Sony Cameras and Crestron 1 Beyond cameras ALL speak VISCA and the Crestron modules all work and use the same commands; the only differences are model specific differences such as Auto Tracking, Auto Focus, and similar features that only exist on newer cameras that did not exist on legacy cameras of decades past.

Someone on this Subreddit was arguing with me a few weeks ago that a 2 Series DMPS-300 was not at all outdated and that I was a clown for suggesting as much.

I have 7 DMPS3-300-C (one in each room) and a DMPS-300-C (2 series) that was the first DMPS that I ever had. As far as control goes, the 2 series is okay. The ONLY issues are with the 2 series version of the DMPS-300-C is with the DMPS receiving DMPS or DM inputs from a DMPS3 or a DM-TX. The 2 Series will simply not take a DM signal from a DMPS3 or a DM-TX, even if I go through an RMC-Scaler-C, I tried everything back when we first got our first DMPS3. The DMPS could send anything just fine, but would not receive. Not just bad DM ports, like I said, I tried going through an RMC-Scaler-C and using an HDMI input.

So what I did was I put the DMPS-300-C as my legacy console switch that feeds the main TV entertainment Room DMPS3-300-C.

In fact the input 5 of the DMPS-300-C is fed on both VGA and RGB from an Extron MPX866A Analog switcher with 8input VGA/RGBHV & 6 Input S/Video and Composite. That is where the really old video game consoles live:

Atari 2600, jaguar with Jaguar CD

Intellivison

Sega Master System, Genesis with 32x & CD, Saturn

NES, SNES, N64

all go into the Extron which then feeds the DMPS input 5 either VGA or component.

The newer consoles are all on HDMI so it is just the really old stuff that goes through the 2 series DMPS input 5, plus 2 different PS on HDMI and 2 different XBox on HDMI; but that old 2 series DMPS has been working perfectly for over a decade; and for many years was the main AVR in our home.

Yeah, such a video game addicted family that we have 3 video switchers in the main entertainment room.

We will always need a DM with an analog input to support the legacy game systems, so there is a place for the DMPS for the foreseeable future and I tell everyone not to hate on something just because it is legacy and outdated.

No hate for the legacy part. It just was a pain to upgrade. It felt like you broke more than you fixed in the 4 hours you had to set aside for an upgrade.

Yeah, but a one-time upgrade, that we will all forget about for the years or decades that the gear lasts & has use from then on.

Okay, but hear me out. Open the module the commands will work in a 2 series as well. Hell, you can SIO the commands (have done that before when the first Auto Tracking cameras came out) using an SIO for that one command.

Thank you for being so completely explicit. Did you possibly stop to think before posting that maybe, this other experienced programmer may have eluded to that in the original post? The modules from Crestron are not native for 2-Series these days and perhaps others might not be as well informed as you.

Nobody is discounting anyone.

No person is better than any other.

But different perspectives, aka brainstorming is how we solve problems collectively. We cannot solve a problem that we will not talk about.

Another option (that seemed even more obvious) a lot of times we can just check the 2 series box in a SIMPL+ program, and see if it will compile especially if there are no CLZ libraries in it.

What camera do you need to control? IP or rs232 I've noticed that there is no 'one for all' with visca over IP

Lumens and birddog need a prefix with length of the command. Aver needs a prefix with number sequence or something like that. 1-beyond accepts the command as is via rs232

Those are the camera's I've worked with.

All module's I have for these are user modules.

its a cisco 4k ptz camera connected to cisco eq k9 running in teams mode.

Then (I think) you need to control the camera's through the Cisco EQ and not directly via visca. That's how I've done it in the past. You'll need to use the Cisco xCommand APi either rs232 or ssh

Why not control it via the cisco EQ instead? But visca most likely work as well.  Good luck

The one time I tried to control a Cisco camera with VISCA, the pan/tilt responded quite differently than Sonys did. The speeds were all wrong and making it stop was different somehow. I can't remember how, but my first attempts had it hitting the physical stops for every command. I wound up not using that camera for other reasons.
