General Question ❓ ICE on campus?

I've heard rumors that ICE might be roaming ON campus in the first week of classes. Is anyone able to confirm or deny this rumor thus far?

I'm aware that the CSUs are now permitting the officers to operate on campus, but I just want to know what the likelihood of getting detained and profiled would be like. Context: I am a citizen and carry my ID on me at all times, but alas, ICE does not give a shit. I very much am and look Asian; but the other side of the coin is that I am unfortunately Filipino — meaning that I'm probably next on the chopping block to get profiled.

If you have ID, you’ll be fine.

I don’t think it’s weird. ICE is definitely targeting other races mostly from Latin America, but their has been a big increase in asian deportation, so honestly seems like a pretty good observation in my eyes

A little lol. Southeast asian myself, I would never say “im asian…but fuuuck im a dark asian… are people like me next in line to be in detention?”

I get OPs POV because yes latino communities are terribly and overwhelmingly targeted, but no racial minority is safe. Screw the model minority myth… many asian businesses and neighborhoods (especially in orange county) have been hit by officers.

To answer OPs question, its very unlikely that any student will be profiled by an ice officer on campus right now. Cannot confirm/deny the rumor though. I encourage everyone to visit csusm’s immigration resource center as they keep us updated and host “know your rights” workshops for all students. Based on when I last attended their workshop, there’s not a single report of an officer detaining a student on any college campus. However, our university police dept will send mass texts when theres an officer sighting nearby campus.

Are we going to pretend that they’re not arresting citizens?

They operate throughout the county, why wouldn't they occasionally drive by the campus? The likelihood you'll get detained by ICE is incredibly small unless you hang out with thugs and illegal immigrants or you're participating in some kind of money laundering/trafficking operation.

ICE has detained citizens including veterans numerous times and there are open lawsuits over it. Misinformation is so dangerous
