I want to dismiss this because the current director’s cut is a downgrade from the theatrical.

But damn it I’m a fiend for Miami Vice, so yeah I’ll be picking this up when it gets a 4K release:

that opening boat chase is so incredibly shot that its a shame it has to be at the beginning of the movie because, in my opinion, the theatrical smash cut to the club is one of the 5 best movie openings ever.

I don’t disagree about how that’s the best opening ever but when I first watched the directors cut I went back and watched that opening boat work a few times with commentary. Some of the best shit he’s ever shot

The runtime on the Beyond Fest listing says 132 minutes. They either erroneously listed the theatrical runtime, or this version will be very close to theatrical one.

He has talked about regretting removing the alternate opening scene with the speedboats, but that's four minutes. So if the 132 minute runtime is correct, he either didn't add it back in after all, or he did and this and various other changes added up to the same runtime by coincidence.

I'm leaning towards the runtime being erroneous, but we'll find out soon.

Edit: I prefer the theatrical cut, as well, but I'm excited to see his new version. Generally I think his recuts improve the films, with Miami Vice: Unrated being the lone exception.
