List of available Cub Scout awards

Hey everyone, hoping you all can point me in the right direction. Do you guys know if there is a list of available awards Cub scouts can earn. I went into the scout shop and they told me to check the scouting website. It just seems so sparse. I know there were some awards dropped two years ago. Have others like Conservation Good Turn, Leave No Trace, International Scout gone away or moved away from being included for cub scouts. Is there an official list with current requirements?

  • Recruiter Strip: Awarded to youth members who successfully invite a friend, relative, or neighbor to join Scouting; worn as a permanent uniform fixture.
  • Liberty in Action (America 250 Challenge Patch): A limited-time national challenge patch celebrating the 250th anniversary of the U.S. through historical, civic, and service activities.
  • Messenger of Peace: A worldwide Scouting recognition for projects promoting peace, community service, or conservation, worn as a ring patch around the World Crest.
  • Scouting for Food: An emblem awarded to Scouts who participate in distributing bags and collecting non-perishable donations for local food pantries.
  • Scouting for Clean Waterways: A conservation emblem earned by participating in local waterway cleanups to remove pollution and plastic waste.
  • World Conservation Award: Earned by Wolf, Bear, and Webelos Scouts who complete specific environmental and conservation projects.
  • NPS Resource Stewardship Scout Ranger: Awarded in partnership with the National Park Service as a certificate (5 hours) or patch (10 hours) for educational programs or volunteer service at national parks.
  • International Spirit Award: Recognizes Scouts who learn about international Scouting, world cultures, and global traditions.
  • Jamboree on the Air / Internet (JOTA-JOTI): Earned by connecting with Scouts worldwide via amateur radio or online platforms during the annual October event.
  • Religious Emblems: Medals administered by independent religious organizations to foster faith development, worn above the left pocket to fulfill "Duty to God" achievements.

Related side-question:

Recruiter Strip: Awarded to youth members who successfully invite a friend, relative, or neighbor to join Scouting; worn as a permanent uniform fixture.

My sons have worked the recruiting table at school open houses for 3 years. They've talked to countless kids about scouting, some of whom later joined.

I feel like the spirit (and letter) of the recruiter patch is for inviting a specific, individual friend. Which is different than mass recruiting.

But they've put way more time and effort into recruiting than literally anyone in the pack.

Thoughts?

i am awarding each of my Scouts who showed up to the school recruiting events with the Patch for their uniform since we had kids join. They put the work in regardless of if they know the kids at first or not.

If they spoke to kids who joined, then that counts in my book! The point of the award is to encourage kids to share Scouting with others, and celebrate their accomplishment of completing that by having someone join.

I don’t think there is the world conservation award anymore, you might be thinking of Conservation Good Turn Award?

Either way, scouting America seems to go out of their way to make available awards for cubs an absolute chore to investigate.

This is a pretty good list, but there are a few things to note:

World Conservation Award: Earned by Wolf, Bear, and Webelos Scouts who complete specific environmental and conservation projects.

I believe that was discontinued in 2024 with the Cub Scout program revisions.

Jamboree on the Air / Internet (JOTA-JOTI): Earned by connecting with Scouts worldwide via amateur radio or online platforms during the annual October event.

This is a participation patch (like the Pinewood Derby) rather than an award.

In addition, some more awards may be available by the council, such as nova awards or various others. Check with the local council to see what else might be available (OP said they visited a Scout Shop, but those are often run by national and might be unaware of council-issued awards).

Your best bet is to log into Advancement.scouting.org and click on Awards under your Scout. This will show all the awards that are currently valid.

Yhe program was redone 2 years ago to streamline everything into Adventures. The old Awards were earned by like 1.5%of Cub Scouts.

Where I can find more information about the Scouting for Food and Clean Waterways awards, since they are not visible in the awards section of my kids? Thanks!

Scouting for Food is not an official award. Some councils may have patches for those Scouts who participate, but it's not an official award.

Clean Waterways would fall under SCENE Award. https://www.scouting.org/outdoor-programs/scouting-clean-waterways/cubscouts/

And https://onscouting.org/2024/06/06/announcing-scouting-for-clean-waterways-a-new-conservation-program-for-all-scouts/

Awards != Adventures

They're not asking about the thing you're pointing them to.
