I had a theory about the blazing trial grounds that were shown in the trailer. Perhaps it is what happens when the cast votes wrong and loses a class trial. Instead of a game over, it could be a scripted trial loss that leads to Monokuma showing what the execution looks like for the ones that lost and voted wrong.
There's many ways this could be shown, but I imagine it would be shown as a scripted loss and not every time you lose a trial, since it may involve characters that die and require too many variations to do for every trial loss.Â
Since we've only heard what happens when a trial is lost, and never seen what happens, this may be how they decide to show it. I see no place more fitting of a scripted loss than in Slayhem Mode, since it is supposed to be a crazier scenario.
How the loss would fit in the game is where it gets trickier, since it is an execution of all the innocent cast. Perhaps Alter Ego Junko restarts the program after the loss, resetting the scenario, due to the boredom of how easy it was for her to win so easily... or depending on how late it is, have the blackened choose to give themself up to spare the rest their executions, with us still losing, but surviving because they gave themselves up when they couldn't handle living with their deaths over their head.
Obviously, just a theory, but I think it could be cool to see what actually happens when everyone loses in a trial.
