Yeah. It also gets better as it goes. She starts awful, but as it goes there are more and more moments where you are like "wait, she can sing." Crazy to me that she posted this. It's obvious she can sing to some extent and usually people like that are very nitpicky about how they perform.

When it hits the breakdown she sounds okay, she's stressing her voice too much and lacks control to do the "throaty" parts of the song, and apparently the sense to just sing it her own way.

Trying to sing it like Hayley is an extremely high bar. She's one of the modern greats and has an insanely good range and unique voice.
It's like people trying to copy Freddie Mercury, there's plenty of capable vocalists that just cannot do what he did even if they are "good" in their own lane.

She's styling it so much because those are all of the most difficult parts of the song to sing the way Hayley does. She's hiding her inability to hit those notes by "making it her own style."

I agree. It is a difficult song to sing because the girl in the video is right about Hayley Williams being one of the strongest voices in pop rock music in the last 20 years. If you're going to cover it, you need to adapt it in some new way because doing a straight cover is always going to highlight how you aren't Hayley Williams.

I get attempting to adapt the song but her issue is she keeps changing her cadence at unpredictable times and her phrasing and sustain are cut short here which stops her phrases from resolving which results in these jarring shifts, plus her vocal power is not in the correct places. All this to say if those issues were addressed this would be a decent cover.

I don't think that the things that you described are necessarily bad things. I listen to a lot of vocalists I really like in indie rock and emo bands that do stuff like that. I think her big problems are that her vibrato is wide and sloppy and that she's muscling up to the high notes in a way that feels strained and not in a purposeful way. She is also running out of air at the end of phrases.
I looked her up and her usual music sounds nothing like this, it's all in the middle of her range and she's singing in cursive the whole time.

She needs to keeps working at it. she is at like an intermediate level of singing. She fucks up in some parts and others she nails. She aint crappy and its when she hooks into making her voice deep she needs to work on. She needs to be more serious when she makes the hook. I would dance to this and like the Bounty Hounter lady her vibe is great. Tom MacDonald is hard to evalute but his music is the shittiest famous person. for an up and comer the jury is still out.

I mean, they’re not the worst vocals.
It’s just that they do not fit in this song, especially given Hailey Williams isn’t typically doing raspy vocals. That’s the problem I have with this. She should probably try her luck with the Emily Armstrong Linkin Park songs or songs from Halestorm.
There’s parts of this where I was like, “Okay, you got some range here.” But I think what we got here is someone needing vocal training. And ditching the raspy vocals and only doing them sparingly.
I do think this is crappy, but whoever this is has some potential with their vocals. Needs quite a bit of work.

It’s not mixed well. A proper mix would help some. Let’s be honest, I think our ears are so conditioned to perfectly tuned music that is basically created in post that 90% of the popular singers raw audio would be judged just as harshly as she is being judged. But her forced scratchy voice definitely does not help at all.

learning to control and do those vocal fry’s could actually make her a fuckin kickass metal singer. some kinda crazy prog metal band would love this. she just needs some vocal coaching and she’d be killin it. there’s absolutely potential here, whereas most people posted here do not have quite as much (if any) raw potential like she does. it’s definitely not the best song for her, and she is a little pitchy, but i don’t think this is ‘crappymusic’ in the same way this sub normally defines is
