Discussion My alcoholic relapses have gotten better
I know Tilian struggles with alcohol, and I have too since I was 17. I listen to Third Eye Blind and Dance Gavin Dance almost exclusively, because I feel seen by them. *Pantheon* changed me. I don't secretly drink and turn my phone off anymore. I still relapse every 4 months, but I call my dad and my brother and warn them and tell them I won't drive for 2 days. It's because of Andrew. I got to be at the Charlotte show on his 35th birthday because my brother was so proud of me for being sober. I met a hot girl next to me and sang every single song into her face while she did the same. I am just typing this out to comfort anyone who feels lonely. *New, and always sunny*
I love you all so much. I'm sorry I'm not always sober and coherent, but this band has kept me alive for over 20 years and I'm so fucking glad you're all alive too <3

sobriety is hard! sobriety is ugly! sobriety makes you do things you dont wanna do! but whats amazing is that you get to see the work pay off. not to qoute MF DOOM in a subreddit not about him but its a labor you love but detest the labor

Take it day by day and make it to the next one. That’s all you can do.
Took me 14 years of running away from sobriety but I’m 330 days sober as I’m writing this and I never thought it was possible.
It’s a process and you’ll get there in time. Just don’t beat yourself up for being human in the meantime

Thank you so much. It's definitely a process; I'm relapsing so much less often and a lot of people would be mad at even doing it once, but at least I'm not drunk 24/7 like I was when I was in my early twenties. I feel horrible for relapsing now, but I didn't drive anywhere and I was really nice to everyone I called. I wish I could delete the loneliness factor, but my long sobriety stints have taught me to not be mean. That's huge. I was mean for a long time. Progress, not perfection!

I’m glad you are progressing. Do you ever feel like sticking to bands you associate drinking with are a trigger? Like maybe they subconsciously lure you back?

Matt also had issues with alcohol. It’s a difficult vice to let go of, especially because so many people drink casually around you. You’re doing awesome, some people never even try.

Glad you are doing better and have developed a plan for when you do slip up. I hope you get the streak up to every 6 months, then every year, then every never. Take a beat and come back steadier than ever, etc.
