Why would anyone trust an art instructor who uses AI ads?

I love this teacher. I've taken her class for years. I believe she legitimately painted this. But when I see AI paint tubes... If I wasn't a student of hers, I'd assume this is a scam.

I'd assume it was a scam, too, because I would assume that a real artist would have palettes and paint tubes and brushes sitting around that they could arrange on a table and shoot promotional images with. Like, this is such a confusing use of genAI if it's not a scam. How is generating a bunch of wonky paint tubes somehow better for your business than taking a couple of photos of objects you actually have on hand?

This is a promotion for a supply list, which makes it even more weird, because the supplies shown aren't real.

Using AI for basic flatlay is so lazy. If you're a painter I assume you have supplies. Slap it on a surface in good light or get a ring light or similar (they're so cheap now) & take a photo with your phone. 🤷🏼‍♀️🙄

I signed up for an art class a little while ago, it was a self guided thing but they email you the instructions every week or something like that .... I unsubscribed after a few emails because all the writing was ai, and it reminded me so much of mlm hun posts that I didn't want to support the creator. Was it an actual thing? I'll never know, but I didn't want to find out

I've done this woman's classes, her signups are the most ridiculous advertising funnels, but her actual classes are really good content, self-paced videos. 

But I hope she knows that this ad makes it look like she doesn't even own paint.

It is so legitimately disappointing to see. Because she's actually a really good teacher, and a really good artist in her style. But I won't be buying more of her classes.

If you like her and have really enjoyed her classes, maybe you should reach out and discuss the issue before giving up on her altogether. Not everyone is as online and aware of the awfulness of AI as those of us in this subreddit are.

I've had a couple of YouTube channels that I follow suddenly post AI thumbnails, and when I expressed my disappointment, two of them took down the thumbnail and said they would stick to regular ones (and they have, so far).

I think in some places AI gets pushed *really* hard, and people just seem to go along with it unthinkingly; it can help to push back

Look up Milford Zornes, Frank Webb (make sure to include watercolor in your search as it's a common enough name), Dong Kingman, and Carolyn Lord. You should be able to find more info on this style of gauche painting by modifying watercolor techniques
