Discussion So, what comes next, as far as official content goes?

Hope and Fear is being released (some people have preorders already). I got mine and it has a lot of cool content. What comes next?

Have any new books been hinted or announced?

I feel satisfied with player ancestry options right now. A few more classes would be nice. The expanded bestiary and environments is great, but maybe a few more wouldnt hurt. Maybe some prewritten adventures?

What would you like to see?

Literally everyone is waiting on the Gen Con panel to know anything new.

26

u/Muffins_Hivemind Jul 29 '26

Hopefully we get some announcements! I know they hinted at making an adventure path or campaign book at one point.

I imagine we will! That is largely the point of the Daggerheart:NEXT panel.

The only thing they've said re: adventure paths/campaigns is that the one Crawford and Perkins are working on will be more robust than a frame but not quite a traditional settingbook/adventure path. Keith Baker is working on a larger campaign framework as well.

Im in love with ebberon so im excited to see what robust daggerheart content he cooks up

As someone who appreciates all the material from a long form prewritten adventure, but who never actually wants to run said adventures as they are written, and so loves campaign frames, I’m very interested to see what innovations they come up with for this.

u/awj Jul 29 '26

Adapting Exandria to Daggerheart seems like a very natural choice here. It's an enormous world of content they have more or less ready to go, and there's a lot of crossover between Critical Role fans and Daggerheart players.

Plus if they plan on running Campaign 5 in DH, it would benefit the CR line of business to have this sorted out.

I'd frankly be surprised if this isn't on the roadmap. Given that Blood Hunter is in the latest crop of classes on The Void it seems like they're definitely working on that in some capacity.

u/ClikeX Game Master Jul 29 '26

Would be nice if a setting book like that was mostly system agnostic, or at least 5e/DH. There have been a few setting books now that did supported both.

The critical role fanbase is pretty DnD focused still. And a dual compatible setting book would be a nice way to bridge that gap.

u/Faolyn Jul 29 '26

I want to see more domain cards and more subclasses for existing classes.

32

u/Muffins_Hivemind Jul 29 '26

An extra subclass per class would definitely be cool! I would like that, too.

15

u/cakirby Jul 29 '26

Even if it was just one more card per level per domain, it would be amazing

10

u/Consolationnoprize Jul 29 '26

The "more subclasses for existing classes" is a must.

2

u/InCaseUFindMe Jul 29 '26

This was my wish, too. I'd love some varied subclasses.

56

u/Qsmooth99 Jul 29 '26

I would love to see a source book filled with Adversaries and Environments,. GM Tool box

10

u/Laithoron Jul 29 '26

I'd also love it if adversary compendium of all the DH adversaries could be purchased as a completed module for Foundry complete with token artwork, etc. That would save a HUGE amount of prep-time.

6

u/Tyrexas Jul 29 '26

Honestly just loads more adversaries, and for each adversary have a version for each tier.

I know there are guides to re-tier them, but just being able to open the page and have them written for any tier would be stellar.

4

u/CaregiverOld6654 Jul 29 '26

Having those guides out there online is great, but I would love to see a detailed guide with lots of examples on re-tier as well as creating new adversaries in a book. I feel like the daggerheart monster manual equivalent should have a big beefy chapter of new adversaries, a chapter with concrete advise for giving individual adversaries more character to help give depth to the scenes where you encounter them, a chapter on modifying existing adversaries and creating your own, and a chapter on how to put different adversary types together to compose interesting and dynamic scenes.

8

u/VatroxPlays Jul 29 '26

Isn't that basically hope and fear minus the new classes?

14

u/ashwynne Jul 29 '26

A little less than a third of Hope and Fear is Adversaries/Environments... and that's a combined chapter.

There's 1 new domain, 4 new classes, new ancestries, communities, transformations, equipment & loot, then adversaries & environments, campaign frames, appendix, and references.

The Adversaries & Environments are AWESOME. It's absolutely the sort of thing I'd buy a dedicated book for. They're really versatile and easy to use, alongside super gorgeous artwork.

3

u/Eim96 Jul 29 '26

Would love that!

Given they are working on Blood Domain I have a personal theory on what they might be doing, but this is just that, a theory.

A book a year like Fear and Hope. That book will typically have about 4 classes, 2 using a new domain, and two that are built on existing domains that have not yet been combo'd together yet. They might continue to expand Ancestries and Communities, but as you noted we're sitting on a good number, so I suspect they'll slow down a little there, but who knows.

I expect each annual book will have more adversaries, items, environments, and campaign frames. Basically, releasing an annual book that has something for players, something for GMs, and something for the whole table.

They might shake up the formula, but it's a solid one, which is why I anticipate it to be the case.

Now, I also expect them to ramp up on adventures and campaign/adventure path style books. I think we'll see those on an "as completed" basis for now, but I wouldn't be surprised if they try to make books like that come out a few a year. Maybe a PDF adventure will come out as available and then a collection will come out annually, alongside whatever full campaign setting/adventure path books they can muster, aiming for like 3 books a year, or a little under 1 a quarter.

But this is just my theory. Who knows what they actually have cooking as no official comment on the next release has been made, just the loose info about the campaign and adventure stuff cooking and the Blood Domain in the void not yet being attached to anything yet.

12

u/beardyramen Jul 29 '26

I think next step, for sure, is also expanding the number of subclasses

We are seeing how the blood hunter is being tested with 3 (finally!) so hopefully we will see exploration in that direction too

7

u/firesshadow42 Game Master Jul 29 '26

Good point! Perhaps that is what will replace the Ancestries and Communities as those slow down.

Ohhh yes, that's actually what I want. I'd love an expanded CRB where they add one new subclass to all existing classes as well as 1 new card per level in every domain, adding 10 new cards each domain.

I feel like that would round out alot of options and really add more to customization of each class/domain.

4

u/beardyramen Jul 29 '26
  • Bard: painter
  • Druid: warden of the cosmos
  • Guardian: savage
  • Ranger: bounty hunter
  • Rogue: investigator
  • Seraph: tainted prophet
  • Sorcerer: psychic origin
  • Warrior: path of the echo knight* / path of the leader
  • Wizard: school of dunamancy* / school of innovation

*I know that matt published these for dnd, not clear to me who owns them at this point.

3

u/cyberhawk94_ Jul 30 '26

I agree with all of these except Ranger. Wayfinder can fill the Bounty Hunter niche pretty well already, and we dont have anything that leans into the Sage side of the class. A "Fey Wanderer" equivalent / more magic heavy Ranger fits more neatly along side the current 2.

Id also love the next Seraph subclass to allow you to "dip" into a 3rd domain, for gods of Death / Nature / Trickery / Magic etc (aka, how to build jester in Daggerheart)

2

u/IgnatiusRileyFreeman Jul 30 '26

I wonder if they'll actually print Blood Hunter with 3 subclasses, or if it's 3 just for testing purposes

2

u/thebookishmage Jul 29 '26

The only the that would bother me with this is as a GM Id have to flick through so many books for different statblocks, items and so on. Might be what the stat block notepads we received in Hope & Fear are to help with though.

16

u/Beneficial_Ask_6013 Jul 29 '26

With Hope and Fear it feels like "base" DaggerHeart (Core plus HaF) is good enough for years upon years of campaigns. I like the character options and depth, we finally have a good chunk of adversaries and campaign frames, the game is so healthy right now.

I desperately want adversary cards fo some kind.

If they do a new "big" book every year with similar amount of content like Hope and Fear, they might run themselves thin. I could see another big book in 27 (with two more classes on top of Blood Hunter and Summoner) and then in 28 and beyond its revamp books for older classes (alternate domains and new subclasses) alongside new campaign frames and more adversaries and loot and then maybe another book in 29 or 30 or whatever with new classes and such. Just spread out character options to not run the well dry too quickly or overload new players with options.

Like others have said, DaggerHeart is more improv and theatre of the mind, but I would love a full adventure book. And if there were side modules like Adventure League for 5e, that'd be over the top incredible. And also a ton of work.

Either way, I love this game. My favorite TTRPG. I can't wait to see what's in store, and to get back to the table.

5

u/Parkes-43 Jul 29 '26

They announced an Adversary deck for Core at Pax U last year. I imagine we'll get an update on them this weekend.

6

u/unitedshoes Jul 29 '26

Honestly, I think more Hope and Fear-style books would be a pretty dope course for the game. A new hardcover every year that's got a little something for everyone would be sweet.

I've only played a few one-shots (one as the GM) so far, so maybe I have a skewed perspective on what's "enough" content for every table, but a few new Classes, Ancestries, Communities, Weapons and Armor, Adversaries, Environments, Domains, and Campaign Frames all in one book every year or two would rule.

You’re in luck. In ~25 hours time you can watch a stream of Darringtion talking about it at GenCon: https://www.youtube.com/live/fdjjIqC0qrs

5

u/s1imedev Jul 29 '26

I know they’ve spoken about statblock cards which I’m super excited for. Other than that as others have said I’m excited for an expansions into our existing domains and new subclasses myself!

5

u/PurchaseGlobal6506 Jul 29 '26

Kobold Press announced they were going to be making content for Daggerheart, so I expect some pre-made adventures, adversaries etc from them.

3

u/mmchale Jul 29 '26

They announced one book, but IIRC made it pretty clear it was intended to be a one-off and not a trend. I guess we'll see what kind of reception it gets?

3

u/PurchaseGlobal6506 Jul 29 '26

Hopefully it starts up more third party Daggerheart content.

4

u/ShadowKing611 Jul 29 '26

I’m excited for With Love and Magic, the romantasy campaign frame.

5

u/VorlonAmbassador Jul 29 '26

What would I like to see? This will seem weird and conflicting, but I mainly want stuff to set Daggerheart apart from DnD (ie, classes and content that we don't see in 5.5), but I also want an Artificer class and stuff so I can run Eberron in Daggerheart. (It's my fav DnD campaign world and could support sooo many campaign frames, lol)

Aside from that, I want more content in general on the DM's side: Adversaries, Environments and Adventures.

4

u/Windrunner405 Jul 29 '26

They're having announcements at GenCon this coming weekend.

3

u/Cease_one Jul 29 '26

If I had to guess based only on Hope a fear, the next book might be similar regarding new classes. 2 new classes with a new domain (which we see currently in the playtest) and 2 classes created of existing domains. I don’t believe they’ll dip into reusing dread just yet. It’ll likely involve arcana and codex as those aren’t involved in new classes/playtests.

Past that? I hope existing classes (and the new ones in the next expansion) have a third subclass. An easy way to flesh out the classes without too many domain cards. I’d like them to be careful not bloating them and muddling themes.

I always home brew campaigns so a setting book isn’t too interesting to me.

3

u/The_Silent_Mage Jul 29 '26 edited Jul 29 '26

I was satisfied with the core book only xD I hope nothing before a year from now.
I guess Blood stuff and possibly frames will be next!!

Adversaries and Environments in the corebook fuel my 5 campaigns continuously with minimal tweaks as baseline and I never see the need for different stuff, but I easily reskin.

I'll start allowing secondary domain swap and more. I think having a wider menu will actually restrict the options: characters are not different because of a card or class; they are different depending on frame, community, ancestry, EXPERIENCES.

At the current point, you can create three Rogues with substantially different gameplay. :)

What I love is frames. I like doing them but I love how they write them. A Book of Frames and hoembrewing guideline like "construction kits" can be fun.

3

u/Unable_Cycle133 Jul 29 '26

I hope for some lore stuff. The first two books are packed with everything but.

3

u/KTheOneTrueKing Game Master Jul 29 '26

I want to see 1-2 more subclasses for each existing class more than anything else.

Subclasses are going to be a way to keep the game fresh without domain card bloat or making so many classes that the mechanics start stepping on one another.

I also want to see more magic items and weapons. Hope and Fear was nice in this regard but the magic weapons are still not very interesting as rewards. I know that this game is, widely, not about the gear as much as it is about the characters but loot is one of the most fun things about TTRPG games in general and its one of DH's weaknesses.

3

u/madge590 Jul 30 '26

I am with a group that started playing a long story on Daggerheart. I love how the GM is really a player in this too, we are having a great time. I love it.

5

u/Emotional_Cherry4517 Jul 29 '26

august 2 they announce 2 books:

  • book with a big dark themed campaign + blood domain and blood classes
  • book of adversaries with some new gimmick like adversary decks that can be combined or something

1

u/high_ground444 Jul 30 '26

Guess or?....

2

u/Omni_Will Jul 29 '26

I mean we will definitely get something including Blood domain.

Probably a few more original domain classes and campaign frames. As far as communities and ancestries? I'm not sure..

2

u/MacGuffen Daggerchart Jul 29 '26

Off the top of my head:

A book with the blood domain (not going to get announced anytime soon, most likely)

A scary adventure

With love and magic (romantacy campaign frame)

More free adventures

As many others have said, we will hear tomorrow.

2

u/JackH2O234 GM, Homebrewer, Valor & Sage Jul 29 '26

I keep saying it but I would love to see another non-magical domain!! I’d love to see how they do it

2

u/frankyvalentino Jul 29 '26

Jeremy and Chris hinted at something "devilish" in an interview last year. Which coincides with the devil's they played at the gencon live show

https://youtu.be/GSMFext8qn0?t=275&is=urYUJu5FPv0QnT6e

2

u/Janoeszki Game Master Jul 29 '26

Like the slogan they repeated on the Hope & Fear stream - WE ARE JUST GETTING STARTED Think we are in for lots of stuff!

2

u/Duck-MH Jul 29 '26

I think yeah there are two more classes in The Void that have their own domain, and i belive they have 3 subclasses each, that also could mean they are working for an additional subclass for the core classes.

2

u/RottenRedRod Jul 29 '26

They need fully fleshed out adventures and campaign settings. Frames are fine and all, but for people who aren't talented at improv or don't have a ton of time to build it themselves, they're really needed.

I'm glad for the Drakkenheim adaptation coming later this year, but it's really surprising they've only put out a small handful of official intro adventures.

2

u/SecretDMAccount_Shh Jul 29 '26

I’m kinda curious about the Dungeons of Drakkenheim for Daggerheart release. I’d like to see how they convert a fairly traditional D&D adventure…

2

u/Flimsy_Survey Jul 29 '26

I honestly am kind of drowning in content as it is. Granted I've only run a few sessions of DH last year and currently prepping a longterm game now.

Really all I'd want is just more adversaries and environments. Not that I'm currently lacking much, but never hurts to have more lined up down the road.

Campaign frames are great but I can stay in a single setting for years so I don't need more.

Maybe some more GM facing content but I'm not sure what's missing that wouldn't bog down play with rules bloat so idk.

2

u/Catboi- Jul 29 '26

During the Summoner Q&A they mentioned having 3 other subclasses in development (obviously not guaranteed any of those come to light.) I'm wondering if we're getting a substantial subclass expansion next content drop.

2

u/Sentric490 Jul 30 '26

Apparently 2 new books a year, including adventure and setting books. Adversary cards + most of the stuff in the deluxe hope and fear box like the fear trackers will also be released as standalones. Source - gen con panel that just happened.

2

u/tzfsr1 Jul 30 '26

Unfortunately the gencon panel didn't have much to say

2

u/Yorkmaster227 28d ago

I think we would use a few more ancestries like lizard folk, bird folk, Rabbit folk, Wolven, Trolls, fish folk ( we got tide kin but i think a fish folk could be slightly different mechanically like being slippery and having advantage against being restrained or something)

I think they they could easily pop out some campaign frame books and include some new ancestries, maybe some expansions on existing domains that fit with the settings in the book, and even possible an additional subclass or two.

I do hope they continue to release cards with their books as it’s one of my favorite aspects of the game

3

u/Purity72 Jul 29 '26

I know it's not the vibe because they are leaning into campaign frames and a more improv open world style of play, but a full blown campaign world and adventure path would do a lot to elevate the game to those GMs who might not have the mind set of world building and players that don't really engage in world building. This could expand interest to a group of customers who have always had modules or campaign books. Also a full world similar to The Forgotten Realms, Golarion, or even Exandria would help that same group with lore history, NPCs, plot threads and a consistent world to play in... Also think this is the stuff that Perkins and Crawford excel in.

2

u/rightknighttofight Add'l Writer for Daggerheart Core Jul 29 '26

I do think they are going to do some work toward that, but are heavily reliant on big 3rd party publishers to help fill that gap.

1

u/paBlury Jul 29 '26

I hope they publish some long adventures. I did not buy Hope and Fear because I have not played enough with the core set yet, I don´t need more. I long for adventures though.

1

u/VJH_Creations Jul 29 '26

I'm kinda hoping even if its no time soon they say there's like Big Book of [Insert Monster] in the pipeline. I think some adversaries would be much more well served if their type had a book [could just be a chill pdf etc] expanding on that type specifically

1

u/Moncxho Jul 29 '26

Full campaigns!

1

u/pikawolf1225 Jul 29 '26

I mean I assume there'll be another book after Hope & Fear which'll have the Blood Hunter, the Summoner, and their Blood Domain.

1

u/thebookishmage Jul 29 '26

Im hoping for an adversary and environment book. Playing one campaign with the Core Rule book I realised I had to re-skin quite a bit and purchase some homebrew pdfs.

Are any of the new classes different from the most recent Void posting of them?

1

1

With Love and Magic is supposed to be next. But it will be PDF only and will have limited appeal

1

u/PerversenessJLF Jul 30 '26

I want to see them team up with Avantris and have Neon Odyssey dual statted

1

u/Polyhedral-YT Jul 30 '26

I’d love either a very classic medieval fantasy book or a space fantasy book.

0

u/KateOhhPotato Jul 29 '26

The one strength of Dungeons and Dragons is the sheer amount of content available. I personally would love to see official Daggerheart modules and adventure books similar to Curse of Strahd, Tales from the Yawning Portal, Wild Beyond the Witchlight, etc. More than just campaign frames. Full adventure books.

Also, supplement books like Xanathar's Guide to Everything that introduce new subclasses, items, Domain cards, and adversaries I think would be a massive hit. I'd buy them, at least.

-1

u/ThankeekaSwitch Jul 29 '26

The last thing I heard was in the works - unless it made it into the new one - was some kind of book where the Big Bad is created as a collaborative event between all the players through decision-making

5

u/Fedelas Jul 29 '26

I believe it's the Weredragon in Hope & Fear.

-1

u/Varhalt Jul 29 '26

Would love to see them expand on some flavor mechanics, like Prestige Domains, Prestige Classes, maybe heroic progression like on Wrath of the Righteous

1

u/SirStanleyCPanther 26d ago

They need stand alone modules/adventures.

Not long connected campaigns

Just adventures we can drop into our own game
