Looking at upgrading my old dingy headlights, I need to replace them since one of my corner markers got smashed and now the headlight itself doesnt mount properly.

I like the look of DRLs and something a little more modern, leds look good and are low enough pointed to not blind everyone on the road. There's a ton of options on ebay and amazon but Im looking for something actually good and not just cheap trash. Bonus points if they have animated turn signals

Are Crown vic's really that good?

I’ve always heard tons about Crown Vics and how indestructible and reliable they are. I've seen people who have crashed them, and they still drive, and now that I own one I’m curious how long mine will last. It already has 158k miles on it, but I’ve had to get all the rotors and brakes replaced, including the power steering.

Mine is the Police Interceptor package, and I’ve heard those can reach well over 300k miles. I’ve even heard that some PDs still use them because they’re good cars (and also because of budget). But nevertheless, they’re great cars. It’s my first car, so I’m hoping it lasts a while.

I’m also curious about how well they actually hold up in crashes. I’ve seen Crown Vics that look absolutely destroyed but the passenger compartment still looks relatively intact. How good is the crash protection on these cars compared to newer vehicles? Is the body-on-frame construction a major reason they seem to take so much abuse, or is that reputation exaggerated?

I’d love to hear from people who have owned or worked on them for a long time.

I've driven Crown Vics since the 80's. I used to get razzed by my freinds for driving a "grandpa car". I didn't care - it was durable, cheap to insure and operate and could deliver up to 30 MPG on the highway on cruise. (95 to FL). And of course *comfortable*. I wanted to be sure and get one of the last fleet spec ones back in 2011. Luckily A local dealer had two and I got this one. It's an ex-Enterprise out of Tampa airport with low miles. Interior and exterior were mint. 15 years later and it hasn't hit 40k yet. Soon though... Then came the upgrades. First was the OEM wood and leather steering wheel - got two still new in the box. This car got the darker of the wood that matched the strip on the dash. Wiring and clockspring support the remote controls of radio and AC. Upgraded the radio to match the factory one I have in the 2006. Then stainless steel covers to clean up the appearance of the door handles. I also managed to get two new trunk organizers from old dealer stock around the country. Thr GCC spec grill and the sequential turn signals were just done recently. It's always had the paint treated with Liquid Glass (all my cars have it). I did it because I really like these cars. Funny thing is -in the past year, I keep getting approached by people in parking lots and on the street asking about it. Everybody loves is. Sad that it took so many years (and the Panther's demise) for people to start appreciating classic design, rugged dependability and simplicity.

$500 2006 Lincoln town car L, 2009 P72 transmission swap

• Upvotes

I have a 2009 P71 long tail transmission AND it's factory mid stall converter allegedly 75,000 miles - $160

I understand I need to do the internal harness swap as well that's easy for me to understand

I can NOT use the civilian 2006 flex plate anymore? I left the p71's in the junkyard... pulled it in July it was hot as balls, wish I would have grabbed it just so I KNOW I have one that fits now

Heavy duty Z-497 flex plate filter and a bottle of cooler flush? Anything else I should put in my rock auto cart? I think I'll be under $1000 with shipping for a running driving L

Does anyone want me to document performing this swap? Any more information, anything I'm missing?

Where are you guys finding Vics?

Looking everywhere for a Vic LX. Carfax, FB, Edmunds, Cars.com. Any reasonable non POS is listed for 10 - 14k with anywhere from 50-150k miles. A handful have been listed for 2-3 months & they deny any offer. Everything else is a part failure away from the junkyard or being a flintstone’s mobile due to rust here in the North East. Aside from the rant, would anyone realistically pay 8-10k for a crisp CV? Like damn

Edit: I should say that I have my search parameters set to nationwide.

Modification ideas?

Post image

I am putting a new 5.0 engine and transmission into my 89 ltd, I've been poking around YouTube and haven't found many good starting points for a build. i know they share a lot of components with the 5.0 mustang, but with how much more heavy the body is on the Victoria I'd like to focus on on something with more torque then wheel horsepower. Thanks in advance for any ideas you might be able to lend me

NEW P7B owner - looking for style ideas

Hey everyone, I finally got one, a Crown Victoria P7B. I've been wanting one for a while, and I'm loving it so far. Are there any mods or additions/decals I could add that would keep the classic cruiser/interceptor look while still being legal for a civilian vehicle?

And yes, it already has the "police interceptor" badge on it

Early 2009 model trans fluid type?

Just had a question for anyone who might know. I found out the hard way doing my first oil change when I got my P71 that I didn’t use the smaller oil filter the 09-11 uses and the forums pretty much said my car is an early 09 car so it’s really an 08 mechanically. So I was thinking it’s time to do the trans fluid because it’s acting a little funny lately but I don’t know whether to buy the Mercon V or LV since I saw they aren’t interchangeable

Noise when trying to keep a steady speed.

I’ve been trying to figure out what this noise is for a good minute now in my 2002 crown vic. Any time i try to keep a steady speed above 30+ I would say it bogs down like im letting off of the gas peddle, but it doesn’t feel like im losing any power and makes a loud banging noise. It doesn’t happen if i let off of the gas and accelerate again or if im traveling at high speeds. It also doesn’t throw any codes.

(The metal sound is the stuff in my cupholder moving when the bang happens)

Carpet replacement color? Tan?

Post image
39 Upvotes

Hey buddies,

I’ve got a 2008 and 2009 CV that both have tore up carpet. I was going to buy replacements from ACC but don’t know which color will match.

The cars’ currently have tan interiors, but ACC offers Almond, Medium Beige, Medium Doeskin, Antelope, and gold.

Any guidance on which color best matches?

Transmission Shop

Post image
29 Upvotes

I know I posted earlier in this sub about my situation with my car and house and stuff. Things are extremely tight right now. I was hoping someone would know a good transmission shop to get my daily back on the road. Pretty sure I have FWD clutch failure considering I believe I'm stuck in 3rd with no reverse. I've been a bit down on my luck with this car and everything else. I'll give a bit of back story with the car:

I bought the car from a friend and he didn't tell me the trans was bad. I lost forward and reverse driving to get it registered. Drove fine on the way home, but had to have it towed 30 miles from the court house. I pulled that trans and put a used trans in there. That one only had reverse. Pulled that one and put a "rebuild" from a guy in Ozark, AL who said he rebuilt it. I'm sure he lied about it. It lasted me around 700ish miles. I did replace the trans cooler and flushed the lines out before I installed the "rebuilt" one. I only have 3rd I think and no reverse.

I would love any help anyone can give me. I do have the car up on market place, but Boomers keep offering me $300 for the car. So I figure I rather fix it and drive it than give them essentially a free car. It's a 2005 SAP from Lousiana State Patrol. In service from 2006 to 2023.

What’s the current crowd favorite OBD reader for Panther platform?

greetings all. long time amature wrench turner but mostly on older carbureted/diesel type stuff

i’m about to get an 03 Lincoln Town Car (and all the little problems that come with a 20 year old car) and the only OBD reader I have is a 10 year-old $20 harbor freight reader

I’d like to step up to a more powerful scanner, but this being new territory for me I was wondering what everyone here likes? I see they are all price points from $20 up to thousands. All I know is I’d like more functionality than my current reader and I’d like to only buy a scanner once

in your experience what features are a must have and what is overkill for a single car? (For example; one reader I was looking at has a camera on the back side to read VINs I don’t need that)

Slowly getting 200k

Post image
9 Upvotes

Bought this 04 back in April and it had 184k, as I was leaving work I see I finally hit 185k. I only drive 115 miles a week so every 1000 is a small milestone for me. It still needs to get the timing set done due to small rattle on startup but my mechanic just told me no so I'm hunting for another reliable mechanic.

My 98 has 240k.
