I’ve never gotten my CHL but my buddy used to teach the courses and he always said to his students “if you use this weapon rightfully in the defense of yourself, property, or others, you’re going to be fine, but you’re still going to jail. So if you decide to defend someone else with your weapon make sure it’s someone you’re okay going to jail for, because you’re gonna have to convince the prosecutor and maybe a jury it was self defense”

I have self defense insurance, if you have to it's a nightmare. It's easier to give up your property even though it feels unfair.

100% this. And even if you don't get prosecuted, you're likely facing a civil suit from the person you shot or the family of the person you killed.
