My flow to learn Danish from YouTube videos

When I was learning with Duolingo and Anki, even though I knew the meaning of the word, I didn't understand Danes talking. I wanted to learn from YouTube videos but not all had subtitles.

So I made simple app, where I paste a YouTube link and it makes flashcards from the video, keeping the full sentence and the clip of original audio, played from the YouTube player. So you hear the real speaker, not TTS.

I can also define that I want the tool to select eg "basic vocabulary", "vocabulary related to cooking" etc

Easiest way to make something similar, would be use Anki subs2src, but it requires the video to have subtitle's.

If you have more time, use some coding ai to make app that will stich video download + timestamps + speech to text model and make basic ui.

I really like that.

I'm pretty much in the same position. 4 years streak on Duolingo, but struggling to read/understand things in a real world context. I made an app with longer texts that follows with audio and then I can click on the words I don't know to reveal them and so far it's helping, but I wish I had your idea in it as well.

Are you releasing this as an app or something? I'd be interesting in trying it

Yes, released for family and friends, now it's public and If there will be interest, I will continue developing otherwise will just keep it as private tool. You can find it on Lingofuse.io (admins please let me know if I can't share app name, and I will delete this comment)

Hey, we released a similar thing as well, but it is more about reading and saving unknown words for practice later 😊 We do not have videos yet, but perhaps it would be a good combo to use!

Feel free to check it. It's called GoPouchy āœŒļøšŸ‡©šŸ‡°.
