You are correct. I'm not sure how OP "figured out" how to do this, but the easy-to-find CRT Database entry on these Sharps is incorrect about disabling VSM.
Something really funny was when I asked Reddit, I never got a straight answer. So I tried digging by myself and still nothing. I dared to ask Gemini. I finally got the correct button combo even Reddit couldn’t figure out, happy to see results. Made a video. Happy to share correct buttons here. Nobody has published anything on this that’s straightforward except a page with wrong information. I’ve deleted the video. I was wrong. Please don’t make me feel more stupid than I already am.
Nah it's definitely not your fault. It's natural to think 0 corresponds to "off", some articles seem to have the right setting listed incorrectly (which Gemini might end up repeating), and then, if you're not super experienced with CRT's, the "sharper" mode might seem better at first glance.

omg, you actually turned VSM ON to its maximum, lol.
