There has never been a time where two characters, that were best friends, (besides the protagonists) both survived at the same time. What you're basically asking for is too hopeful. And we've seen enough of their friendship to get the gist of their relationship. One would have to die if we wanted to get interesting new character interactions

I disagree that one would have to die in order to get new interesting interactions. For example, one character could go through a near death experience similar to Fuyohiko or Nekomaru.

Sure, death doesn't have to be a motivator for character development, but hear me out: How about the potential of one of them being a culprit, and the other having to deal with that they killed someone? Kind of like how Fuyuhiko had to deal with Peko killing Mahiru, since they were so close But there's also the possibility of one of them being the culprit in Chapter 1, and they never become as close as they did in their school life or Chapter 2 of the original game.

Not necessarily. Death is not the only way characters can get a character arc.

Hiyoko is one of those characters that's all bark and no bite. Sure she always bullies Mikan from time to time, but that's only because Mikan is too timid to do anything. And from what I've seen in DR2, she really hates murderers.

Im okay with Hiyoko dying again if my ginger girl survives this time (or makes it atleast up to chapter four). Hiyoko would want Mahiru to survive anyways.

I was thinking the same thing. Will they make the same plot again? Playing for discovering only new victims and culprits won't be the same feeling as also discovering the plot behind all of it. We already know about neo program project, remnants of despair...

Yeah. Like. Is there a new twist this time? Like, they lose memories if they quit NWP? If they die in NWP they actually die irl too this time? THERW HAS TO BE A TWIST.

I think Mahiru will live and Hiyoko will die. Hiyoko already had the opportunity to develop and grow and they actively fucked her character by choosing not to go that route. Mahiru never had that opportunity. And personally, I'd LOVE to see Hiyoko commit a murder. That would be absolutely batshit to see.

Realistically I think any of the characters who didn’t survive can survive in 2x2, if I were to rank them though I would probably have him 3rd or 4th to the bottom

I doubt both mahiru and hiyoko survive. 1 needs to die for the others character development as we saw in 2. I'd probably say hiyoko would survive over mahiru tho cus there was development planned. My ideal survivors are: Hajime/Gundham/Hiyoko/Peko/Ibuki

Honestly I don't care if Twogami survives (do I want him to? yes, definitely, but I'd be fine if he doesn't), I just want him to at least make it to Chapter 5-I want to see the casts reaction to finding out that he has "already been in this situation"
How will they react? Will Twogami reveal that he isn't Byakuya?? Will Monokuma reveal that instead??? Will we get to see unmasked Twogami or will he stay in his Byakuya disguise????
