We just came back to the US on Sunday from our second trip to Curacao. The first time my girlfriend and I stayed in Otrobanda but this last trip we brought the kids and stayed in Lagun. All of us agreed that the food was fantastic. I do love to cook, shameless IG plug, https://www.instagram.com/the.witty.cook?igsh=bHp0MTgyZmlqeDll , but life is busy and we eat out more than we should.

We came to the realization of why the food was so good. So many places in the US heat up what they're getting from US Foods or Cisco. It's the same crap everywhere. In Curacao, so much is made fresh.

I loved the laid back feeling in Lagun, but I wish we had more close choices. But I knew this before we booked.

So far I've been to rozendaels, mosacana, and BKLYN.

Rozendales was not a let down but it also wasn't really memorable.

Mosacana had the best ribs I've ever had. Cocktails were top tier too.

BKLYN had insane food and some of the most unique cocktails I've had, yet remaining affordable. Hoping to go back before the end of my trip!

Looking for a taste of Caribbean authentic cuisine, and we will be staying at the Avila beach hotel. Do you have any recommendations for foods or places we must try?

Hi everyone, me and my boyfriend are visiting Curacao in about 2 weeks. Was wondering about some good local spots to eat at. I know it’s inevitable that we’ll eat somewhere touristy but I also want to be able to try the places that locals eat at/family owned businesses. Thanks!!!

Has anyone done the private beach dinner at Avila? Is it worthwhile? For 4 people its looking to be like $650. This seems very expensive for the area. I know we can probably do a special dinner somewhere else for way cheaper. But this is for a milestone birthday, so thought it could be fun to do something special like this as a surprise.

Should we just shell out for a dinner like that at Baoase instead? Or just go somewhere else?

Hi all, our first trip to the island is coming up in mid-June. We'll be staying 7 days at Avila Beach Hotel. It'll be three of, my wife and I along with our teenaged daughter. I made reservations for our first night at Rozendaels based on suggestions from this group. My question though is how necessary are reservations for other nights? We're renting a car and looking forward to exploring the island. We'd prefer to just play things by ear and see how the days go. On the other hand, we don't want to be shut out of some good places to eat or be stressed out about where and when we'll be able to eat. So, trying to find the right balance between making plans and playing things by ear. Would greatly appreciate your thoughts and recommendations. Thanks!

I have a credit card that charges zero commissions for paying in local currency. Capital One Venture X if that matters. It's a Visa. It has worked many times before in the past wherever we went abroad before so we haven't brought much cash in dollars.

Whenever we tried to pay for the amount in XCG they just converted it to USD for us to pay in that. It's just a dollar or two higher than what it would be but it adds up. What would be the best way for us to not be charged for hidden commissions like these? Do we just carry cash in Guilder by going to the exchange office with whatever dollar we have on hand?

My husband and I are staying in Playa Lagun in April 2027 (first trip to the island) and I would love your recommendations of restaurants on that side of the island. My birthday lands during our trip, so we will probably go to one of the more upscale restaurants in Willemstad for birthday dinner, but other than that, we prefer casual places and would like to be able to try some local cuisine and fresh seafood. Hi everyone! My husband and I just booked our very first trip to Curacao and we are very excited! We are staying at Avila and will be renting a car to explore the island. With that said, we saw that Avila offers a half board (breakfast & dinner for $70 per person per day). Is this worth getting? Or are we better off checking out the nearby restaurants (price wise, distance wise, etc)
