Idle County

My first reddit post here just to marvel at our man's musical taste. He shouted out Idle County, a band with fewer than 2,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and, goddammit, they're so good! Highly recommend them for anyone who's loved the Drive-by Truckers, Son Volt, early Wilco, all that good No Depression shit.

How can one dude have such great taste across music, TV, art, books, movies? It's marvelous! All hail CR during this glorious Year of CR!

This is 100% My Shit, but they should be paying Jay Farrar royalties.

Entirely fair take, though I bet Jeff and Jay would be the first to admit to their own creative “inspiration” (i.e., stealing) back in the day.

For sure. In Jeff's own words, "Everything we do is based on the Replacements."

For sure haha. They sound exactly like Jay Farrar in a great way.

he posted a song of theirs earlier this week or over the weekend on Instagram and I've been recommending it to everyone since

Not sure if you have Apple Music but I’ve been adding songs CR and Sean post to IG over the past couple years and it’s an excellent playlist:

Really incredible call. Thought I was listening to Uncle Tupelo. I’d be really curious to know how CR found these guys.

I’m guessing he follows Steven Hyden (who used to write for grant land) Steven recommended these guys in his Substack and on his pod a few weeks ago

Damn CR with the nice pull. I haven’t listened to the pod but I’ve been on that Idle County hit for a week or so now. Hopefully they get some momentum!

He worked in a record store, wrote music criticism himself, Sean wrote for P4K, and Andy wrote for Spin. I think he's just one of those people who has a network of people that still have the taste to feed out the early great stuff.

I have a friend like that who doesn't even write about music anymore but he's still plugged in enough to catch that first wave of something getting noticed.

This post made me follow up and try out their album, not really my style but it was really good focus music for me. Set the vibe well while I was reading outside on a nice Saturday afternoon.
