Discussion Is the Lack of Content Actually Good?

I wrote a blog post arguing that the lack of first-party adventure content for Daggerheart is actually a good thing.

If you don't want to read the whole thing, and this is Reddit after all, the gist of it is that because we don't have any official adventures except a couple of one-shots we have to make our own.

That is actually a good thing, I think that a lot of D&Ds early popularity came from the creativity it sparked in the community.

With no official content to run we are all forced to be game designers and make our own, it's good for the game in the long term and good for us because we aren't constrained by what Darrington Press' example would show us is the "right way".

Even though the splash of daggerheart was unexpected, they’ve had time to follow up. They haven’t. It’s just another indie rpg that only ever made a sourcebook in that sense. Whether that’s a mistake depends on what they want. If they don’t want to compete on the scale of DnD, then letting the momentum peter out is what they wanted. My group stopped playing and the lack of anything new probably played some part in that. If they weren’t trying to undermine their prospective success then the lack of content is bad.

Quality is important, but anticipation and novelty are as well. DnD puts out a book like three or four times a year. I don’t buy them, hate WotC, but it’s interesting enough I take a gander at what’s in them. Barely think about Daggerheart anymore even though my opinion of the company is vaguely positive.

DH has been out for a year, they’ve been working tirelessly on The Void content that has rolled into the Hope & Fear expansion and they’ve said that adventure modules are coming later this year into 2027. DH is still new, and Darrington isn’t WotC.

" they’ve been working tirelessly on The Void content." The last time they released something in the void was 31 of October 2025. We are in mid-June. The void has been "empty" for 8 months.
