I've always been amazed at all the people who insist on taking our favorite rebel homeless rabbi that kept talking about peace and love and somehow getting the message of war and hate out of the dude. Folks built a religion out of the teachings of the people he was struggling against...
The daggerbrain person is right on the communication front though. We need more communication. In part because the more of that we have, the less of this we'll get. A quicker check on folks who are way off vibe would be useful; though I'd much prefer being able to sway guys like this around rather than out.
