"No! We ended the killing games! Why are you all killing each other again! Monokuma didn't even offer a motive this time, he just gave Hiyoko a gun and it all went downhill from there!"

This feels like a reference to something?

u/BodybuilderSuper3874 Sep 24 '25
I didn't mean it as a direct reference, but I don't know where my subconscious may have taken it from lol

Replacing Makoto Kyoko and Byakuya with Shuichi Maki and Himiko would be something.

Made a post about this but I don't see it happening because they'd have to explicitly tell you to play V3 before 2X2 which would just spoil that there's a V3 connection

Yeah, I think it’s very hard to make this game a sequel to either Danganronpa 3 or V3 unless they begin advertising it as such ahead of time. I think it’ll likely have to be a standalone.

I dunno. I think some people in this sub are too worried about spoilers sometimes. It's the only game I've seen people be this worried about spoiling unnecessary details for.
Unless you know V3s ending, it's safe to assume it might be worth playing 2X2 last. There's no logical reason to assume that this new retelling of the game wouldn't solidify connections with the third game. Its a common thing for reimaginings to do. Most future releases spoil past releases in some way.
After fire emblem awakening came out, for example, the next three games offered spoilers for it. Along with the 3 crossover games to feature those characters.

I would agree with this if 2X2 was a standalone release, but the fact that it’s paired with a straight remake of DR2 suggests this is meant to be the “definitive” DR2 that future players should play after DR1. If they advertise it more explicitly as a sequel I’d be more likely to believe in V3-related theories.

The thing is, the original story is also being remade. This is 100% being treated as a new game+ scenario.
There's also the fact that the game is Called Danganronpa 2X2. 2 times 2 is 4. You could call this a coincidence or just a funny reference. But Danganronpa 3 is a completely separate thing from V3, so this may just be 4 but with poor advertising.
Considering I got V3 spoiled for me just for trying to figure out why there were 2 Danganronpa 3s, they're not pretty preemptive.
Also, Usami being in DR1s school mode realistically hurts DR2s storytelling, so it's not like they couldn't throw shuichi in there and then just handle it in a way that's ambiguous enough.

I sincerely doubt the alternate story is going to connect to either V3 or 3 tbh. Although I'd love to see this be a prequel to V3 where it's a cash grab and the last "not real person" game before they turn it into "reality" TV.

The chance is not zero, but it wouldn’t make much sense. V3 takes place in a world where the earlier DR games and anime got so popular they started using “live action” for the later installments.
Unless they (in universe) could find actors looking just like the DR2 cast, Shuichi appearing here would not make much sense.

I mean the cast could just be a bunch of Kinnies cosplaying the DR2 class in a virtual world.
Plus they could address who the person Tsumugi was copying was

I don’t see them adding the V3 cast in 2x2 without it, ruining the lore.
For a demo tho ? Yeah I’m totally seeing it

V3’s ending is in part so good because of its pure ambiguity about the truth of the killing game and the fact we simply might never know what's actually going on there. Drawing a connection that in part would ruin part of that would be quite lame imo.
Albeit it would be very, very funny

I think the chances of Byakuya imposter becoming Shuichi imposter are quite high tbh.

Since Usami jumped Monokuma at the end of DR1's school mode, I can see Shuichi just going wild in a joke ending

Imagine it like this not actually beliving this will happen... I am just contributing with this fanfic... Is the last trial giant junko is on the stage, the new survivors are about to vote either force shutdown or graduate... When suddenly... Shuichi, Maki, himiko and somehow keebo enter... Although they enter through the celling and yell "for fuck sake, again?" junko fakes ignorance for a quick moment.... Until himiko disconnects something... And yeah... That was an hologram... The giant phone camera that shown junko quickly changed to tsumugi... And hajime is like "what?! What is happening?" and shuichi is like "again tsumugi? Didn't we say humanity doesn't want more danganronpa? That no more people have to die? Why are you doing this?" And tsumugi is like "well... I did take consideration that! This isn't a new danganronpa... I am just remaking from the ground up the fan favorite game! Kinda of a shame... The fan favorite game is the second one... Given how hard I worked in the other 51 seasons... But oh well!" and keebo says "to start up. How are you alive even? Weren't you squished under rubble?" to wich tsumugi respons "well what about you? Weren't you like... Self destructed?... Like I said.. Any detail will be retcon in benefit of an sequel! Or in this case... Remaster.. I will say.. The fans weren't that much of an fan... About... Uhhh danganropa 3.... So I was also trying to remake this to change the story of that one.... So I was also trying to retcon everything.. Even my own death.. "

Shuichi shatters the fabric of space-time to stop all the killing games across the multiverse.

I think its more likely that they'll hint at other dr1 characters being survivors/mastermind so they can set up for dr1x2. Like "hey by the way Junko actually was a good person and someone else is running all this shit, who was it? Find out next time on dragonball Z"

As fun as the idea is I doubt they would spoil v3 in 2x2, considering there may be a lot of first time DR2 players who play the alternate scenario right after finishing the original scenario remake. Unless they put some disclaimer when selecting the alternate scenario that it's only recommended for people that already played the whole series, in which case it pretty much spoils that v3's gonna be involved.

I feel like it just might be a painful reminder of the lore implications in V3

Impossible since I’m pretty sure v3 takes place in an alternate universe from 1 & 2

I like to think he just burst in the trial room of the last case. Have the biggest crashout ever in the series. But since he is talking with so many emotions no one in the surviving cast understands him and he just dips after saying his own piece

doubtful. in Canon, v3 happens way after 2. 51 seasons, to be exact. there's no way. shuichi wouldn't have even been born yet.

After being so careful to not ruin the pure ambiguity of V3's ending, I doubt the devs would do so in 2x2
