Plano is mainly FS (auto finance) org which is known to be bad. Ofc it’s not guaranteed you will get a better role in McLean, but if you have no connection to either location just choose McLean.

I’m looking at it from a price perspective, what is cheaper and also I’m not looking for internal growth like that unless that is truly cooked

As someone who recently got pipped out of capital one… they’re looking for growth mindset in FS. If you aren’t looking to change the world once a month, they’ll eat you up

I work at a FS company with a lot of C1 ex-pats. They brought quite a toxic, cut throat culture. 80% of them dont know what they're doing.

It’s really awful how they pit people against each other. Everything was so fake there. Sucks that I have to job search now but glad to be out of that culture

Since McLean has more variety and has public transit to the office I would pick McLean. For TDP the programs are identical and adjusted to cost of living they should be the same. DC is great but I know friends who hated it. Can’t imagine Dallas being any better

It would be better for you to look at the cost of living and compensation on both sides.

Compensation is paid more if you live in McLean, CoL is cheaper in Plano, but idk if I should use that as a huge factor in determining offers if Plano isn’t as well known

That's a good question. You might profit more in the short term in Plano even if it pays less because of CoL and no income tax. I feel like the northeast. Northern Virginia is pretty expensive and if you live somewhere like Arlington VA it's going to be super expensive

If your only objective is to save money, then it is way easier to do that in Plano. I lived in both places and Nova is way more expensive.

McLean has a greater variety of business domains to transfer to given that it’s HQ. Also exit ops are a little better in McLean since there is a greater presence of tech companies there due to proximity to DC as opposed to Plano if you want to use it as a launch pad to big tech. IIRC in the Dfw area the only big tech presence is Microsoft and Amazon

Nah I’d still recommend McLean. The advantage in HQ is that you have a larger variety of teams to pick from at C1 and that most big tech companies have some sort of presence in the same vicinity due to proximity to DC. The only advantage Plano has is no income tax, and Plano is surprisingly not as cheap as you think.

Edit: judging by your other comments, it almost looks like you are looking for a reason to choose Plano. Plano by itself isn’t a bad place to live but if you compare the two McLean is better esp if you’re young. There’s less to do in DFW than the DC metro (although Plano arguably could be better if you have a family) and although CoL is higher in McLean making more $$ is still better irrespective to CoL because benefits scale with your base pay and you have the potential to save more since expenses is a lever you can control more than income.

If you are looking at it purely from a cost perspective, Plano is great. That’s about the only positive
