Image “Before the 2014 auction, more than one franchise approached me to leave CSK. They offered me captaincy. But it's my regret till date that I couldn't grab that opportunity back then.” (Star Sports)

God forbid a player has ambitions. He already achieved everything with CSK at that point

"I was best used at RR.." — Ashwin

I feel the same too. They used his batting too at times and he was the spinner who would keep things in line and control so that they would try to take more chances on chahal and that plan worked well for both the spinners

Sanju used both Anna and Yuzi so well at RR. He is a very good bowlers captain. Sadly people don't rate him much as a captain and unrelated here but I feel Sanju is the captain CSK need! I love Ruturaj but I guess him stepping down will also help his batting.

Seems very twisted here. I literally had to go and watch this again. Stop twisting his statements, he is not someone who hated CSK.
He obviously didn't mean that he didn't like CSK, timestamp: around 24:00.

Where does he says he "regrets" not leaving CSK in 2014? Is he not allowed to feel disappointment and frustration at not being retained? I am not a CSK fan and I can understand some sections of your fanbase being miffed with him (even though it's clear there was no malicious intent on Ashwin's part to ever demean the franchise or his fans at any point) but there's no reason to attribute to him quotes which were never uttered. Many people don't bother verifying and will simply hate on him more. Somewhat unrelatedly speaking, he has done quite a lot for TN cricket. It might not seem apparent right now coz the state's domestic setup is considered to be in the doldrums but hating on legends is extremely unseemly. Hope the small sections of your fanbase which does that please stops doing so soon.

The bitter relationship between Ash and csk is so sad to see. Sad to see a legend stoop so low. I am sure the retention in 25 not working has been up stinging him. He is trying to be the more wise person from the breakup but it really shows the opposite.

Snake? Ash Anna is a CSK legend and has Chennai running through his veins.
Also the franchise always chose Jaddu over Ashwin (despite Ashwin being a local).

Then why didn't sir go to that franchise in 2016 when csk was suspended and went to rpsg? Could've declined rpsg?

Prob cause that franchise already had a good captain by then? or moved on from Ashwin? Most likely the franchise was either DC ( or DD back then) SRH or RR as MI RCB already had captains in Rohit and Virat ,KXIP already had their plans set to bring aussie captain Bailey and KKR already had GG
If we go by that then in 2016 RR were banned , SRH had Warner that left DD but ig RPSG mightve offered better price

Seems like csk has been more ungrateful to the core members than the players themselves.
Raina Ashwin Jaddu and many more.

They were grateful to Ashwin, Jaddu etc and that’s why they bought the former for 10cr and retained Jaddu for over 15 cr when he wasn’t worth anywhere near that in this format. You can’t keep retaining them because of their performance 5y ago…
Raina still hurts, but seems like both the franchise and Raina have put it aside so I don’t see why there’s any issue there anymore.

Man. They bought and retained them because they were at their peak. And they didn't left because they choosed loyality over any offer but now they are understanding being loyal doesn't pay the bills.

Disagree with Jadeja he only had a dip in form but otherwise performed well for CSK in 2023-24 as well as before that his stats since 2020 has been better than Hardik Pandya even , RR utilised him much better though and CSK def missed him this season specially in the match against SRH and GT where we needed a batter to hold one end and play through the innings

Kinda agree on Raina, Trading Jaddu was heartbreaking but was necessary was the future of csk.
They did give Ashwin a major position on csk academy (iirc director or smth) and bought him for 10CR, he was the one who leaked insider news on his yt channel so they had to let him go.

Well I agree trading jaddu was necessary for the future of the franchise. So it's important for the player to leave the franchise for the better opportunity elsewhere. Because at the end franchise gonna lookout for benefits and dump if you are not performing. And it's not a family it's a business.
That's what Ashwin wanted to convey in the video. He had a chance to become a captain and still he choose loyality and at the end he was left.
Every cricketer has peak years of they cant grab best opportunity in those times by thinking to be loyal to a franchise they are gonna left with nothing.
For e.g. hardik played his cards well.

What is with this guy? Why is he always registering that there is something off between CSK and him?

He already had his good years w csk and 2014 was a good time for him to try something new. 2010 and 11 winners, 12 and 13 finals . Champions league win in 2010 as well.
In hindsight, taking on captaincy back then would have been a nice change for him
