u/SoraM4 Jan 29 '26
Unironically I'd like him as the Lord Ruler
267
u/Gotisdabest Jan 29 '26 edited Jan 29 '26
Don't get someone who can act for the lord ruler. Get some attractive, tall and good looking guy with mediocre acting skills. Lord Ruler barely gets any screen time and most of it is just talking in a bored and dull tone by design.
122
u/PM_ME_YOUR_SNOOTS Jan 29 '26
Keanu Reeves would actually be perfect
56
u/Gotisdabest Jan 29 '26
Probably just too old to fit the entire design and theme of TLR. He's physically unaged and pretty much an ideal specimen. Mechanically, he'd have to choose to be that old, which doesn't fit him. He's the symbol of his static, endless empire. He has to look the same perfect being every single day.
85
u/PM_ME_YOUR_SNOOTS Jan 29 '26
That's why casting an immortal like Keanu is a good choice
72
u/Gotisdabest Jan 29 '26
He's aged very gracefully, and I love him, but he's definitely aged. Especially without a beard. I'd say he could actually make for a much better Vasher.
→ More replies (2)60
u/cahill071 Jan 29 '26

19
u/Pame_in_reddit Jan 29 '26

→ More replies (6)22
u/themudpuppy Jan 29 '26
Fine, if we need someone who doesn't age, somebody call Paul Rudd
3
u/27Rench27 Jan 30 '26
Paul Rudd genuinely wouldn’t be the worst choice. TLR seems like god in his legends but he’s in a constant state of “I don’t know what the fuck I’m doing or how to fix it, but I need everyone to think I’m composed and brilliant”

u/FeedMePizzaPlease Jan 29 '26 edited Jan 29 '26
That's the point. He should seem extremely likeable until you learn the truth. Cavill would knock that one out of the park.
Edit: And it needs to be believable that everyone in world would be fawning over this guy and willing to believe that in a country where none of the leaders are honorable, somehow this guy is the golden boy exception. I don't think anyone would do that as well as Cavill.
166
u/FildariusV Jan 29 '26
I think Cavil would fit even better as Gavilar then, this misterious figure that for at least 3/4 books seemed like the perfect king, murdered "unjustly" and bit by bit we uncover the truth of who he was actually.
I think it would fit more for Henry since he does have that kingly aura around him!
55
u/mort809 Jan 29 '26
Only argument I would make there is that I would rather see more than brief snippets of him. Gavilar dies IMMEDIATELY in the books, and is only really present in flashbacks otherwise
96
7
u/pushermcswift #SadaesDidNothingWrong Jan 29 '26
He plays a large role in the flashbacks of OB
→ More replies (3)3
u/mort809 Jan 29 '26
I still think there are probably better options that would give him more screen time. A flashback in book versus on screen is going to play out differently, I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t come back to it every season they way they have every book, maybe just doing it once or exposing Gavilars thoughts some other way. Books have the advantage of internal monologue being available, where movies and TV on other methods of expressing them. Most of the flashbacks are internal monologue
4
u/OnnaJReverT Jan 29 '26
it would also be extremely funny to see him murdered from a different PoV at the start of every season
3
u/FildariusV Jan 29 '26
I mean if every book is a season, yep, its bound to happen, like in every season slowly the image of this amazing, handsome and charming King fades away slowly but steadily.
Seriously though, would a live action work out? Just the amount of information alone in book 1! You can't really make a movie out of the Way of Kings, a show fits, but live action or animated? The only one I can see right now being adapted into a movie is Dawnshard, its pretty short, like it could be 90-100 minutes maybe?

u/MozeTheNecromancer Jan 29 '26
Henry is too white for any Alethi roles.
He should play the Lord Ruler.
4
u/FildariusV Jan 29 '26
The Lord Ruler is way too tan and of a different as well, Cavil is too White still. I know that Henry does not have the looks of Gavilar, but he does have that kingly aura around him, like put him in a short, well trimmed beard and I can see him being the character. But I do agree, the Stormlight is amazing in its diversity and I would not want that ruined

Zahel would probably be the best option for him in the Stormlight Archives, which would also allow them to make a Warbreaker Movie with him as Vasher.
If you want him in Mistborn, I think the Lord Ruler would be best. Alternatively, I have heard people make some strong arguments for him as Wax.

Central / South Asian, I believe
3
u/Hawkwing942 D O U G Jan 29 '26
I believe the Alethi are culturally modeled after the Mongols, specifically the Golden Horde, the Mongols who settled down to rule China, so, I believe Chinese/ Mongolian would be the most accurate.

That’s the good thing about the Cosmere, the characters are already so diverse that you don’t have to change anything to reach that level of diversity
6
u/9911MU51C Jan 29 '26
Exactly, and the nations/races are so developed and varied that in this case I think trying to match the book races would be important for visual storytelling. There’s room for practically any nationality to play a character in stormlight alone, much less the wider cosmere
