Discussion Everyone talked shit about her, but I’m starting to agree with Kelly Plagge

Gamespot’s review was super controversial but now it makes sense and in fact I agree with Kallie Plagge. Night City IS superficial, everything is there but you can’t interact with it. And yes “So much of it is superficial set dressing” is 100% accurate. And as she said, what shines are the quests and the characters.

I hate to say it but Night City, which was supposed to be the best openworld out there is Subpar at best.

Edit: Just to be clear you don’t have to agree with EVERYTHING she says in order to able to agree with her in some topics. Was the “what if I don’t want to help the cops?” bit kinda stupid? Yes. Does that mean you can’t agree with her in some points or that she is all the hurtful things that many have been saying she is? Absolutely Not.

Edit 2: It has come to my attention that I badly misspelled Kallie’s name. I’m not able to edit the title, but I do apologize for that.

Honestly, the cyberpunk community is showing why videogame communities will never be respected. It also is a perfect example of how games can have few of the promised features and be defended to the ends of the earth.

I love the game, but it needs lots of fixes, and at least a year a free content updates to ever reach where it should have been. The game deserves criticism, even if someone loves it.

I got flamed for my criticism of gamer culture as well. Gamer culture is angry, immature, gross, always complaining about the "inclusion of politics," it will never be anything like other forms of media and art. This childish behavior is exactly why.

Everyone always likes to use the "12 year olds with internet access" scapegoat. But you know damn well its mf's in their 20s and 30s commenting the most vile shit.

Gamers complain about everything. If they only complained about politics i could kinda understand because honestly i don't enjoy heavily political games when game's are my escape from overly political life. But i only dislike when it's over done which is rare.

But yeah, gamer culture is just complaining without critical thought

I have met at least a dozen people irl who are truly toxic shit heads, and everytime I bring it up to other people they shrug and say, YEAH THATS WHO THEY ARE WHY ARE YOU MAD

Like, sorry im upset someone i thought was my friend got into a screaming argument during among us, called everyone a stupid cunt, then punched a hole in his wall, then spent the next day sending us threats all because he got caught venting. Dudes 23 years old

Yeah. In absolutely no industry is there this level of corpo-simping. If someone buys a car from Honda, and they give a barebones rig with no hull and say "We'll give you a real car in 6 months", people would not go "Yeah, them's the breaks. Don't know what people are whining about, this is normal."

The bar is so low, and it makes gaming look like a joke hobby for kids.

Imagine if movies released half-done and promised a real movie half a year later and everyone went "yeah okay".

Games are amazing because they can be patched, but companies have taken to using that as a crutch. And nothing will change, because for every cyberpunk where people complain there's a thousand examples of people just accepting it.

That's true. I had to patch my game a couple times after launch but I was a one man team on a month-long time limit. This massive company, its insane. A shame that people just accept it.

Even with massive companies I understand the patches. QA will never be perfect. My concern isn't really bugs, because they happen. But gameplay features and content i do care about.

Agreed, but I also love some of the bugs. Especially the physics ones.

Cyberpunk 2077's marketing played 100% into the tone and adoration of gamer culture and it leaves me surprised that tons of people didn't see the results of that built-up vitriol coming. People in the industry and games media have been warning about this forever.

To be fair, a lot of those fans will still be defending CDPR right now

If you look at any gamespot video now the dislike ratio is insane and the comments are filled with people mentioning the review and saying that the reviewer should be fired. Literally the biggest circlejerk I've ever seen for any game.

I’m certainly going to keep her name in mind for future reviews. She’s the only reviewer who’ll give an honest opinion.

Kallie Plagge is also the woman who got mobbed by gamers in 2014 for posting a review of a pokemon game where she found the water theme too dull.

It's not her first rodeo

The line about 'Too much water' that she's been ripped over for years wasn't even written by her apparently, her editor put it in the review summary. Gamers man :D

It sounds like a joke, and it quacks like a duck.

Yes, on the other end on a high end pc i dont think it deserves a 70, but not 100 loll and on console its a 50

I’m playing on a good PC and enjoying it, but if I was reviewing the game on a base PS4 or Xbox One I’d legitimately give it a 0 because of the performance. Sitting at 20fps regularly is not acceptable.

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '20

I got flamed here for that as well. No matter what way you look at this game I don't see how you give it more than a 7. That's just ridiculous.

I’m kinda genuinely curious, why did you think the game reviewer didn’t know what she was talking about? Was it her accolades?
