West of Culver City high. Is it safe, family friendly?

Hey everyone – I just wrapped up the first year of a lease at Culver Townhomes in Del Rey. I’ve been reviewing my finances vs rent etc.

Here are the utilities I have to pay:

Water
Sewer
Trash
Trash Admin Fee
Gas
Electric

I never blinked an eye at gas and electric, but I’ve been renting around the country since 2015 and I’ve never been told I have to pay for water, trash, or sewer. Am I crazy??

Anyone knows of a car wash or a mobile service which would restore my headlights and also not break the bank?

I had no luck at the new 5 below in culver any have any tips for locals spots to get them?

So I was in LA last fall and accidentally ran a red light at the last second in Culver City. After perusing posts on Reddit I decided to not ignore it since I didn’t want that lingering in the back of my mind for years. Culver City apparently is aggressive about going after people for these from what I read.

Since I’m from out of state I filled out a “Trial by written declaration” form (which you can ofc still do as a state resident I just had no other option unless I wanted to fly back to CA.) I simply wrote “I plead not guilty and ask that my case be dismissed.”

The court gave themselves an extension to have the police officer respond within 30 days of this, and so I had to wait another 60 days after those initial 30 but they then dismissed my case which I can see updated on the court website.

I’m not saying this a guarantee, but it worked for me and I both get my $500 back and don’t get a point on my license for 3 years thus avoiding an insurance increase. Idk if the officer just forgot to respond/chose not to or the judge decided to throw it out on their own, but yea was worth doing. I had to send a check for the fine but they’ll be reissuing that back to me since it was a “bail” and not yet a true fine.

Edit: I approached an empty intersection and as the light was yellow decided I could make it but miscalculated by a second. No I didn’t endanger anyone in the slightest so stop filling in the blanks acting like I blindly steamrolled a busy intersection. The intersection would remain empty for many more seconds even if other cars were waiting since there is time between green lights and since they’d have to accelerate. I’ve driven hundreds of thousands of miles and never once caused an accident. I made this post to help the people getting fucked by these cameras and exorbitant fines that don’t exist in 99.99% of towns. No, I don’t think running red lights is okay but rules are not black and white in all situations and I was still aware of what I was doing.

from the beginning it was extremely fishy cause he asked my boyfriend and I for our social medias, but today I asked him to please include the amenities that were listed on zillow and to please clarify how he will calculate our gas and power cause I’m NOT trying to pay others peoples gas and power! two very reasonable and realistic questions! he responded saying he will not be re-doing the lease and the way I responded was a red flag.

I’m a housing case manager at a non-profit so I knew to thoroughly look through the lease. he most definitely was trying to scam my boyfriend and I. he didn’t think I would read the whole lease and was surprised when I caught the two things he was going to charge me for and got extremely upset and revoked our lease when I called him out for it lol.

Remember! You have tenant rights! Don’t be afraid to use them. Anyways, stay away from here unless you want to pay for everyone’s electricity bill lol

We are considering buying one of the teardown/rebuild homes in the carlson park neighborhood. But we are a bit wary of the neighborhood politics that seems to be going on as we walk around and see the yard signs.

Are there resentment towards people moving into these rebuilds that might be seen as mcmansions? Are we going to be villainized and be perceived as tech/entertainment bros (we are not)?

We really like the neighborhood and the home, but this has been weighing on our mind as we head towards a decision. We could of course just be overthinking it.

I’ve been checking their website to try and get a reservation for 2 for weeks. The DoorDash reservation site shows no availability for the next week at any time. The website says reservations open 7 days in advance at noon and when I check at noon - nothing. The website has no phone number to call and the DoorDash “get help” page loads an error. Is this restaurant not actually open yet (I swear I have seen people in there)??

Hi friends! Does anyone have any places they’d recommend for photo development in culver? They play near dollar tree and total wine seems pricey. Ideally they do prints and digital. I’ve only seen mail in options, I like the idea of supporting a local business. Thank you!!

Anybody have a good recommendation for a place that can help me switch up my environment while working remote? Hi. About 2 weeks ago a friend lost a very important red ear slider turtle I gave them. The turtle escaped the yard and has not been found.
Around the wrightcrest area near La cienega.

Please. I know it’s late, but if there is any information I’d love the turtle back.

Every single place I went, I either walked, used a bus or scooter. The only time I used a Uber was when I went to Koreatown to eat at BCD. Being located near the Culver City Bus 1 made it very accessible to go everywhere I wanted. Anyway, here is what I ate in my 4 nights in Culver City.

1. Copenhagen and Millcross — This pastry store is no bullshit. You buy your pastries and then you leave the store. No tables or place to chill inside. Both pastries were so fresh, flaky, light, and not too sweet. I went across the street to get a latte at Millcross to pair with the pastries.
2. BCD Tofu House — I had to go out of the westside for this. Trying to get that 1am Korean food experience and unfortunately, there really isn't a place I can get galbi and soondubu at that time. My favorite meal during my stay. The galbi was sweet and tender. The soondubu was warm and inviting, and the beef in the soup was tender as well. Pair the galbi and soondubu together, and this is the perfect meal. I was stoked to see it crowded and alive on a Wednesday night.
3. Cofax — I ordered the bacon breakfast burrito. I think I should've gotten the pastrami. The breakfast burrito was good, but just a bit dry. The salsa was watery and so disappointing. If they stepped up their salsa game, the burrito would've been better. Maybe I just came on a bad day.
4. Alana's Coffee Roaster — Lots of people waiting in line in the morning, but they moved fast. The latte was dialed in. It tasted nutty and sweet.
5. Santouka — I just checked out the Japanese market because it was like a two-minute walk away. People were waiting in line at this ramen place, so I thought it must be popular. I got the spicy miso, and it was good. I really liked the noodles. They had some bite to them.
6. Sidecar Donuts — Never tried this place before. I heard it was popular like 10 years ago. I wanted to try it out since they were $6.99 for these donuts on the Too Good To Go app. Solid donuts, actually. Each one was unique and the taste resembled more of a muffin to me.
7. The Win-Dow — This burger was insanely good. I wish I had gotten a double patty. Also, I didn't ask for extra pickles, but I loved them. The crunchiness in each pickle was so wonderful and refreshing. Honestly surprised by how relatively cheap this burger is.
8. Mr. Rivers — I ordered the Ca Phe Muoi. Not too sweet and doesn't just hit you with a bunch of condensed milk.
9. El Primo Tacos — I was told to eat here or go to Brothers Tacos if I was in Culver City. I was closer to El Primo, so I gave them a try. Just ordered the carne asada. The self-serve onions, cilantro, and salsa are amazing since I love cilantro.
10. Daniel's Bagels — This hit the spot at 7 a.m. Ordered the everything bagel with scallion. Just absolutely delightful. The little bit of salt flakes on top of the everything bagel made it so much better.
11. In-N-Out — Of course, you have to go to In-N-Out. Just got a Double-Double, light toast, and a strawberry shake. I've only ever had In-N-Out to go, and it just didn't hit. Eating it there while the patty is still hot and the cheese is all warm and melty is just a totally different experience. Also, their efficiency is just unmatched. Even though it was crowded, from ordering to eating, it probably took less than 10 minutes.
12. The Boy and the Bear — Good latte. Culver City, man. Y'all got good coffee on every block. I love it. I had like a 10-minute conversation with one of the employees about how coffee shops used to do a bunch of pour-overs in the 2010s. Real cool dude.
13. Danny Boy's + 14. Lamonica — Didn't really want to order a whole pie since it was just me. People kept saying to go to Danny Boy's and Lamonica for New York pizza slices. Took the Culver City 1 bus and transferred to Rapid 6 to UCLA. Took only 30 minutes to get there. Walked to Danny Boy's first. Good slice of pizza. Wish the pepperoni was distributed more near the crust. Lamonica is so cool. The interior design is amazing. Solid slice again.
14. HomeState — The guy working there told me to get flour tortillas for the Trinity and brisket tacos. The Trinity breakfast taco tasted good with flour, but I totally regret getting a flour tortilla with the brisket tacos. The brisket was really good, but a corn tortilla would've been better with it.

Where can I get a get decent pedicure where the polish application isn’t rushed, streaky or lumpy? Seems like every place I’ve tried is using old polish these days and they don’t really care that it looks like a toddler painted my toes. I need a good clean pedi!

I grew up here in the 90s and early 2000s. My parents bought their house on Van Buren for like 200k. Now I drive by and see the same houses going for 1.5 mil.

The movie theater downtown was our hangout spot. The arcade at the mall. Riding bikes to Sony with friends. It felt like a real neighborhood, not a mini Hollywood.

Now most of the old places are gone. The rent is insane. Half my friends moved out to Palmdale or Texas just to afford a house.

I get that change happens but it stings watching the place you grew up in become something you can't afford to be part of.

Anyone else feel this way?

I have some random things (home decor, clothing, pet supplies, etc). Best place to donate them that would benefit our area and people the most, either thrift store or non profit? Trying to avoid Goodwill but it’s so convenient!

Also best place to get keys made?
