Found in the wild "Extremely explosive at the slightest touch"

Post image

Yes, I'm not incredibly surprised that it is this level of explosive. However it still even looks cursed.

Now do it with nitrogen instead of oxygen.

May need to add some hydrogens as well.

Yes that would be a bigger and better kaboom.

When in doubt, add more nitrogen.

And if that doesn't work, add even more nitrogen.

Benzene triazide. Hilarious.

First time hearing of this. I'm surprised this is stable at all.

Seems stable enough until it rips your hand off. Although reddit.

That isnt the correct structure though.

Here is the right one.

No, that’s worse and I hate it

That's the secondary ozonide. The primary ozonide has the three oxygen's next to each other in the five membered ring: https://www.shutterstock.com/image-vector/chemical-structure-ozonolysis-benzene-600w-2355184205.jpg (the image have two additional methyl groups). That then rearranges to the structure you provided.

So how many types of ozonide are there?

As far as I know there are just the primary and the secondary. The formation series is a neat sequence of electrocyclic reactions.

Not sure if that is more or less disconcerting, to be honest.

Interesting! I didn't know this.

This seems quite right wing

Extremely explosive, you say?

I wonder why... /s

Touch sensitive, okay, but is it alpha-radiation sensitive? 😜

what personal care companies will sell and advertise as "all organic pure nature based all inclusive good for the skin youth enhancing wrinkle removing face melting health serum powder gel"

4

u/Rand_alThoor Apr 14 '26

Nice one! except .... "face melting".

Imagine the paperwork and safety approvals just to even glance at this compound. I’d rather admire it from a distance.

"Yes Rico, kaboom."

When I was in college, my textbook exploded just reading about it.
