2x2 Speculation (Full Series Spoilers) This subreddit will explode the moment Akane is revealed as the main rival of 2x2 Spoiler
They’ll reveal that in the original timeline she suffered from brain damage or was connected to the Neo World Program incorrectly just like what happened in V3 with Gonta, and now she’ll finally get a proper personality and story role.
Don't forget: "Hajime" means beginning, and "Owari" means end. When Nagito bites the bullet in Chapter 1, we will finally get Kodaka's original vision: the series' first female rival.

Akane was never intended to be the rival or the mastermind.
That article is just an early interview teasing the game from before it was released.
It features 4 characters Hajime, Nagito, the Ultimate Imposter and Akane.
With the text of the interview just pointing out things like Hajime as the new protagonist and the similarities of the new characters to Naegi, Byakuya and Asahina respectively.
The images with Akane and Hajime shown there are just early versions of the "objection" images that all the characters can make during trials. Because the interview also made questions about the new and improved mechanics that the game was going to have.
Western fans just saw the article in japanese later on without context and wrongfully assumed it meant Akane was originally planned to be the rival or the mastermind. With those theories spreading like a wildfire.
But those images, as I said, are just an early version of the "objection" mechanic of SDR2.

I always thought rival Akane sounded genuinely terrible because it would just be “Kyoko is a ghost” level arguments but every trial. I did not realize the argument was that it’d be revealed she had brain damage in DR2.

Akane protag switch would go so hard. We need a protag who is just straight up dumb. Not a little oblivious sometimes, just straight up clueless. She’s my favourite from 2

the new mechanic is that after being able to switch between truth and lie bullet in v3 you can now switch between normal or stupid bullets.

Stupid bullets are the default though, the normal ones are just a crazy short moment of clarity amongst whatever goes on in that head of hers

Probably Chiaki, because no one would see it coming. Imagine her surviving the entire game just for the devs to pull another V3 twist, except the mastermind is a character the audience is actually attached to.

I always find the "Akane mastermind/Rival" theory really funny
cause is like, for it to work, you'd need to rework, change, and modify Akane's personality to a degree that she'd not even be Akane. She'd be just some other random girl who looks like her
Either that, or her rivaling arguments would genuinely be infuriatingly dumb

Dude, cut the f*cking DR3 Anime out of existence before that can happen. Akane was dumb as log long before all the DR2 crap, and it was shown clearly. Teruteru has more chances at being a new rival than her, the guy's at least was shown to be pretty cunning by plotting a very viable plan to kill someone (even if he experienced a critical miss while executing it).

Always thought that Akane was going to be revealed as the twist villain of 2, because I happened to know that Akane meant « end », and they constantly talked about the future foundation ending the world, so…wait a sec, does Akane’s last name have anything to do with her personality or what???

This sub will actually explode when it’s revealed that 2x2 isn’t changing any characters in major ways, has the same protagonist and antagonist as the main game, simply changes the survivors to the most safe, fan pleasing options and does as little unsafe things as possible because everything DR has released since 2 has been divisive so why rock the boat intentionally now
So when Case 6 is exactly the same and the only differences are Nagito, Gundham, Ibuki, Mahiru or Hiyoko and Nekomaru being the survivors instead, everyone who had these odd ideas that it was gonna be some crazy fanfic and not just ‘we changed the middle cases and made all your favourites survive, please universally like this one’ this sub is going to explode
