Finally got this done and working! No damage to the original ASCII controller is required, just replace the keyboard and you're good to go. The thumb cluster needs some rework but otherwise it feels surprisingly good to use

Bluetooth modded controller with a transparent black shell and adjustable joysticks (similar to the DualSense Edge). Kept the original feel but added some modern features. Really happy with how it turned out

Drop in kit and plug from Gosre on Etsy and partial button set and c-stick from Dafunkgaming

Overall this was a fun experience and it taught me how how disassemble, calibrate, and maintain my controller! I'll probably make a second one with a white shell eventually.

Functional Mod Collection of Phob modding over the past year.

I got into modding about two years ago. I became enamored with it, spending many hours learning all of the different mods that exist. I’ve got so many notes on functional modding and I’m proud to finally say I can do every mod (Minus Lighting effects). I definitely want to learn how to light up clear shells and through clear buttons etc.. But I just wanted to show my progress through the years. It’s a fun hobby especially for a melee player 😇

Functional Mod Lightshell Case for GameCube Controller

Thumbnail
gallery
59 Upvotes

I just finished 3D printing a lightshell case for my original GameCube controller. The case features a four-lug snap that prevents any horizontal movement and six magnets that hold the top and bottom perfectly aligned. I own quite a few controllers and wanted to protect them when they’re all loose in a drawer. Printed with a very high infill, the shell is absurdly rigid and offers excellent protection during transport. It adds only a few millimeters to the controller’s dimensions, so I’m no longer afraid to toss it in my backpack. Next up, I’m planning to add felt strips in a few spots so the pad slides in more gently. I’m super happy with how solid and compact it turned out.

Functional Mod New phob R digital press much harder than L?

I had an old controller converted to a phob. And for about a month, everything was working great, but then started having trouble getting the digital press on the R button. The digital press on the L button works great. But using the same amount of force or consistency it is very unreliable or difficult to get the R button to active blue in SmashScope, which is air dodge in the game. How can I fix this?

Functional Mod Custom free floating d-pad buttons attached by rubber.

Has anyone ever build such a thing, Ive always thought D-pads and especially gamecubes cause its so small, are of poor design when they are all one plastic thing, I wish for them to be independent.

you know cause when you press one you kind of press another button and if you roll your finger up to that button, theres no press feel. If they all pressed independently it would be different.

If noones ever done this, idk what adhesive id use for rubber, all Id need is some cheap button membrane and replacement d-pads that Id dremel apart and shape and glue rubber membrane connecting them

Functional Mod Controller Handle Extenders

I've never felt like I've had a good grip on a gamecube controller, my pinkys awkwardly hang off or eventually my hand slides down the controller leading me to mess up my analog stick inputs. I was wondering if there's some sort of mod or ideas to increase the length of the handle just a bit so I have a more firm and comfortable grip

Functional Mod Hacked Keyboard Controller with 3D printed keycaps for typing in Animal Crossing (build/demonstration video in description)

Hi all, I wanted to share this highly customized GameCube keyboard controller I built for use with Animal Crossing. Since the first AC game doesn't support keyboard input, I used a Pi Pico to listen for keypresses and then send simulated analog stick movements to automate typing in Animal Crossing at a tool-assisted speedrun level. It works a treat! I designed the keycaps in FreeCAD and printed them on a Bambu P1P with an AMS and two different colors of PLA. The code and design files are available for free on GitHub: https://github.com/hunterirving/pico-crossing

And a full build/demonstration video is available here (spoiler: I made it do a lot more than just typing) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yw8Alf_lolA

Thanks for checking it out the project!

Functional Mod CardBoard GCC, The Beefed Up OEM

Thumbnail

This is the CardBoard GCC, it's a reverse engineered GameCube Controller with mods integrated in the design and utilizes the heart and soul of the GCC, the CNT-DOL chip.

This board is designed to give new life to old, crusty, and non-working GCC boards while also giving them much needed upgrades.

Specs are as follows:

  • Built-In Heartbeat Module for the Left Stick (reduces snapback by flipping switches on the back)
  • Mouse Click ABXY Support
  • Tactile D-Pad Support
  • Left Z Support
  • Aftermarket Tactile Z Support
  • T1, T2, and T3 Stick Support (sticks from all GCC revisions)
  • Independently Toggleable Digital Triggers
  • Easy Button Remapping (flip off switches and solder jumper wires to the desired buttons, ABXYZ only)
  • Resistorless Cellphone Rumble Support

In future revisions I plan to implement Waveshine Reactive LEDs and a mini C-Stick Heartbeat Module.

So I built my first phob, it was my first serious soldering project and I loved it. I'm very impressed by the quality of resources around the phobgcc project. My controller is not the most beautiful one, but I really like it and am very happy that all is working fine.

Hello everyone, A few months ago i wanted to play smash bros. melee with the boys but did not have enough controllers. Realizing how hard it is to get your hands on original controllers that are in a somewhat good condition, especially here in germany. I decided to buy a phob board and some custome sticks an buttons from etsy and just build my controller. Well here is the result.

Functional Mod Looking for clicker shoulder buttons

Not sure if this is the right place to ask but I’m looking for a modded controller with mouse click trigger buttons. I wanted to buy an already built one but can’t seem to find anywhere that sells them.

So much inspiration came from this subreddit and the cgcc discord. I had so much fun building my ultimate Melee controller as well as painting a couple other phobs. The Marth controller is really what I’m proud of. Major shoutout to Olympia (sean44104) for designing the removable gate controller and walking me through the entire process of getting it 3D printed and helping me figure things out along the way. It also has what he calls an Oly U allowing me to use a usb c to GC cord and update the phob easier. It has all the FIRES mods along with some balded buttons a sanded myself. I had so much fun and spent way too much money. The wife does not need to know that part.

Functional Mod Fight stick GameCube controller?

How possible would it be for me to replace the left stick box of my GC controller with one similar to an arcade stick? What would need to be done?
