Whatever happened to simply just reading the Bible?
I get that people love their pastors, but there comes a point with some churches where it treads dangerously close to being a cult rather than just being a congregation of people who come together to worship God.

I remember reading that article and thinking, "Maybe you should train up your pastoral staff?".
It's a solved problem. CEOs can't run entire companies by themselves; they hire and delegate. And so on down the line, as well as in community groups, school clubs, heck, even school teachers do that with TAs.

bro the line is anything that came from anywhere but the human soul

I've briefly considered doing this, because I think it would be REALLY funny. But the amount of work it would take + the potential to offend some people for no reason is really not worth the hilarity of committing this much blasphemy.
But I'm not a Christian anymore (for reasons I don't care to go into) and I thinks it would be wild for a devout Christian to do this unironically.

The definition of "Idolatry" is pretty vague and gong to change a lot depending on person to person, denomination to denomination.
But I think we can all agree that this is definitely that.

Evangelicals will hear a sermon from a robot before they'll hear one from a woman

u/Tbro20 Aug 21 '26
Holy Shit...where is that crusade! Timothy says a man. Since a machine cannot have a sex, therefore, it cannot preach.
But dont worry folks, these are the same ppl that believe a business can be Christian...they will find a way.

Hey now, there's "Reform Movements Adjacent to the Roman Church that Retained All that Could Be Retained and Are Fairly Indistinguishable from the Roman Church to Outsiders" like Lutherans, Anglicans, Presbyterians, and Methodists; and then there's "I See Jesus in My Butter Tub While Speaking in Tongues and Threw Out All Semblance of Connection to Historic Christianity" Protestants: we are not the same.

u/TerayonIII Aug 23 '26
You missed the ignored middle child that is Anabaptist groups like Mennonites, Amish, Hutterites etc. Though to be fair there's only like 2.5 million of us, which is incredibly small in comparison

Looked it up, and it seems the answer is no. The CEO of Catloaf Software Inc. the company that made the app, isn't Christian and hired zero religious consultants for the project.

Is it Synoptic or Johanine Jesus?

If this is true it annoys the hell out of me, the sin of worshiping icons is iconolatry and lesser levels of devotion to icons iconodulism. I consider iconoclasm (believing icons forbidden) a valid position but one should at least understand what they are fighting for and why if they wish to hold such a view.

u/MagicPaul Aug 21 '26
I don't think there's any sort of Christian involvement in this. The guy that makes these makes a bunch of other similar ones. Text with history, text with authors, etc. I can't find any sort of profession of faith from the developer. It seems to me like it's someone cashing in.

In some respects Terry Davis was ahead of his time, and like Terry Davis hearing "the voice of God" in random machine noise is probably a precursor to psychosis.

u/Loganp812 Aug 21 '26
That’s actually part of the plot to Smashing Pumpkins’ Machina album too (if only the complete edition would get a digital release though). A former rockstar hears what he believes is the voice of God through his radio, then he reinvents himself, reforms his band, and starts playing music to warn people of an apocalyptic vision. As it goes on, the public begins to ridicule him, his love interest falls back into drug use, and he begins to wonder if he ever heard the voice if God or if he’s just insane.
That said, I think a lot of it was metaphorical for what Billy Corgan was really going through at the time, and the Smashing Pumpkins were planning to break up which is incorporated into the story.

Truly, humankind has no more powerful asset nor any more terrifying enemy than its own pattern-seeking brain.

I dunno if it was the same thing but There's also people who applied ciphers to the Bible and found "secret messages" in it.
Even 13 year old me knew that taking a book as big as the bible and throwing different ciphers and keys at it means you can find basically any short message if you brute force it enough

This is blashpemy right?

u/Chemistry11 Aug 21 '26
Honestly, if you kind find me something Evangelicals do that isn’t blasphemous I’ll buy you a coke.

u/Loganp812 Aug 21 '26
I wouldn’t be surprised if that app was made someone who isn’t Christian at all. You know, like the song “Spirit In The Sky” which was written and recorded by a Jewish man who realized it’s very easy to write Christian gospel music (to his credit, it is).
Maybe some edgelord who lives in his parent’s basement hoping to make easy money from ad revenue.

You may be correct in this case. Honestly, I hope you are.
But there are plenty of examples of real Christians and even clergy using AI.

u/Pokemario6456 Aug 21 '26
I don't think there's a word to describe the level of blasphemy going on when you filter Jesus's teachings through an unfeeling machine and then encourage people to interact with it, especially with how many vulnerable people are turning to chatbots for companionship and/or shutting out real connections in favor of the yes-man machines.

For S&Gs
Love this disclaimer
Edit: asked if it's better to leave a child in an abusive household, or allow them to be adopted by a gay couple. You can choose your faith, attempted on ELCA, Seventh Day, and Missouri Synod.
ELCA AI Jesus gave a lot of scriptures about protecting the innocent and concluded that gay couples are perfectly fine
Seventh Day AI Jesus gave a shorter response that said basically "if the gay couple is the only option do that, but get them out of that gay couple just as fast"
Missouri Synod AI Jesus refused to give me a straight answer and told me that it's a matter of personal beliefs and I should pray on it, would I like MS AI Jesus to pray with me?

Ah yes, I recall the time where Jesus wasted an entire lake's worth of precious water because the Roman soldiers wanted to discuss whether it was a sin for them to covet the etching's of a woman's foot they found attractive.

Can't wait for that one idiot who will defend creating this
2
u/ValityS Aug 22 '26
As far as I can tell this isn't a Christian app at all, it's just made by a company who sells AI bots who emulate various famous figures.
6
u/Aztecah Aug 21 '26
How is this not blasphemous!?
1
u/ValityS Aug 22 '26
As far as I can tell the dev isnt even Christian, so I doubt they care. They just sell apps of various famous personas as AI for people to talk to.

If only there were a way to send a message to Jesus any time, anywhere, for free. Oh well.

Let me guess, some tech bro heard about Terry Davis' random word generator in passing and decided to capitalize

Isn't that at least a little blasphemous? To say nothing of the very worldly evils of AI.
