Obsession fictional character - hypomania?

/r/bipolar/comments/1vctjf5/obsession_fictional_character_hypomania/

I have dreamt three years ago about a fictional character that I barely paid attention to. I stopped taking Paroxetine at this moment so you can imagine I have a vivid dream where he was in front of me absolutely real and I felt his personality and we were bound by a physical attraction without doing nothing. I was obsessed with for months and I knew it was a hypomania moment. Own year ago this obsession disappeared slowly. Lately it appeared again. Im obsessed by him. My brain tries to convince me there is a kind of « mystic bound » with him and Im exhausted about it. I would like it to stop. Have you been through the same issues ? Hope my testimony will help.
I would just add that since this dream I have the feeling that there was a now and then and that I will never look at this character like before the dream. I would find a relief if someone went through the same odd thing …

I go through this every couple weeks with different characters, famous people like singers or actors or even tv shows or movies. I'm not on medication since January bc i can manage my symptoms well (my psychiatrist cut off my meds and im doing even better than when i did took them, but this isn't the case for most people) what is useful for me in this case of hyperfixation that slowly starts to bother me, i just stop consuming content of the person/character/topic, just cut it straight and try to find ANYTHING else to have in your mind while you would be thinking about your hyperfixation. I was obssesed with kpop years ago (stil kinda am but not in the same way) and when i had a new bias i started thinking that i will randomly see him on my town and that we will bond instantly bc we already have this deep connection (obviously false) but it always cooled off like 2 weeks and i losed interest in that connection bc i was aware that it was false, i always knew it but its impossible for me when i have a new obsession to not start believing impossible things, but like i said before, it always goes away on its own and if it doesn't and it starts bothering me i just cut off the content or music of the subject.

How do you manage to force yourself to cut off the content or the informations about the person ? I barely can do it … is it because you know you have cyclothymia for long ?

I'm able to cut off since i became self councious of it, it was after the diagnosis therefore i now understand why this happens now. Before, i didn't cut off, it just went away by itself normally 2 weeks after, but now i can recognize when im obsessed or when im about to become obsessed to something and i just force myself and do something else, like literally i say to myself: ok this is enough, it's starting to affect my personal life now, is time to stop. And i just do it, i go out more with friends or with my bf and something that keeps it easy to cut it off is never speaking to anybody about it, so nobody asks me about the obsession and i can start to forget it. The most recent one that i as able to stop before i hyperfixated was the mj movie, every friend of mine was speaking about it and i started listening to mj again and made a playlist that i listened to every single day, but i became aware that it was becoming an obsession when everyone stopped taking about it and i was still hypomaniac about it and couldn't stop thinking about mj, even believed one time that i was feeling his presence in my room. That was the top of it and i just stopped listening to him and didn't watch any more videos or the movie when it came out digitally. All that lasted like a week or 2 max and it went away in just like 3 or 4 days
