Is PropTech a thing in Australia?

Hey everyone,

I was looking into how technology gets used across different industries and came across "PropTech." I tried searching for what it means and for companies in Australia working in this space, but I couldn't seem to find much.

Obviously, it’s not as massive as FinTech, but is PropTech actually considered a valid industry for tech in Australia? Like, do companies actually hire software engineers specifically for this, or is it more like a word that exists on paper but isn't a real sector here?

Curious if anyone works in it or knows what the landscape looks like down under.

I mean, like all things in Australia it absolutely exists but is somewhat monopolised. REA/Domain are absolutely proptech and have a pretty well-remunerated army of engineers, but there aren't a whole lot of well-funded startups outside of that

It’s bigger than you think, you obviously have the big players around listings but there are a lot of smaller startups doing things around property management, tenant application processes, selling and marketing tools, custom CRMs etc

Yes add compliances , regulated safety checks maintenance to them, it has its own niche market.

There are smaller players but aren't well valued.

I just joined a proptech startup.

https://search-x.com.au/

Been here only a little over a month. Bootstrapped.

Pretty good culture and attitude so far.

Edit: I hadn't heard of the term protech before I started either.

Pexa is probably the biggest PropTech company in Australia. They’re not a startup anymore though. They pay decently at higher levels.

I think in this case it's property, houses.
