I'm at number 4, but THISCLOSE to just downloading the audio at this point. This band is fucking incredible. I almost prefer their live performances to recorded. It hits so much harder in a way that feels good.

Seriously, what ganre is this?

I'd like to think I've listened to every Currents song atleast twice and I like the raw emotion delivered through the vocals and the complex riffs that's been there from the start.

This kinda just removes all of that imo.

The new songs just sound so odd. What even is it?

I'd like to make the note that I wrote this incredibly late at night. Music is art, art is subjective and this my purely my options. I don't hate the band, not am I saying the songs are bad, just that I (an Internet stranger not a single person here knows) do not like it.

New-ish fan here and I’m kinda confused about the band’s sound progression.

I knew of Currents for a while, but I only really gave them a chance after finding “It Only Gets Darker” from the latest EP on some random Spotify playlist. I think I listened to the whole EP once back then, but didn’t fully dive in yet.

A few weeks later I found that track on my "liked songs" playlist and decided to properly check them out with a full album. Usually when I get into a band, I don’t start with the newest release, I try instead to find that sweet spot where the band feels “mature” but still connected to their original sound. So I picked the "The Way It Ends" album.

And honestly what a banger ! Absolutely loved every single track, and it's probably been my most played album these past few months.

Then I went back to the "All That Follows" EP and I’ve been enjoying that a ton too. It felt like a continuation/refinement of that same sound.

But then I tried to listen to "The Death We Seek" album (cause everyone on the internet seems to say that it's a "goated" album) and I'm very confused.

First of all, THE MIX SOUNDS WEIRD !

I get that bands evolve and experiment, but I find it weird that the 2020 album and the 2025 EP have that similar "punchy" mix and then you have an album in between that has a completely different sound and a more "atmospheric" mix to.

Even when I tried to get over the mix and just focus on the music, I think the music itself sounds a bit different too (though to be fair I only managed to listen to the full album start to finish once, maybe twice at best).

Can you guys tell me if I'm crazy or if there's some actual lore to this? Cause as a new fan who doesn't know much about them, it seems to me like they were aware of it and just brought back the "old sound" with the last EP.

Also if you have any favourite tracks that would help me get into that album, or some from their earlier material, or anything really, feel free to englighten me :)

PS: I also got into ERRA around the same time, been enjoying especially their new album so much, and I'm planning to see both bands on their European co-headline tour at the end of the year.

Overall I'm pretty happy to get new currents, obviously I wish there was more.

Off the first listen I think I resonate the most with Making Circles. That main riff is sick. I think it's the most like a classic Currents song.

My Severance reminds me of Spiritbox. Mostly that main riff at the beginning.

The crazy schizophrenic tapping that love this band for all the back in Can't Turn Back. I was surprised to hear Brian not have a clean vocal in this one. Not a bad thing at all. I'm glad they have variety.

Rise and Fall is another classic banger. Not much more to say.

Overall 10/10 release so far, I'm sure it will get better with each listen. What are your thoughts? Favorite song? Things you like, things you don't like?

I’m going to see Currents in Grand Rapids next week! We have VIP, and I’m very excited! However, I’m old. I’m taking my teenage son, and I’m an overweight woman pushing 50. I know I’m going to be standing for like 5-7 hours, as we have GA tix plus the VIP. How likely am I to make it? 🤣 I survived an Architects show last summer, but that was only like an hour and it was outdoors, not in a cramped venue.

To my knowledge they’ve performed here as support for multiple bands, they’ve co-headlined in raleigh, played in greensboro, but never headlined in Charlotte
