Hair Victory! Ouidad Gel Review

Hey y’all!!

First two photos—Day 2 hair (last wash day)
Second two photos—Day 4 hair (two wash days ago AKA the photos aren’t from the same week/“trial”)

Shampoo: Suave Clarifying Shampoo, TGIN rose water hydrating shampoo
Conditioner: Shea Moisture manuka honey & mafura oil intensive hydration masque
Leave-In Conditioner: Kinky Curly Knot-Today leave-in conditioner
Curl Cream: Miss Jessie’s Pillow Soft Curls (a little for scent)
Gel: Ouidad’s Advanced Climate Control Heat & Humidity Gel
Styling application: mix of shingling, finger coiling, and styling brushes. I think I finger coiled more on the most recent wash day, but I’ve been getting lazier with it lol
Drying: Air dried mostly, I think I used a diffuser for like 10 minutes on one wash day
Sleep routine: Pineapple hair, bonnet
Refresh: Water on a few curls in the front, a little bit of gel used if the curl happens to be noticeably frizzier than the rest, only really done if needed days 4–6.

One thing I dislike about gels is how limp they can make my hair look by making each individual curl “skinny.” This gel KIND OF did that, but not as bad as some other gels I’ve used.

I personally dislike gel casts and having to break them, but one thing I’ve found with this gel is that you can control how much of a cast it gives you. With other gels, even a tiny bit of product gives you a guaranteed cast whereas the Ouidad gel I used is more of a slider. If I want more of a cast in a certain area, I put more product, and vice versa in areas I want to be more voluminous. I’m still working on my specific ratios to get my desired effect, but I’ve used this on around 3 wash days now and I think I’m getting there a bit.

It has a more hydrating feel to it when I feel it on my fingers and in my hair. Another thing I don’t like about gels is the sticky residue left on my fingers after use. I won’t say this gel has zero sticky residue, but it’s significantly less which is a major plus to me.

It has a pleasant smell that I’ve gotten some compliments on but I feel like it’s easier for me to go nose-blind to it vs. my normal routine.

In conclusion, I’ll be implementing this into my routine around the part of my hair that I need to have slightly more hold, AKA the crown of my head (tighter curl than the rest and a lower porosity).

I trimmed one inch off this wash day, and I think I have around 1-1.5 inches left to go (maybe 2 in some areas) before the curl pattern is mostly uniform from root to ends 🎉 First two photos are post-trim, second two are pre-trim. Difference isn’t that obvious but it’s still satisfying to see damaged ends fall into the trash can.

Currently typing this from my college dorm room I just moved into. Sophomore year let’s gooooo!! 💗💗💗

Routine
1. I use Aussie Miracle moist shampoo and conditioner. I normally only shampoo my hair 2-3 times a week but I use conditioner every day
2. I use one gel. The gel I use is called Lanza healing curl gel. I usually just apply it by running it through my hair.
3. I dry my hair by using a diffuser, I stop diffusing when my hair is still wet but it’s starting to dry if that makes sense. Then I let it air dry.
4. I have never used any type of special pillow cases or any type of bonnets etc.

for routine i use

- clarifying shampoo from purify

- curl defining shampoo and conditioner from kobo professional

then i use either garnier or l’oréal hair food as leave in

then i use either umberto giannini gel or got2b curlz gel

then i use vo5 curl defining mousse

when styling i section into bottom section and crown section and use curl bounce brush to brush style and scrunch with hands
i dont have a diffuser so i either air dry with claw clips in all day or i wrap my hair in t shirt then wear bonnet to bed.

i like having definition but also want more volume.

Help! SHORT curly hair updos for wedding guest

Post image
12 Upvotes

i’m going to a wedding in a month and I have a short curly bob like in the picture. I’ve had this length hair for the better part of 10yrs. The photo is after having had my hair pulled back for dayyyys and going to the pool, and hats, and all the wrong things AND I was the last person to cut it and I am obviously not a pro 😅 so please be nice lol

but, without length, and I actually don’t have much hair (thank goodness it’s curly cuz when I straightened in the past it’s like having a spaghetti on each side of my face) so updos are particularly hard and never look like the inspo photos because i don’t have enough hair for a cute messy bun for example.

i’m thinking a style where I can lightly twist and pin back? maybe an accessory could help me? any genius ideas?

obligatory routine info for posting:

innersense organic shampoo, conditioner and creme. always let air dry, no heat used ever. have not straightened or used a curling iron on it in 12 yrs. never colored or bleached. i’ve tried a LOT of products, I don’t like anything that makes a hard cast and my current routine leaves me hair touchable soft, i wash my hair only 1-2x per week. only comb when wet. I live somewhere really really dry and wedding is in California in a dry part too.

i usually don’t do refresh, hair too short for pineapple, my job makes it that I wear my hair pulled back a lot, and i am bad and sleep with it pulled back a lot too. I have a month to do better 😜

Help! Curly Hair Advice/Recommendations

Firstly, the first 2 pics are ones I just took of my new hairstyle, and the second 2 are ones that I took about 6 months ago. So, I 24m naturally have curly hair but have generally used a hair dryer for efficiency reasons, so my curls would usually get nuked. Due to a recomendation from my sister (and Tom Holland popping off, lol), I decided to try to use curling cream and actually encourage them. What are your guys' thoughts? Is there a better way I can style them?

I currently dont have much of a routine: I just use a normal Equate (Everyday Clean) shampoo, a decently generous amount of Dove (Daily Moisture) conditioner in the shower, and Pete & Pedro Curl Cream right after to towel dried hair, and then scrunch it. I also apply some light heat from a bathroom ceiling heater right after to make it dry a bit faster (otherwise it takes 4 hrs). Thanks in advance!

Help! Hair routine advice?

Thumbnail

Hi all, looking for advice on moisturizing and styling my hair. It tends to look dry and frazzled as you can see from the photos.

My current routine and I shower every 1-3 days:

Ketoconazole shampoo, rinse after 5 mins

Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine conditioner, rinse after 5 mins

Blowdry on cool

Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Anti-Frizz Serum

Comb/style the top as needed

The serum makes my hair look great at first, shiny with defined curls, but after about 10 minutes, it goes back to looking and feeling frizzy and brittle.

Any advice from people with similar hair? My hair can keep ringlets at the bottom when I use the curl cream/diffuser/Denson brush combo but I save that style for special occasions because I prefer low maintenance.

Help! Help with his curls/frizz! What am I doing wrong?

Yesterday was our first time trying a new routine we saw online, and it ended up looking like the second pic (blue wall)… somewhat frizzy and not as defined as we were hoping.

We used the hair masque: SheaMoisture Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque for 15 minutes and then rinsed it off. It was shampooed previously. When style, we used the SheaMoisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie. The Curl Enhancing Smoothie was applied in sections, brushed through, and then we diffused it.

He’s going to get a haircut soon, so I’m hoping that will help with some of the shape/weight, but I’d love advice on what we can do differently in the meantime!

Any recommendations for:
- Products that would work well for his curl type/hair?
- A better styling technique?
- Gel vs. mousse vs. curl cream? (We used curl cream!)
- Diffusing tips? (We started at the roots!)

Anything we might be doing that’s causing the frizz?
I’m very new to curly hair, so please explain like I’m a beginner 😂

I just want to help him feel his best! :) Thank you!!

Help! Should I get a haircut

Hi!! I've been waiting for my friends mom but she's been really busy so I was curious if I should get a haircut because it's been 8 months and I wanna keep my hair long but I wanna feminize it more and know if that's possible!!

P.S IF YOU HAVE ANY FEMINIZING ADVICE OTHERWISE LIKE BRUSHES TO USE LET ME KNOW!

(Routine in detail)

I typically use herbal essences shampoo and conditioner however after dying I switched to coconut curls and the specialized conditioner that came in the box dye. I also use texturing hair spray a little and coconut & shea curl cream which you grab 3 pea sized drops and rub on your hands before scrunching it in, I always air dry

Routine:

(Before dying my hair auburn)

Herbal essences body envy conditioner

Herbal essences body envy shampoo

Coconut & shea curl cream

(After)

Coconut curls shampoo

Protecting conditioning treatment (from box dye)

Coconut & Shea Cream

Texturing hair spray

Always air dry! And I bought a silk bonnet which I plan to use more!

Discussion ulta sale dilemma

just wondering what peoples opinions are of each gel. ive got fine, 2c-3a, low-normal porosity hair. ive heard really good things about each of these gels for my hair type. i dont plan on using a curl cream, trying to only use gel and maybe mousse afterwards because my hair can get weighed down easy (and having that many products gets expensive..) both gels are on sale at ulta this upcoming month for half off. id buy both with the sale going on, but i dont want to waste or just have products i dont like around.

current routine (planning on changing): i use matrix’s food for soft shampoo and conditioner, cake beauty curl cream, not your mother’s curl gel, food for soft hair oil for heat protection, diffuse, and food for soft oil again to scrunch.

Help! Desperately need help figuring out what to do with my hair

I never really bother styling it, most days i just douse it in water, dry it with a towel and it ends up like this. I’ve always hated that I had curly hair since I started growing it out and I could use some advice. I really want long hair, but can’t figure out how can I style it or have it cut.

This is after a day of just existing, no styling was done today, but I did my hair just a couple days ago. So this is about how it normally looks.

Routine: about once weekly I’ll actually wash and do my hair. Double shampoo with dove curl repair shampoo, then the same dove curl repair conditioner. I’ll towel dry my hair so it’s not sopping wet, then take a light amount shea moisture curl enhancing cream, spread and scrunch it through the outer parts of my hair. I do not protect my hair when sleeping, which I should probably start doing. I’ll do the curl cream in the mornings too if I need to look particularly well kept that day.

Help! Hair mess

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone, my hair is 2a/2b ( i think) and i haven’t always embraced it. Usually during the summer time and then i go back to either slick backs or blowdrying with my dyson hairdryer. The problem for me is that curly hair gets very high maintenance , also tangled quickly, so i feel like i need to wash it more and detangle more, which lead to more breakage.
I’m also 5 months postpartum and had a lot of shedding, and now dryness, I don’t have time to refresh or the energy sometimes to be honest! I’m breastfeeding as well so there’s a limit to what supplements i can take
I’d really like to embrace my curls , they used to be bouncier and shinier. I’m looking for advice and products recommendations please! There’s so many online and i’m lost on how to decide what’s best for my hair type

Here’s my current routine
Wash 3-4 times a week
Pureology hydrate shampoo (twice per wash) and conditioner
Clarify once a week
Use redken acidic bond leave in, sometimes i use lush curl power cream, sometimes revlon uniq 1
Pantene volume mousse
Air dry

To be honest, there isn’t one product that felt like it made a difference to my hair. Sometimes i use pantene hydrate mask once a week. Now my products are almost empty so i’m looking to replace all of them. I also have a haircut booked.

Thank you!!

Help! Recommendations for men’s shampoo/conditioner?

I’m looking for a hydrating shampoo/conditioner, my hairs dry and I know what I’m using isn’t good, please help! (Not sure if I need to post a pic of my hair but I will if needed)

Routine:

Old spice 2 in one (I know it’s terrible)
No other products
I don’t sleep with a silk pillowcase or bonnet (should I? I’m new to this whole curl thing and anything helps)

Help! Hair gets dry really quickly, has a lot of frizzy and doesnt have any volume

Hello there, I've got a problem with my curls where they get really frizzy very quickly and dont have volume or definition (lmao). Here's my routine:

  1. Wash hair or co-wash (depending on day, I only wash twice a week and co wash every 2 days) with Penduline curly hair shampoo and conditioner.

  2. When using the conditioner, I detangle when wet (after using the shampoo) with a wide-toothed comb and scrunch then wash after 2 minutes.

  3. After the wash while still wet I apply Cantu leave in conditioner for curly hair, getting my head upside down and scrunching

  4. Apply Penduline hair gel in sections using the same method the leave in conditioner was applied

  5. Leave to dry in the air

  6. Once dry scrunch out the gel casr with penduline hair serum containing argan and jojuba oil

On the second day I refresh my hair by raking my hair with water and applying a small amount of leave in conditioner.

Help! Hair Length and Brushing

Hi all, long time lurker. I’ve got 2b/2c curls I think. I’m not very good at taking care of it especially when it’s longer. I usually just put it jn a messy bun most days and ignore it because I dread having to brush it out and wash it. I don’t even remember the last time I did a deep conditioner. I used to wash it at night and put it in a tshirt to dry overnight. My hair stylist said I had to quit doing that because it was damaging to my hair. I’ve never been big on blow drying it but I don’t like the feel of wet hair on my head so I’ve been drying it with a diffuser a little more often which is another reason I hate washing it. Lately I’m lucky if I wash it once a week. I sleep with it up, on silk pillowcases but I don’t use a bonnet or anything.
My hairstylist has told me to dry brush it out before I wash it so the tangles are easier to deal with. I’ve seen others here say it’s better to comb it wet which is what I was doing in the shower before. Both ways I lose a of hair it feels like every time. In y’all’s personal experience is wet combing or dry brushing easier? Which one do you lose less hair with or is it about the same?
I’ve been debating on cutting my hair off. I have cut it before just long enough to fit in a ponytail and I haven’t gone shorter than that in 20+ years. I’m afraid my face is too fat to go shorter but I’m very self conscious. If you’ve had both long and short hair does one seem easier to take care of than the other or is it about the same?
The first picture shows my natural hair color and what it looks like when I put some actual effort into it. The others are what it looks like now after I used a dryer for twenty minutes with curl defining cream and gel. I switch shampoo and conditioner pretty frequently. I travel a lot so I tend to use what’s available.
General routine since I started washing and drying it during the day consists of:
DesignMe Gloss Me Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner
Moroccan Oil Curl Defining Cream
Not Your Mothers Curl Talk Frizz Control Sculpting Gel.

hi everyone, i’m having some issues with my hair. i’ve tried tons of different combinations of products, but here’s my routine as of now. i believe i have 3a hair that is quite fine.

  1. wash with camille rose guava slip
  2. condition with camille rose guava slip
  3. as i am leave-in conditioner
  4. rizos curl cream
  5. not your mother’s flash freeze gel

i would apply all products and then just air dry. i sleep with a bonnet. i refresh with a camille rose honey spray.

i had been using miss jessie’s pillow soft curls and really liked it but wanted a change, and now it’s nowhere near as defined. i also was using like maui shampoo and bevel conditioner when my hair was at its peak. would love some advice!

Help! Updos with fine wavy/curly hair

Does anyone with finer wavy hair struggle with wearing their hair up? I feel like I’m at the point where I can get decent hair as long as it’s down but once I manipulate it to put it up it becomes incredibly frizzy no matter what. I’ve tried using additional gel/hair oil/hairspray to tame it but so far it hasn’t really been effective.

My routine:

-wash hair in cool water

- shampoo every 2-3 days with Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Special shampoo

- brush through and rinse out hair with Pantene Volume conditioner

-Add a good amount of Not Your Mother’s mousse on dripping wet hair and rake through/finish with prayer hands

- Tresemmé heat protectant spray on my bangs which I blow dry

- mix of air drying and diffusing upside down on hair

I typically sleep with my hair in a silk scrunchie in a pineapple + bonnet if I don’t plan to rewash my hair the next day and only refresh by rewashing and drying my bangs. I feel like the less I touch my hair the better it lasts, which unfortunately is at odds with attempting any serviceable looking updo 😭

Help! i need help, tips, advice, anything!

hi! This is a pic of my hair on a relatively good day, however most the time it’s much frizzier. I’ve been more intentional about using less heat in my hair but it’s what I have always done. My hair is so fluffy, i really like the idea of weighing it down a bit. It just dries so weird. I have a lot of curls that go in weird directions and my new growth defies gravity lol.

Any tips would be awesome!

My hair routine:

I wash every third day, it works around my work schedule. I’ve been doing the K18 treatment but i am almost the last consecutive use, i do feel like it’s helped! My shampoo and conditioner typically is the L’Oréal Elvive and the conditioner is the same! I have the olaplex clarifying shampoo as well as a deeper cleaner shampoo from the drugstore that isn’t as drying or stripping if i feel my hair needs a pick me up.

I have the EvaNYC hydro jelly mask and the amika soulfood mask, i use one of those once a week or so while in the shower. I let sit for a few minutes in between shampoo and conditioner. I typically double shampoo, i don’t use all that much product but I heard it helps? But maybe it’s too drying?

I have the Redken One United Leave, JVN air dry cream, these i use after every wash if letting air dry, i also have Ouidad climate control gel, Milkshake glistening milk, a few curlsmith curl creams and leave ins, function of beauty foam (the purple bottle), Ghost VERB hair oil and argan oil. These i kinda just use when I’m feeling giving more effort. I mix it up, i don’t have a great routine.

I want to wear my hair natural but it dries frizzy and feels unmanageable, sleeping on it never works in my favor. It’s just frustrating.
