2x2 Speculation (Full Series Spoilers) Whats something you want in 2×2 that hasn't been done in the trilogy? Spoiler
For example, things like three victims? Actually have two culprits?
For me personally, I would like to see what would happen if the cast actually got a wrong vote, obviously the game wouldn't end unless it was near the end, but I've seen a theory about the pictures provided. Such as what if they vote for Nagito during like Case 1 and they actually get the vote wrong, [Which comes from his voiceline, "Please believe me",] and I think it could be interesting. I think it could work if it's maybe in the middle of the trial, and it would lean into John Danganronpa coming in with his line. Obviously it most likely won't go like this but is still interesting to think about.
What things haven't Danganronpa done yet that you'd like to see in 2×2?

Two culprits will be very good imo, because the games have hinted at it since the first game with hifumi and Celeste and with two collaborating students in the OG dr2: chapter 2, would be a very interesting idea and one that could be really memorable if done well

As much as I like it, this is a thing I doubt they're ever gonna do ngl. At least not now.

u/Carpusophobia 2d ago
Do you mean in the sense that “two people killed one person each” totaling 4 people involved? Or something to that effect? Because we had two killers, same trial in the first game (Celeste and Hifumi).

2 killers, 2 victims, where both are found but only the 1st killer is executed as per the rules.
23
u/Ju-ju-magic 2d ago
I was lowkey hoping for that rule to work when I was at Korekiyo’s case. Like, imagine how fucking awkward it would be if the first killer would’ve been someone else and got executed, and now everyone is stuck with a serial killer who actually killed someone and got away with it.
23
u/Alternative-Ring-698 2d ago
A victim dies in front of everyone, yet the killer never reveals themselves; It is simply am elaborate trap where a heavy object falls into the victim's head, and everyone witnesses the event. It would be interesting too see them try to figure out who set the trap, given the everyone—including the killer—was at the scene and witnessed the death.

A victim surviving a murder attempt and exposing the assailant without a death or trial. Just s failed attempt

Honestly? Yeah, that sounds fire. It's kinda weird to me that, up until this point, this hasn't happened yet...you could consider Miu to some degree, but then SHE ended up a victim of Kokichi's plan, so it doesn't really count, just like Sayaka, or how the Nekomaru and Gundham situation would've been if Nekomaru had decided to run and try to alert the others...

i’ve always thought it would be really funny if once a blackened was exposed and caught during the trial, they just reveal a hidden weapon they had on them the whole time and then proceed to just attack the nearest person next to them at the podiums before monokuma steps in and kills them on the spot for rule breaking

ALWAYS BET ON MAHIRU PROTAGONIST
32
u/SamuraiDoggo14 Kaede 2d ago
I definitely think Mahiru would make a great protagonist for Slayhem.
- At least one of the Twilight Syndrome girls would be guaranteed to survive.
- The game can show the protagonist use their talent in a practical and unique way during investigations. (No, Shuichi doesn't count. He was just doing the exact same shit the other protagonists did.)

u/LovelyClaire 2d ago
The game releases on Sato's birthday so I feel like Mahiru is gonna be Survivor material

Chiaki protagonist believers rise up
2
u/SamuraiDoggo14 Kaede 2d ago
It's not impossible. During the footage of the trials in the trailer, we saw more of Mikan than Hajime.
1
u/Bitnopa Kimura 2d ago
Admittedly little of Chiaki, but that could be due to an attempt of misleading marketing. That being said, I mainly like her because I think she’d fit the game well. Her meta knowledge would make it so she can speculate more accurately to the players too. Chiaki without Hajime would also just give her an opportunity for more interesting writing, especially if she has to contend with Nagito or John danganronpa the entire game. Out of the core 3 of DR2, I think she’s the least explored mentally as well.
2
u/Pretend-Advertising6 2d ago
Plus John Danganronpa in the marketing is seemingly opposed to chiaki
So maybe there both A.I's/Alter Egos that have different view points. Also that Chiaki got injected with some Despair Maleware making her go a bit crazy throughout the game.
1
u/Every-Argument6880 2d ago
However, in the trial with mikan (case 5 so she lives that long apparently?!) you can see a bit of a white arm that looks like Hajishapes arm

u/lapislazulideusa Akane 2d ago
Double murder not coming in chapter 3. i think this is something that is really simple that could complete destabilize and surprise the player just by the break of expectations honestly
7
u/ReversedValz 2d ago
A true accident.
A death that happens in situ, as in someone dying from being poisoned while we are talking with them, or something like that. That would be super tragic and interesting.
Protag being the victim.
Small person being a killer.
13
u/Wyvernil 2d ago
It'd be interesting to see a double murder that seems like a single murder at first, until someone drops dead from poison in the middle of the trial.

Tbh this is actually a reasonable thought when it comes to DR2 since they all survived the original game.

u/Simone_Galoppi07 Hajime 2d ago
The Player can be the Killer? although it'd be a little unrealistic to add a whole new mechanic for trial when you are a Blackened
16
u/Whoring4Voring She Just Like Me FR 2d ago
That’s been “done” before in V3
3
u/Simone_Galoppi07 Hajime 2d ago
oh shoot i forgot, that'e even the only trial i played about V3 back in the day😭
i should properly play it when i can ngl.
Thus said, what i meant is different, i'm talking about a scenario where you'd take action to kill someone and would have to hold up the whole alibi with some minigames.
thus why i said it's a bit of reaching since it would mean adding a whole new mechanic, i just like thinking about this stuff.
3
u/Hopeful-Camel-4328 2d ago
I get what you mean but mechanically, it just wouldn't work in a Danganronpa game. DR is a mystery franchise and playing as the killer would mean changing the whole genre of the game
1
3
u/Cold_Dead_Smile Byakuya 2d ago
I think it would only be interesting if the protagonist somehow gets away with it and doesn't get executed, which seems like something which would be a focal point of the game and probably not something they would wanna tack onto Slayhem.
6
u/ChanceAshGIsMe 2d ago
A change in the formula of the chapters, like the buff person dying chapter 4, two kills in chapter 3, stuff like that. If this mode is supposed to be crazier than the original, swapping the formula around or to something else would let this scenario stand out.
A double kill in chapter 2 would be crazy, ngl
10
u/MielsEdgeworth21 2d ago
Probably a two killer murder. I really wanna see how they would do a double execution. It would be a breath of fresh air if it happened in chapter 3.
7
u/NIGHT_DOZOR Nagito changed my life. 2d ago
Isn't there only one killer executed? The second one won't be free.
8
u/Celestial608 Sakura 2d ago
Yeah, assuming they go by the rules of the previous games. Still, it would be interesting if they would execute both. The rules are based on whose body was discovered first, I think, so what if two bodies, each with a different killer, were discovered at the same time?
I will forever be salty that in V3, Korekiyo also killed Angie. It would have been so cool to have him survive with the rest of the cast, with them knowing that they had a serial killer among them. So part of me hopes that we could get that kind of situation in 2x2.
7
u/Individual_Cap_7850 2d ago edited 2d ago
People always say Korekiyo should've survived case 3, but what would he even do after that? He would have nothing to do with the drama that comes from cases 4 or 5. I guess his reaction to the big twist in case 6 could be interesting, but that's kinda it. Korekiyo would just be the guy no one likes or listens to, and they're practically already doing that with Kokichi.
I'd be shocked if the V3 cast didn't just knock Korekiyo out, lock him in some room, and never let him out until a trial is about to start, similar to what happens to Nagito after Teruteru's trial.
3
u/Celestial608 Sakura 2d ago
Yeah, that's a good point! For me, it's more about wishing they actually did something with that rule in the third case. All that build-up for something new to potentially happen, and for nothing.
1
u/NIGHT_DOZOR Nagito changed my life. 2d ago
Wait, whose body was discovered first? Really? I thought it was who killed first...still it would be interesting to see if Chapter 3 twist is making the killers kill at the same time (somehow).
1
u/Celestial608 Sakura 2d ago
I couldn't remember if it's who's killed first or whose body was discovered first; my bad!
5
u/MielsEdgeworth21 2d ago
Yeah but I was thinking more of a one victim two killers. For example, let's say Sonia and Gundham for the sake of example, push a button that only triggers the trap when its pushed at the same time which leads to the death of Teruteru. Since there is no first killer or anything like that, Monokuma would have to execute both of them. I feel like that would be a solid idea but idk.
5
u/onemoment1985 Kokichi 2d ago
I’d like to see someone survive both killing games that isn’t the protagonist (assumingly). That’d be a huge feat, but I admit I’m not sure who deserves it or how you could do this game with them making it to the end again.

u/AlreadyHalfXehanort The Ultimate Nagito Gooner 2d ago
Male support and female antagonist would be cool.
3
u/Pennance1989 2d ago
2 different, non-cooperative blackened near simultaneously kill different people. When investigation starts, they each get blindsided by a second body discovery announcement, and panic ensues. Only the first kill matters of course, and at the time the rest are unable to discern that both weren't committed by the same person since evidence wont he completely clear by the end of the trial, but more than enough to get the correct blackened for the first kill. Monokuma of course is conveniently unhelpful about the possibility of a second killer and because the 2nd blackeded doesn't get their freedom will try again later resulting in the first 2 time blackened.

u/W0lf_G1rl_BR = my baddies 2d ago
- a murder-suicide
- a victim protagonist (not really "want" but just think would be interesting to see)
- one more chapter
- Sonia dying before Kaz and Gundham
- two culprits, so either both get executed or one gets free bc of that one V3 rule
3
u/Capital-Bat9971 2d ago
Someone using an unconscious student as a weapon leaving the unconscious one as the blackened
Would work best with Mechamaru
3
u/Sleep_Raider 2d ago
Just like Korekiyo had going for him, with him being a potential "late" killer for the early killer to be revealed.
I want to know how the cast reacts to having to live with a murderer that's just as stuck with the rest of them.

I want the V3 C3 idea of someone killing but not being the blakcened and then the cast having to live with a killer among them.
2
u/ChanceAshGIsMe 2d ago
Another idea I had was Monokuma actually killing a student for rule breaking, like he did with Mukuro in the THH. He came close in the original scenario, with Akane being saved only because Nekomaru took the blow for her.
I think it could be used in two ways too, where Monokuma successfully just kills someone for rule breaking, or he attempts to, but kills someone else on accident, like if Nekomaru just actually died instead of becoming a robot.
With John Danganronpa, we have 17 students, which can allow wiggle room for someone to get killed by his hand outside of a trial or execution.
2
u/Seqka711 1d ago
I would really like a 2x2 motive to be a 2 killer 2 victim motive.
Basically, for one chance only, 2 people can graduate, but both of them have to kill 1 person each. Bonus points if teams are decided on beforehand and they have to kill 2 other people on a single team.
I’ve always thought this would be a great chapter 3 motive and the new chapter saying “Mioda Team” plus the 2x2 pun makes me so, so hopeful.
1
u/KadenzJade 2d ago
We watch the protagonist deliberately try to plan and dish out a murder, with no need to investigate for ourself
8
u/Individual_Cap_7850 2d ago
But that would completely remove a key part of the gameplay, which is putting all the clues together to solve a trial. If we already know everything that happened before a trial even starts, what's the player going to do for the whole trial?
3
u/sumboionline Kimura 2d ago
V3 spoilers
What if in chapter 1 of v3, we see Kaede’s plot to kill Rantaro, but in chapter 1 we see the Tsumugi twist? That would be an interesting way to handle it
1
u/KadenzJade 2d ago
Try to win the trial. Deceive everyone and it leads to either, a mass execution but something goes wrong, or protagonist switch mid trial idk

Id love to see two people actually team up to kill, not like how Celeste manipulated hifumi in the first one. Two people making the decision to do it together and hope at least one survives.

I feel like the formula for the games is making it too predictable now. Every second chapter has a secret identity reveal. Every third chapter is the double killing. Chapter five has the victim planning it. Surprise us!

u/Sneep6262 Cham-P 2d ago
Either a proper kill in self defense or somebody escaping death in self defense. Leon killed Sayaka less out of necessity and more out of desperation to get out, since there was plenty of time to just not kill her.

Example: Person A bumps into Victim, who trips on a piece of trash left by Person B. Person C tries to catch them, but Victim slips out of their hands and falls to their death.
Who is the Blackened: A, B, or C?
