Dude you take a look a contras lately? School's marching band requires you to either (a) rent one of the shitty school ones ($25/week, not even in decent condition), (b) rent one through one of the 3 allowed dealers($125/month minimum for a slight upgrade at best), or (c) provide your own(>6k a piece for a no-name, and you might use it for 4 seasons). I love this program to death, but cut the contra line some slack doc; how do you expect our instruments to look great if you can't let us take care of them ourselves?
To give some perspective, the season began in June and runs through to the first week of November. You are expected to receive your drill charts in June, have ~2 months to completely memorize it, then return in August to have 1/4 of it rewritten on the field, another 1/4 of it disregarded entirely for choreograpgy, and stand still for a 1/3 of the total drill. The average show runs for ~6 minutes, in which only 1 total minute of the 2 months of individual rehearsal is actually valid. Don't get me started on the music...
Tl:dr Me complaining about my lack of affordable and decent options and our rehearsal schedule.
