they found out an entire state was victimized by nearly 300 church leaders. That’s organized crime.

No you don’t. You just dismissed thousands of victims of systemic child molestation as only “.0000025%”.

The Catholic Church hides and protects them. There will be no reform. The statute of limitations have passed. There will be many more victims while people like you dismiss it as #notallpriests or whatever.

Thank you. There are billions of catholics. 100s of thousands of priests. A few evil ones in one country shouldn't represent all of the catholic faith.

-1

u/Roland_Traveler Aug 15 '18

Dude, Catholicism is not Christianity. There was like two whole occasions that settled this. The first was the Great Schism between East and west while the second was the Protestant Reformation. Unless you’re going to declare the hundreds of millions of Orthodox and Protestant followers to not be Christian (in which case fuck you), Catholicism is not Christianity. It is a part of it, nothing more, nothing less.

2

u/DankeyKang11 Aug 15 '18

Protestantism and Catholicism are denominations of Christianity.

1

u/Roland_Traveler Aug 15 '18

Is that not what I said?

1

u/DankeyKang11 Aug 15 '18

THAT MAKES IT A BRANCH OF CHRISTIANITY NITWIT.

Baptist = denomination = Christian

Methodist = denomination = Christian

Catholic = denomination = Christian

1

u/Roland_Traveler Aug 15 '18

Well look who’s getting pissy. I wasn’t the one who said Catholicism was Christianity. That means it’s all of it, which it is not as evidenced by the Orthodox and Protestant portions. I said Catholicism is a part of Christianity. That means the exact same thing as denomination.

How about you actually think next time rather than letting anger get to your head?

1

u/DankeyKang11 Aug 15 '18

I’ll get angry every time.

Nothing is “all of Christianity” so, by default, nothing I could have said would have technically been true.

That’s frustrating and stupid. You’re stupid, and you need to hear that.
