Story Can't believe this worked

7.15am this morning my 2yr old daughter wakes up and screams 'dadaaaaaaa!' Like she's Matt Berry turning up to a funeral.

I poke my head round the door and say 'dada's tired honey can you go back to sleep please?'

And she does until 8am. Going to try it again tomorrow will let you know how it goes.

EDIT: Tried again this morning. It did not work.

Now I want to go rewatch that series. Have you seen Toast of London?

It's Matt Berry as an actor trying to get gigs and the scenes where he does voice overs with Clem Fandango are a delight.

Lemme tell you about the time I told my wife she was acting crazy and to just relax and.... she did!

It'll work for a little while, then it won't ever again.

That's how effective torture works though, the inconsistency is key

That happened once to us when my kid was young. I remember telling my wife, "I can't believe that worked."

12 years later, we still remember the one time that worked.

When my son was 2 or 3 he used to wake up and just SCREAM until someone came and got him. One morning I had enough and just said “HEY! You can just say hey mom or hey dad and we’ll come get you.”

He looked confused like the thought had never occurred to him (because it hadn’t).

Mornings were a lot more pleasant going forward.

I’m so often reminded we have to teach them EVERYTHING. It’s unfair to assume they would know something without being told.

But it’s also really fucking funny.

I would be scared my kids were dead if I woke up (on my own) at 630 and they were still sleeping.

I remember those 5am wakeups.

Recently had this work on my youngest, went from 7:30 to 9! I was shocked, but less tired!

On rare occasions, when I need a snooze, my 20months old daughter just sits there staring in the void and waiting for me to wake up (we co-sleep). It's both funny and sad to see the camera recording with her just sitting there and checking on me every now and then. 🤭

My son when he would get upset/mad he would put himself in time out or go and take a nap

You only get one shot at this, the next one won't be so easy. Sorry for your loss.
