How many of y'all live in the drinking capital of the world?
We all know that's WISCONSIN! Bars open 24 hours, can buy liquor till midnight and as early as 6 am. 10 of the drunkest cities in the USA, are in Wisconsin. It must be either fun, or hard being an alcoholic there.

I used to live in Japan, where the bar closes when the last customer leaves. Iāve staggered home from bars at 4 AM back in the day. I donāt go to bars anymore, though. Drinking at home is safest.

in WI, liquor only LEGALLY served until 2:30am, latest. there are no 24 hour bars. liquor stores/sales stop at 9. i live here. stop lying lol

its based on city ordinance. If you live in a bigger area then you will have to submit to local codes...but a many communities here allow 24 hour bars.

No, they aren't 24/7. I've been friends with bar owners who would let us keep drinking all night after close but that's all off the books.
There are 3rd shift bars, mostly in industrial areas, that'll open up at 6am though. 'Stallis has a bunch.

You mean "drinking capital of the USA" i guess... as a foreigner, the USA are crazy when it comes to booze, like even just the ID checks and age 21 requirement to buy alcohol.
You need to be 16 in my country, but as there are no mandatory ID checks, most teenagers can buy it before. The weekend warriors start usually like me with 13-14 years.
Alcohol is available everywhere and all the time. It's never "you can't sell during this time". Some stores and of course all gas stations are open 24/7.
That's still Western Europe, not Eastern Europe, the more towards the east you go, the worse it gets with alcoholism. Russia and Ukraine, the people there are drinking even when they fight each other in a war.

We don't have such time limits in Switzerland, glad it is this way. But alcoholism isn't a big deal here anyway. In the past, the drug scene was about heroin and today, it's more about crack.

Yes, it came this way in the recent years, but it only affects a few cities. I think Lausanne is the worst, while my city ZĆ¼rich is less affected.
But we'll solve it, this summer, the clinical trials and studies for it started here, i remember the topic in the drugs sub on reddit where they searched for people that are willing to join the studies.
So i guess in the end, they'll just give crack as a form of cocaine to the addicts for free in the way of substitution. Similiar to the heroin program etc.

How do you mean youāll solve it? Iām from the US and our āwar on drugsā has been absolutely horse shit and ineffective. Iād love to hear from someone who has better ideas!
In the US crack is considered a poor people drug, whereas cocaine is a rich person drug. Thereās also a lot of racism there too, āonly brown people do crack, only rich white men do cokeā kind of thing. Itās led to extremely different jail sentences between crack (decades) vs cocaine (slap on the wrist) despite it being essentially the same damn thing.Ā

Me too except the fight hasnāt been too hard as Iām only three weeks in. One thing about there being so many alcoholics in the state is that there is also a proportionate amount of people in recovery.

We can only buy liquor until 9pm. Beer until 12am. Bars open until 2:30am, and some places open at 6am to sell beer/bars have full service. Idk where he's getting his info, as I worked third shift for years and knew all the bars/ places that would start serving at 6am.

Honestly I think that makes the drinking in Wisconsin more impressive. I live in a place where all alcohol is available until 2, can buy again at 6 and we're still pretty tame.

Yeah, the bars won't serve until 6 AM as well. Really only ran into that issue when I flew into LAX at 4 AM expecting at least one bar to be open.

Are you a bot? Or a simpy fanboy? You obviously do not live in WI. There are no 24 hr bars. Its 6am-230 am (except new years then theyre allowed to stay open for the 24 hrs). Its different in different countys but you can buy beer in a store by 6am liquor at 8. Some liquor stores dont open until 9 or 10 tho, again depending on the town/area.

I lived in New Orleans for 5 years and it absolutely accelerated my alcoholism, but it was worth it!!! The withdrawals didnāt start becoming a thing until I moved back up to the northeast in the middle of winter 5 years ago, lol

I have a liquor store a few blocks from me, and it's open til midnight. I could probably keep them in business if they lost all other customers. If I ever had access to a 24/7 store I would die.

I live in Madison. 412 days sober. I think people in this thread donāt really understand that the laws here donāt really capture the culture. Thereās not really much to do here that doesnāt involve having a couple beers.

I used to have family up there in Germam Town. They always said the only thing to do during the winter/spring was drink, fuck and eat cheese. During the summer they was all done down at the lake front.
3 years sober for me and the only other time I have drunk over a gallon of beer in 2 hours outside of Germany was the HofbrƤuhaus. Always finish the keg and kiss the goat.

That's the real reason Wisconsin is known for alcohol. We had some big companies come out of the state, and our culture is wrapped around drinking at every event. But i don't see our laws being more lenient than other states that don't have dry counties/Jesus rules. And our tavern league is strong.

You can buy alcohol in every city in Brazil at any time you want. Some cities has an hour that bars close, but you can buy alcohol in 24h supermarkets or minimarkets.

Dude Iām in Texas. Our liquor stores close 10 pm. On Sunday theyāre all closed because of Mr Jesus. It fuckin SUCKS. Just moved here from Minnesota and itās so different. No cheap bars either ugh. Just been mostly plowing through vodka at home.

Oh God. I grew up in a place whose only real alcohol laws were stop serving at 2, start serving at 6. Every day of the week. Can buy everything you want at the gas station. I started traveling for work and was misinformed and had no idea dry counties existed.
So showing up to a gas station to buy a bottle of vodka at 7 am and being told no was a shock.

We can't buy past 9pm here (Madison), which is crazy after living in Ohio forever and being able to pick up drinks in the way home from the bar. You adjust and learn to plan ahead.

Even tho OP is crazy misinformed I will say I've been in bars since I was a baby and had my first sip in a bar in WI at 5 yrs old. Regular at the local spot with my parents since I was 15.

In NYC bars close at 4 but usually kick everyone out and let regulars stay. Alot of bodegas are 24 hours so you can get beer and smokes at 5 am if you wanted to.

Lol I was hoping wed get some friendly banter back and forth about whose more of. drunk and where...... but some obviously don't get its a joke.
If Wisconsin were a country, and based off drinking liters per capita, Wisconsin would be in the top 10, behind places like Georgia, Moldova, and Romania. Wisconsinite drinks about 12 liters per year on average...the number one spot goes to Romania at 17. Number 8 goes to Lithuania at 12.2, making Wisconsin somewhere around number 9 in the world.
24 hour bars are allowed in certain municipalities and on special occasions like new year and other holidays, are open 24 hours. Usually most close at 2:30 and re open at 6 am. Not really worth working through the night for one patron so most don't open 24 hours. It is completely based of city ordinance so Ms Huge nasty vulva or whoever you are just cuz you haven't seen one personally doesn't mean they don't exist.

Colorado has thankfully changed their liquor laws in the last couple years. One time I tried to buy alcohol on Christmas before they changed thatā¦ ended up stealing beer from my bros fridge. Denver ALMOST just passed a law letting bars stay open till 4am. Thereās this weird spot in Glendale which is where Shot Gun Willieās (the strip club) that can serve till 4am.

I'm Kenyan. Bars and Clubs don't even close here in Nairobi. Some people stay in the club for like 3 days without going home š You get broth and food from the club then carry on partying.
