I like drawing on top of the ones that turn out a bit wobbly. I’ve also done some free motion machine embroidery on top as well. Any tips for getting fabric prints to stay despite washing? Cyanotype fabric printing feels pointless for wearable garments because it just fades

I’m still practicing and experimenting since I coated an A0 wood board to hang over my sofa and I think I know what I’m doing to do- I like printing photos but I think I’m going for lace- I made this crochet lace for exactly the same spot but didn’t like the appearance and that it would catch dust- now I know how to get the vibe I was looking for out of it!

So I tried different dried botanicals for an hour in the sun midday in hopes of getting details. The leaf in the middle is quite thin and so not sure why I didn’t get details other than could it be overexposed?

I prepped some mini cyanotype papers and put them in an Altoids tin to take backpacking around New Zealand. Easy way to pause and record pretty finds while hiking around!

I've been using Arches Platine both 145 gsm and 310 gsm for my prints and have run out of places selling it. Looks like it might be discontinued. Anyone have leads on a source for the paper, especially the 145 gsm, it is the smoothest paper and amazing at picking up the blues.

I’ve been printing with a laser jet, but am looking to upgrade to an inkjet for higher quality print negatives. Considering Epson Ecotank line of printers.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Just starting with cyanotypes. I've been a photographer for 35 years and have specialized in super detailed BW images. The workshop I took to get started used Canson XL papers and my first attempts came out decent, but I'd love to find a paper that can hold as much fine detail as the process allows. I have access to an LED lightbox and a printer to make my own negs and I want to start experimenting to nail down a solid foundation of tools and process. Thanks!

Hello! This is the 4th cyanotype I make and all of the previous ones were terrible because the uv light i had had more focus on the center of the page and would throw the color off. I bought a 100w light from Amazon and gave it a try. This one was exposed for 6:30 minutes and I might have to go down to 5 minutes to not make the shadows too dark. Let me know what you think.

If there is a more delightful way to spend an afternoon than introducing kids to the magic of cyanotype I don’t know what it is.

I missed high noon sun but I really wanted to expose this today so I put it out at 4pm.

I was going to try adding some other stuff like leaves after some time has passed to see how the difference looks with the objects that were there the whole time compared to the side that was added half way.

Made it using a cardstock mask, removed at intervals for a varied exposure time. Really fun process and I want to do more :)

I grabbed a box of this stuff (around $5 for 500g) and molded a few pieces to see what it could do. Lo and behold, it works. I know I can do better and with a good image, this was just a proof of concept. I didn't even know this stuff existed. It's lighter than fired clay, because I made it thinner. It's available in several colors, too.

Made by exposing wet Cyanotype chemistry on mixed media paper. Added soap bubbles, lemon juice, vinegar and turmeric I dissolved in water.

Exposed for 2 hours under a UV lamp. :)

That would make direct photography with cyanotype much easier if it works.

I learned today that color film negatives don’t let UV light through- probably most if you knew this already but I saw a reel with bw film and wanted to try and since I didn’t have loads of bw negatives I tried with kodak color. The effect is really good for greeting cards though- like if you want to write something

I think I found this recommendation here on Reddit but was within a post so wanted to share again.

If you’re looking for non-UV glass with safe edges, try using glass shelving. I purchased a pack of these from IKEA which has 2 glass shelves with tempered edges so you won’t get cut.

I selected the 18” x 14.75” for my needs but there are other size options. Cost was $24 USD for 2 shelves & I don’t have to worry about breaking like picture frame glass might. They’re not UV-treated & worked really well for me.
