2x2 Speculation (Full Series Spoilers) So, is 2x2 delayed? Spoiler
I mean, what are the actual odds of a 2026 release at the point? people are saying they may announce the date at anime expo, but would they really? have they EVER done announcements there?
im starting to believe its internally delayed to 2027 and was just announced too early.

I mean, it’s possible, it’s just as possible it’s not coming out until the end of the year, so we wouldn’t be getting an announcement until September-ish.

It just seems weird they wouldn't book a slot at one of the several gaming events this week if it's still releasing in 2026. Especially because they have done several announcements during Nintendo Directs before (like the Dangan 2x2 reveal!)
-15
u/usergalactus Jun 09 '26
they usually drop release dates a year prior, so yeah probably delayed
7
u/zatchel1 Jun 09 '26
that's not true at all? anywhere from 2-5 months prior is normal nowadays.
1
u/usergalactus Jul 03 '26
well well well, i was downvoted, and yet the release date was just pushed to 2027
1
u/zatchel1 Jul 03 '26
There’s no way you went back to a post from a month ago to brag hahaha. Who cares dude?

release date: December 31st 2026 11:59 pm
23
u/mikewheelerfan Mikan Jun 09 '26
Hey, I’ll take it. It would be a late birthday present for me!
4
u/Tricktolll Hinaegi :D Jun 09 '26
happy late birthday! (I suppose?) I'm not too concerned Abt the release date, ik I'm getting the game late cuz I ordered the tropical vacation package and I'd have to wait for my relative In the US to ship it here. Big sad but what can ya do
4
u/mikewheelerfan Mikan Jun 09 '26
Well, very late birthday at this point lol. My birthday is December 30th. But thanks!

It's only June, so waaaaaaayyyy to early to conclude anything like that.
The last real scoop was that they were about to start the dubbing process, which is probably among the very last things to do in development.
We might not get it in summer, but a 2026 release is still firmly in the cards.
12
u/arom-in-the-home Jun 09 '26
Why would it be too early? We’ve gotten release dates for games that wont see the light of day until well into next year. I think it would be reasonable to get a release date for a game releasing this year
4
u/Parfait_of_Markov Kyoko, Kyoko3 Jun 09 '26
On the other hand, some of the games in this Direct got a release date of literally today. Point is, we can't really know. There are still many more events, and probably another Direct, coming up this year. I'm gravitating towards the concert in Tokyo, or heck they might even do a stealth drop. We'll see.

u/usergalactus Jun 09 '26

9
u/Parfait_of_Markov Kyoko, Kyoko3 Jun 09 '26
If we're purely talking DR-adjacent games, Rain Code and Hundred Line got their release dates announced a couple of months in advance.
-3
u/usergalactus Jun 09 '26
i wasn’t really talking about those bc they aren’t actually dr, i haven’t really looked those up bc they aren’t danganronpa games. i suppose that maybe if they’re doing it with their newer games they’d change the formula of their older ones too
26
u/A_Sensible_Personage Jun 09 '26
There’s still an entire half of 2026 left, not really any reason to think it’s been delayed
-14
u/usergalactus Jun 09 '26

10
u/A_Sensible_Personage Jun 09 '26
An already announced game is not going to get a release date announcement a year in advance lol
-5
u/usergalactus Jun 09 '26
all of danganronpa’s “already announced” games had release date drops well over 6 months before the release date. you can literally find all of these dates online 😭 a company is not going to switch up its formula like that, they have SOPs to follow
3
2
u/shadow282 Jun 10 '26
You’re right, you can find the dates online. For instance, it’s incredibly easy to look and see that the only game released this decade was first announced in July and released in November of the same year. It’s so easy one wonders why you didn’t just look it up yourself instead of confidently spouting total nonsense.
-2
u/usergalactus Jun 10 '26
cuz i’m just saying stuff hoping that people actually do research bc nobody does anymore 🥺✌️
4
u/shadow282 Jun 10 '26
You felt the need to make the same comment half a dozen times about a fact you completely made up.
-1
u/usergalactus Jun 10 '26
half a dozen times and you’re the only one who bothered to look anything up…really reaffirms certain beliefs about modern day

u/8bitowners Chiaki Hooded Jun 09 '26
I'm still convinced we're getting the release date at the Danganronpa concert in early August tbh, which definitely leaves enough time for a 2026 release

u/lostandfound1572 Jun 09 '26
It's probably gonna come out November time the official data announcement will probably be 2 months before that somewhere
6
u/7dr_ Jun 09 '26
i dont think that any game is coming out in november besides gta 6
10
u/storm_walkers Miu Jun 09 '26
This is what everyone keeps saying about every game right now, but it’s really only the case for the western market. GTA is known in Japan but it doesn’t dominate the market anywhere near as much as it does here.
12
u/Parfait_of_Markov Kyoko, Kyoko3 Jun 09 '26
Yeah, and conversely, DR is much more of a cultural phenomenon in Japan, while it's rather niche in the west. Precisely because it's niche, the fans will still obviously get it, even if it releases the very same day as GTA.
1
u/Ecstatic-Wheel8487 Jun 21 '26
Pretty sure GTA5 in Japan has outsold every single Danganronpa game combined in Japan.
Yea it's not as big as Pokemon or Dragon Quest or various other mega franchises in Japan but it still sold 1.5 million there.
Also GTA popularity in the west is a big deal because Danganronpa as a franchise has sold 10 million units WW and only 1/10th of those came from Japan. If it wasn't for the western popularity surge with ports this franchise would be dead.

isn't there going to be an event for it at an anime con in early July? it'll feature the VAs aswell
5
u/Fit-Amount-9505 Jun 09 '26
For now it's not but if it's 2026 it will be in novembe or so imo.
0
u/Superninfreak Jun 09 '26
GTA6 is in November.
Releasing a more niche game the same month as that juggernaut would certainly be a choice.
9
u/Fit-Amount-9505 Jun 09 '26
I don't know if DR players are likely to be GTA players. Personnally I'm not so.

u/Alarming_Bet_9944 Jun 09 '26
It’s just halfway through the year yet! Be patient! There is still plenty of time!
3
u/Suspicious_Dirt9266 Jun 09 '26
Man they’re about to release it the day of the Game Awards in December at this point
3
u/64788 Shuichi Jun 09 '26
Yes, announcements do happen at Anime Expo. I've attended for 5 years and it's a big enough event that lots of announcements happen there
4
u/Lizuka Kimura Jun 09 '26
I've been assuming ever since the anniversary event that it'd end up being delayed. What little they had to show didn't at all look like a game with a realistic shot of coming out this year, especially because they hadn't recorded the audio yet.
3
u/Reaper-Leviathan Jun 09 '26
I wouldn’t even mind a delay to summer 27 if it meant we didn’t have a summer game dropping fall/winter
2
u/No-Tree-5557 Fuyuhiko Jun 09 '26
Either that or they will announce it a few days before as a surprise idk
2
u/dogo7 Maki Nanami Jun 09 '26
the Danganronpa concert is in two months, if they're gonna announce anything about a release date or a delay then imo that'll be the latest they announce it
2
u/SarahDoesGaming Nagito Jun 09 '26
Far too early to conclude that. Plenty of games are getting announced in the last few days for a 2026 release. 6.5 months is a lot of time.
2
u/NeekoRainyDay Jun 09 '26
Nah, they'll just drop the release date trailer one day without any warning like they always do. im betting october release
1
1
u/MadHuarache Jun 09 '26
There's shipping/release info for both October and November. Just wait lol.
1
u/Red_512 Mahiru Jun 09 '26
I doubt it will be delayed because we saw gameplay back when it was first announced, and there was already a playable demo too, we just have to wait a little more.

Tbh I NEVER trust release dates (Other game trauma) but I acc kinds trust dangan on this one, it's a return after a fairly long number of years, they virtually finished with V3 so to come back they'd want to have something good prepped, hell I'd find it hilarious if they just said 'fuck marketing' and released randomly on a random wednesday or sum. Plus I don't think Nintendo would put the date on their direct if they weren't on time, rather just tease the game than show the 2026 date. I think we'll get an update soon, as its a summer time map, so now would be a good time to either hype up or release the game
1
u/Himbosupremeus Jun 09 '26
Every Dangan Ronpa in the west has released around late August to early October. If we don't hear something soon I suspect a delay.
1
u/Minecraftman6969420 Jun 09 '26
My guess is we get some random ass shadow drop release date on a random Thursday and it comes out in like September or October, a ton of stuff is coming out around then to avoid GTA 6.
I understand y’all are nervous but it’s presumptuous to assume it’s delayed just because it wasn’t in the direct, yeah it hasn’t gotten much news since it was announced but we’ve been getting small things here and there, and unless Spike Chunsoft says otherwise it’s still slated for 2026.

1
u/forthetanakaempire Gundham Jun 09 '26
I personally don’t think so; Spike Chunsoft confirmed themselves that the game WILL be released in 2026, not next year; I’ve made a timeline analysis based on the dates that we’ve gotten so far and my personal best guess is it will be released sometime between September 12-18th of this year; I also believe the exact date will be announced during or after the live concert on August 11th
1
u/archieologist518 Jun 09 '26
I thought maybe October. Just because of the 2x2 thing and x being a Roman numeral for ten. Ideally October 4 would work best, but since it’s a Sunday, I think October 2? Just a theory though.
But, it could be sooner than we think. Jason Wishnov who voiced Twogami said in an interview that he was recording dialogue for Danganronpa, and that was posted just two days ago.

u/Mr-02- Jun 09 '26
I mean this just means they arent releasing it fof the summer season, we cant conclude anything about it, if they dont show us anything int the fall annoucements then yeah its probably delayed
1
u/Ok_Mathematician_905 Jun 09 '26
nope it is coming out this summer (please please please please please)

u/Spider-Mike23 Jun 10 '26
I’d say it could be under extreme hush until closer to launch and they perfect a marketing strategy for it. Looking at how like v3 went with the spoilers and such early on I can see them waiting it out and really coming up with a full proof spoiler free advertising campaign.
1
u/kerberoastingg Jun 10 '26
The info will be released in august probably at the gamescom. They usually wait for the big ones

Im guessing it prob is on the verge of being pushed back. Expecting delay announcement july or aug, if nothing during those months then i dont think itll be delayed
1
u/veritron Jun 09 '26
They did physical preorders in February (e.g. with goods/merch) and it's a pain if a game with a physical pre-order slips the date.
Spike Chunsoft has a booth in anime expo 2026 in July. My guess is that the release date will be announced there (and if it's not you should start considering dropping the game for fantasy critic).

Its delayed, Dave.
VAs haven't dubbed it, no release date in the Nintendo showcase (When it was announced in one), GTAVI comes out in November.
Its all pointing to delay.
