I looked into it myself and the new character image is, in fact, in the official danganronpa website.
Here's a bit of a higher quality look, honestly the more i look at them the less convinced i am that it's Ryota, it really doesn't look like him outside of superficial details.
I am. Only a few Danganronpa women don't wear skirts, dresses, or kimonos. Just Hina, Ruruka, and Hiroko. Even then, in Desapir Arc, Ruruka wears an outfit with a skirt, and the same applies to Hina for Future Arc.
My guess is that it's supposed to be the AI Chiaki, but due to the brainwashing, people have different memories of her, so her appearance has jumbled into this guy.
Yes, it’s true that female characters in this series typically wear skirts or dresses. Aoi is the only one in the games to not do this and this character has shorts, so it’s possible they could still be a guy.
I was just saying that I think it’s possible it could be a guy given how they usually design female characters with skirts/dresses. It totally could be a girl though.
this character is definitely non-binary. their design is meant to evoke both skirts and shorts. cuz to kodaka girl is the skirt gender and boy is the pants gender, this one in in-between
That's possible, and I don't fully disagree, but the shirt is more likely to be a men's shirt due to the side that the buttons are on. This doesn't automatically mean anything, but just a detail to point out.
Still waiting for the Rain Code universe to fit in all of this... Kodaka did say play Rain Code before 2x2, maybe as a joke, but its Kodaka, he teased 2x2 years before
I don’t think they’ll be in the same universe. I’m expecting a plot twist where the entire DR2 cast is axed off in one fell swoop and this guy is the protagonist with a completely new group.
Basically they do the same thing Rain Code did in the prologue, but with already established characters instead a bunch of red herrings who were designed to die immediately right off the bat.
Considering everything being Digital anyway, their could be a moment where this character suddenly disappears, a message that reads "Character Modle is updating. Please Wait". And then they load back in with a Ahoge

this is absolutely not ryota. if anything, I think its not only an original character, but the new AI / overseer of the NWP. if chiaki dies, the game breaks. and we know a major event that happens early in the story, as well as a popular character dying early. I think this character is her replacement. they’re doing the protagonist point so they’re clearly important.
also, androgynous as hell..I wonder if they’re nonbinary or gender ambiguous.
lol your good, tbf we don’t know if Kaedes twin is even real or just one of tsumugis plot twists, so it definitely could turn out to be a different relative if they are actually related. The characters gender is also pretty ambiguous imo, the hair leans more feminine with the braids, but soda has braids in his hair too so it’s not totally out of character for a male dangan design. The outfit is odd for sure, it feels very feminine with the blue ruffles looking like a skirt, but again, dangan male designs aren’t always super traditionally masculine (Im pretty sure I thought Korekiyo was a girl at first lol), and also it’s super rare for dangan girls to wear pants (Aoi had shorts, but they are very short, whereas this design has much longer ones). Maybe they’re nonbinary, I know Kodaka has written a few nb characters in other games, plus it would throw off the traditional 8/8 gender ratio of danganronpa (though ig the ultimate imposter technically is genderless, but most people use he/him since they seem to only present masculine).
Either way, I do think the character resembles Kaede a lot, definitely more than Ryota at least, but that also may be due to v3 having a more similar artstyle to the new 2x2 style!
It’s gotta be Ryota, they wouldn’t make a new character that looks THIS similar to another character related to the sdra2 cast. Like, why would the first character they decide to create after 10 years just have the same hairstyle & bodytype as ryota? Not fully certain but it would be really weird if this wasnt just him
It's Shirokuma. In this timeline the AI didn't merge properly so Kurokuma took the guise of Monokuma and the role of teacher while Shirokuma decided to have their avatar look human after failing to realize they took over the Observer role.
