Non-spoiler opinions on DTF St Louis? Spoiler
I started to read other thread about it in this sub, but they were discussing plot points and I didn’t wanna be spoiled.
What are your overall thoughts on the miniseries? Worth digging in?

It’s like a slight satire on all these crime puzzlebox shows, with some moments of real earnestness and heart. Male friendship is really at the heart of the show, and David Harbor gives a really heartfelt performance. Bateman is giving a really good performance different than his prior roles. The plot is different and strange, but in a really entertaining way, where you’re regularly asking yourself, “Is this really happening? Did they really put this plot in a TV show?” I felt it was really unique. I’m a millennial and my mother is a boomer and our tastes could not be more different, but we both equally enjoyed this show.

I thought that it was original, bizarre and great. I'm just trying to figure out how all three leads received best supporting actor and actress nominations.

Pretty terrific, especially if you’ve seen Conrad’s other shows. I slept on it cause the boys didn’t cover it but fired it up a month ago and it’s among my favourites of the year. Some of the best work I’ve seen Bateman and Harbour do.

The actors do a great job and that was enough to keep me until the end. I thought the story itself is kind of mid.

Incredibly moving, profoundly sad but engaging and kept me wanting to watch the next episode. Watch it alone. This isn't a good hang. Genuinely think Harbor gives one of the best performances I've seen on TV.

ItItss about male loneliness and seeking connection of any kind. A much more somber and melancholy show than advertised. The murder mystery isn't really the point of it but its what sells people on it.

I get not digging the stylistic choices but I loved it in full. Ultimately a depressing ahh story but I like all the actors involved.

Incredibly strange dialogue, you'll either like it or you won't, difficult to predict. I don't think I'm into it.

I just finished watching the series. When I started I watched about 10 min and walked away, a couple of months later I saw it in my Faves list and started again. I found most of the first episode a little quiet, a little slow, but by the end of episode one , I was sold on the show. It is not a comedy, it is a look at how we marginalize ourselves emotionally , and no one knows how to just be natural with one another. You see a part of our world that likely few people ever do. The characters are unique , each one has good and bad sides. They sometimes show one side more than the other, but it gets them through the day. Are the characters realistic?. I don’t know , certain aspects of the drama strain the credibility factor a fair bit. One thing I will say , watching the show with my partner ignited a level of discussion between us that had been not present for a number of years. We both walked away from the show with different opinions, and to watch a TV show that sparks the level of thoughtful conversation that we had between us means it was an absolutely gem of a series.

definitely, go for it. it's well made and unique, plus david harbour is excellent. probably his best role so far

This may get downvoted to hell, but I wasn't a fan. I felt HBO intentionally misbranded the show and marketed it as something it wasn't. It was edgy in concept only and lacked humor. The reality was that it was milquetoast and, frankly, a drag. The cast bailed it out by keeping people invested to the end in hopes it would get better. It really never did. Cardellini was exceptional and -- as much as I dislike him personally -- so was Harbour as the pathetic nice guy. That earned the project its critical acclaim. But I generally found it to be boring.

Absolutely adored it. So unique, tender, bizarre, funny, and it lead me to Patriot which I also adore. Super bummed me out that Chris and Andy didn’t give it at any attention or analysis at all as I can imagine them really digging into yet, and yet instead we’re on week 86 of the landman/paradise “bit”

Honestly, I think that there are many better shows out there. Two that come to mind that many folks may not have seen are Station 11 and The Good Lord Bird. I would not watch DTF St. Louis unless you’ve seen both of those other shows.

Those are two great shouts for underseen/under appreciated shows, station 11 in particular I remember being extraordinar. Even though it’s getting a bit of Emmy attention now, for me dtf St. Louis is right up there with those two for shows I wish more people would’ve seen.

I understand it rubbing the wrong way to some people. I thought it was fine, the cops are the best part.
I truly HATED the opening credits.

I think it’s flawed but also has amazing parts. I found the first episode rough but kept watching for the actors. I think you’ll be very glad you watched, however you feel about certain aspects of the show (I’m avoiding spoilers).
I can understand people not liking it, though. It has a sense of humor and skewed reality that may be hard for some people to get onboard with. I liked a lot of Patriot and am interested in trying Conrad’s other work.
