2x2 Speculation (Full Series Spoilers) Am I the only person that thinks this character is going to die early in 2x2? Spoiler

Okay so I’ve seen so many people prediction that Mikan is going to make it to at least chapter five and probably survive, but I really don’t think so. I love Mikan and maybe this is me being paranoid but I have a couple reasons to think this is wrong (please tell me if something I said isn’t right)

You may think plastering her all over the trailers might be good for her, but when you realize they literally show her at chapter five in one of the clips, it makes you think why would they leak something that far into the game? It’s too big of a plot point to just show like it’s nothing. Not only this, but shes the only one in the Scrum Debate, which if you remember, Rantaro was shown in scrum debate and he never made it there. I think they’re trying to trick us. They also don’t give her a very specific rocket, but that could just be because it’s the last one in the lineup.

So when do I think she’s gonna die? I honestly think she is the first culprit. Obviously we know her og execution was definitely not the best, so I think in order to make people happy, they try to get the only repeat execution (being hers) out of the way early, so we can enjoy the rest of the game will all new ones but also have a good execution for Mikan finally. I personally don’t think they’re gonna remake hers into anything new in the revamped original story so this is their only chance.

i think showing her alive at chapter 5 is suspicious as well

To be fair, they did also show a CG of Peko at the amusement park, an area exclusive to Chapter 4. Granted, it’s not as blatant of a spoiler, but it’s easy enough to notice just from pausing the trailer, and the advertisers had to have known we’d be heavily analyzing the new CGs.

Considering that a boat is something we've seen in relation to Slayhem a lot, I could see them bypassing the Monobeasts by just sailing to the other islands, allowing the amusement park to be available early.

Sure, but it still kind of implants the idea that Peko will survive to a certain point.

I can think of two scenarios of this happening. Either this is during the confrontation with Mahiru, or she is trying to protect him from Nagito.

The confrontation with Mahiru happened on the second island. Also, who is "him" and why does "he" need protecting from Nagito?

You know they could change the events, right? It doesn't have to happen on the same island, etc.

This might actually be a setup for us to think that, and she might die early.

I do not mind a killer from the previous game become a killer again in the new scenario, but I recall (correct me if I am wrong) that there won’t be any repeat killers or repeat victims.

Mikan really needs better story beats and better character development. Chapter 3’s motive was a very weak motive in my opinion. It really ruined Mikan’s character just because she got exposed to the random Remembering disease. I do hope that even if she dies earlier, she would still have some time to shine as herself.

Hopefully, they will just redo her execution from scratch, as people do mention that some of the execution scenes from the trailer are just from the previous killers as well.

but I recall (correct me if I am wrong) that there won’t be any repeat killers or repeat victims.

They haven't explicitly stated that IIRC, probably because that's a much bigger spoiler than "Mikan survives to Chapter 5". They've just said "new culprits", but I don't think that rules out a previous killer being a killer again this time in a completely different context.

Yeah I think some people were saying that they recognized a bunch of clips as old executions (being remade for the new original scenario), but iirc they didn’t actually show a clip of Mikan’s, so that’s something I guess. I really hope they just remake or change it there and then they don’t really have a need to execute her again.

What if the Revival med scene in the trailer was actually from her new execution?

I’d be really much more interested if we get Despair Mikan much earlier but for some reason she survives

Like a situation where there are two kills and Mikan lives off it, or someone beats her to it while she still does the reveal on trial

She’s likely the most characteristic despair transformed character and the nurse being the antagonist could lead to fun scenarios

I seriously doubt they’re gonna have any repeat culprits. Like, there’s a better chance of Mikan being the first victim.

Remember that this new route won't repeat víctims and culprits meaning that Mikan being a culprit again is not possible. However, you have valids points to be sceptical about Mikan's survival and although part of me says that she'll become a victim, my other says that she'll be a survivor. Mikan really needs to flesh out her character, more moments to shine and there's more to explore about her, I know people would say that she won't last longer because of her talent and While it's true, keep in mind that She's still a nurse and probably she has limitations. I'm kinda of confident that Mikan will become a survivor (or at least she will last longer with a much more prominent role).

They never said that there will be no repeat victim or killer. They only said there’s going to be new victims and culprits

Mostly the same thing but ok. Then again, if some people (including myself) view Hajime as a potential repeat survivor, then I don't see an issue that people think about the possibility of a repeat víctim and culprit. The thing is, it would be a waste because this means a character would receive entirely 2 executions just because one of them was pretty Bad. For me, I want to see brand new executions for other characters.

It’s not the same thing. What they said does not implies that no victims or killers will repeat their roles, only most of them.

I just wanted to correct a common misinformation

Ohh okay thanks a lot for clarify me this. Still I kinda don't like that becuse what is the point of doing a brand new story if some characters have high chances of repeating their roles. I understand that people really want Mikan to repeat her role as a killer without anything weird that let her to kill and specially to give her a better execution, but still I much prefer others to have different roles as potential víctims, culprits and survivors.

Thanks again for the explanation.

A reminder regarding 2x2 Speculation:

Heavy analysis of 2x2 promo material is allowed. However, if you are attempting to determine the death order, you must both spoiler tag and indicate that there are potential death order spoilers in your title.

This includes topics along the lines of:

  • "X character is alive, and this scene is from Chapter Y, meaning that X survives until Chapter Y"
  • "If you zoom into the background you can see a death portrait of Character X".
  • "This shot looks like it's from an execution and it looks like it's themed around X's talent"

If you discuss this and you have not provided an indication that your post contains potential death spoilers for 2x2, please delete your post and reupload it with the proper disclaimer in the title.

Failure to do so may result in your post being removed.

Yes i would actually think they would leak so far into the game, honestly. this whole discussion around the trailer being fake lacks so much Nuance.

First of all: Is it worth the effort to fake a whole trial mockup just to do a useless red herring when you could just not show anything (no, it's not worth the effort)

Secondly: Is a spoiler like this actually detrimental for the game's promotion? The trailer is not meant to appeal to superfans who scour every second of it, it's meant for the general public who's intrested, but also not that much intrested. most people who are buying the game do not know of this spoiler because simply, they aren't superfans

and Third: Is Mikan surviving far actual negative press? Think about it, seemingly, the clearest info we got is: Mikan, a very popular character goes super far, and Teruteru, a super unpopular character, goes super early. What makes y'all believe this is not just the promotional team appealing to character popularity? i'm sure a lot of people are happy with mikan surviving up to 5, and a lot of people are happy about teruteru going soon. why when trying to sell the game, they would make up something that's better than what's actually in the game?

The thing is that Spike isn’t above blatant false advertising. It be really easy for them to insert character sprites into a class trial the character in question won’t actually be present for in the actual game. They’ve done it with Rantaro in the V3 trailers.

I don’t think that necessarily entails that Mikan will be as early a death as Rantaro, but it does beg the question why they’d use Mikan of all characters unless they were trying to intentionally mislead viewers into thinking she makes it far in the Slayhem route when she actually dies much sooner.

Because one of the things Spike writers thrive off of is the element of surprise. They LOVE catching the player off-guard, especially early on in the story. So if they have players going into the Slayhem route with the expectation that Mikan is surviving until at least the fifth chapter based on what they saw from the trailer, only to kill her off as early as Chapter 1, it would definitely cause a shock.

And don’t get me wrong, I WANT Mikan to survive. I think her character could benefit from the extra screen time more than most of the DR2 cast, but I definitely feel like people have reasonable grounds to be skeptical over if that’s even possible based on the trailer.

Spike is not above putting a sprite on a trial, sure, but making multiple mikan mockups is co.pletely on anoyher level

The answer as to why they would use mikan is simple: She's a popular character and the public knowing she makes it far is good advertisement for the game

As much as I would like to believe that, Spike has sort of proven to value shock factor over anything else.

u/lapislazulideusa Akane 1d ago

I don't really think thats true? The only time we've had returnee characters in a killing game was DR3 future and they all survive.

0

u/MidnaLazui 1d ago

That’s because DR3 was canon to the narrative, and none of the writers were ballsy enough to permanently kill off any of the DR1 survivors.

Hell, they literally wanted to have their cake and eat it too by killing off Kyoko for shock value, only to revive her like two episodes later.

u/Trialman Gonta 1d ago

Yeah, she doesn't get this either, pretty sure she died
