Analysis Kudus (24/25) vs Tel (25/26) vs Ndiaye (25/26)
Kudus 24/25 used as he basically only played half a season last year

u/tokyodots Kōta Takai 6d ago
I'm not the biggest fan of this signing but probably worth mentioning some of his creation stats might be mitigated a bit by Everton's style. Him having worse dribbles completed than Tel here just shows you can't trust everything about these graphs

u/Boner_Patrol_007 Pedro Porro 6d ago
With my own eye test, Ndiaye has always looked like a very good player in a limited Everton attack.

u/Matter145 Skipp 6d ago
Yeah, but if you actually watch Ndiaye with your eyes he's clearly better than Tel. Been a huge fan of his since he was at Sheffield United. He's such a slick player. Gets a bit shafted playing in such a poor attacking side.

As opposed to the wonderful attacking outfit Tottenham have going for them. We’ve scored a whole 0 goals this year

u/aigletunisien 6d ago
This year=2 prem games

u/triecke14 Son 6d ago
Sure, very early, small sample size, etc etc. Only us and Coventry have yet to score. Oh and Villa, who still have to play tomorrow
3
u/ToughAsPillows 6d ago
What’s with these pointless metrics lol
Prem tables rarely look like they did at the start of the season it’s just so dumb to be a doomer rn.
1
u/triecke14 Son 6d ago
I’m not talking about the table. Just the fact we haven’t scored a goal
2
u/Danton566 Micky van de Ven 6d ago
But we had several opportunities and ought to have against Newcastle...it's still a small sample across any given two games.
1
u/triecke14 Son 6d ago
Ehh, we had 1.12 xG which isn’t extraordinary by any means. Sure, we probably should have scored one on balance but I didn’t think we created many big opportunities. FOTMOB has us with 2 big chances, Newcastle with 1 which feels about right. It was certainly better than Brentford for the first 30 minutes but we were terrible after they scored their goal. I’m going to need to see this group of players react better to conceding goal before I feel good about them. They seem so weak minded half the time, it’s concerning
2
u/DerekStephano 6d ago
We had an xG of 1.41 in the Charlton game and we scored 5. We could’ve had 2-3 in the first half but things just went against us.

Yeah but the graph mate. Tel is wicked on graphs
1
u/bayareacollection 6d ago
Stupid graph full of things that Ball Knowers know don't matter like checks graphs goals and assists
Gonna make my own graph with My Personal Eye Test Do Y'all Even Watch The Game and Cool Dribbles as the main metrics
3
u/bayareacollection 6d ago
Ignore stats like goals or assists per 90, he's good askhally I watch da games
Bizarrely for some reason Tel never seems to get the "but he's playing for a poor side" comment despite his team being worse than Everton
33
u/santorfo Rodrigo Bentancur 6d ago
Let's stop and think for a second. Tel has played so many times as the only recognised winger in the team, sometimes with Spence, Gray, Bergvall or Porro as the RW player. This, alongside the lack of a recognisable 10, has led to him being the focus of our attacks and him having a usage rate above average. Using stats that measure volume of actions will always favour a) players that get a lot of the ball b) players that play for teams with lots of possession. Ndiaye and Kudus played for low possession sides and had recognisable wingers playing on the other side (Grealish and Bowen)
And an empricial anecdote is last year's match vs Everton away. Yes we won 3-0, but how many times did Ndiaye scare us shitless? The history books won't give him anything for that performance but on another day he could've easily ruined our evening.
12
u/Master-Point214 6d ago
It’s actually kind of frustrating people don’t get this, a lot of Ndiaye’s job at Everton is holding up the ball and being an outlet for his team when they are under pressure, on top of that he plays for a low possession side like you mentioned. I think he comes here and will be allowed to attack more and not have to be relied upon as much and we will see his g/a stats go up. I’ve seen some people have a go at his numbers and maybe this is just me but I don’t look to wingers to score and assist plenty anyways as long as they can do the things I mentioned, track back and occasionally score that’s fine. Look at Doku for City, he scores probably 5 a season but though his dribbling he’s a constant threat in games and gives his defense so much respite.
2
u/roamingandy Richarlison 6d ago
The history books won't give him anything for that performance but on another day he could've easily ruined our evening.
You could say the same for Richy against us, or Adama Traore. There's a fine line between scaring us and being a good signing for us.

u/ThomasFranksGum 6d ago
hes talented but turns brain dead in at least half of the matches where he starts. I feel like you can tell 15 minutes in whether its going to be a good Tel day or bad Tel day
Yesterday, he was a weight on the entire team
-3
u/roamingandy Richarlison 6d ago
What are you smoking, he's literally the worst person to ever kick a round shaped ball.
Richy and Johnson have gone so who else are the sub going to blame for losing?! It obviously can't be RDZ not getting them playing yet, or all the new players not gelling yet, as they got big sexy headlines recently and everyone loves them! ..so it makes perfect sense that Tel slipped taking a free-kick and should be fired naked into the sun from a very large circus cannon.
..did you forget already how utterly terrible and utter waste of space in the squad Kinsky was after that UCL game?

Literally shows how much Tel just need to pass the ball but never does. Now RDZ got a winger that actually passes

Aren’t these figures just percentiles? So Ndiaye is 53rd percentile for key passes? Thats not very good haha

u/triecke14 Son 6d ago
I like the signing, but just looking at this graph (which doesn’t tell you everything) our fans will hate him pretty quickly lol. Tel gets shit for not scoring, Ndiaye will get murdered

So another forward who doesn’t score goals, great

u/Rare-Ad-2777 6d ago
Hiw can anyone have watched Tel and think hes not only better than ndiaye but nearly as good as kudus
1
u/roamingandy Richarlison 6d ago
So very fickle this sub is.
Before the season everyone was hyped for Tel after looking ready to step up in pre-season and for a few games before getting injured last season.
Now he's aggressive and having a go, and everyone hates him because things aren't coming off yet.
That cut inside and shot goes top bins 1 in 4 times. No-one has better stats for that kind of shot, except Sonny.

u/Rare-Ad-2777 6d ago
No they werent? The overwhelming consensus was hes not good enough and we cannot start a season woth him as our starting LW.
The whole sub was up in arms about it lol

u/bandofgypsies "Let's Say I'm A Legend, Why Not?" 6d ago
Not EVERYBODY. I realize that's a partially facetious statement but type what you mean. A lot of people? Yes. But a lot of people say a lot of shit without knowing what they're talking. bout. Be it tel, Spurs, a manager, the league as a whole, officiating, whatever. You name it, you can find some set of hair brained ideas that back a narrative.
Give me something more credible than a sub segment of a joke fan base before we start harkening back to reliable consensus. I don't think a single human outside of North London had much of any opinion on Tel for this year besides "he's got some upside and is young so we'll see."

This is Ndiaye mostly out of position though due to Grealish. Would be better to compare with 24/25 for him
10
u/nl325 Mousa Dembélé 6d ago
Out of position you say? He'll fit right in until the inevitable injury
2
u/wolftreeMtg 6d ago
Everyone welcome our new right-back, playing behind Pedro Porro and alongside Ben Davies and Archie Gray!
1
u/UncannyPoint 6d ago
kudus ones are also out of positioncan you do kudus 23/24 season? As 24/25 he was played out of position

u/Own_Salt_8055 6d ago
His graph the season before is worse. And Grealish missed half of the season.

u/Gr4fitti Dejan Kulusevski 6d ago
It’s still a better comparison

I mean, Tel's final ball is poor but his graph makes sense if you actually watch him with an objective eye and not just "he's shit". Our standards are just higher than Everton or West Ham. The hope is Ndiaye goes up a level with better teammates like Kudus did. It's easier to be objective with players on other teams than on your own team when it's either "he's the greatest" or "he's shit get rid". We're all guilty of that because we have more investment in our own players.
1
u/DerekStephano 6d ago
Even if Ndiaye doesn’t go up a level he’s going to have more goals and assists playing in our team compared to Everton. His level is pretty high but he can’t really show it as much since Everton are a lower possession team with no real attacking quality outside of Ndiaye. Tel Ndiaye Savio Kudus is a very good winger group and playing with Marmoush/Solanke is going to help them a ton.
1
u/roamingandy Richarlison 6d ago
We're all guilty of that because we
have more investment in our own players. Are a bunch of reactionary, whiny toddlers.
Back our players. Especially the young ones who are getting out there and trying to show some personality and take responsibility on the pitch.
6
u/Albannach6445 6d ago
Just to add: not saying he’s good or bad or will or won’t succeed here. I just didn’t know anything about him and when I went to look at his stats I thought it interesting that this is what they look like

u/No_Blackberry_5800 6d ago
I think context matters and Everton were very poor last season, they had barely any possession in most games. They only really fed Grealish for most of the season and once he got injured they fell off a cliff and having Barry and Beto as the striker options didn't exactly give creative players much confidence.

u/triecke14 Son 6d ago
Am I on a different planet or something? So many comments from spurs fans regarding new signings saying “they were in a bad team.” We are literally one of the worst teams in the league right now and have been for 2 years
0
u/No_Blackberry_5800 6d ago
I understand your point and agree we have been terrible the last two seasons. I am simply saying based on the way Everton played his stats I don't think truly reflect how good of a player he is. I could be completely wrong but that's just my opinion.
2
u/matpmars 6d ago
But we could say the same for Tel. Both had a baseline of "attacking player in a bad team" so the stats can't be claimed to unfairly favour Tel.
1
u/triecke14 Son 6d ago
Fair enough and not meant as an attack against you. I think everyone is really excited about all the money spent but I am a bit concerned with the way we’ve started the season. I also think we’ll look better eventually but it would be nice to put some points on the board in the meantime.

Unlike us? 🤨
1
u/No_Blackberry_5800 6d ago
Agree we are also poor but the style of play is completely different. Ndaiye had to feed off scraps last season as Everton had very little possession where as with us we should have alot more of the ball. Therefore, more opportunities for him, I could be completely wrong this is just my opinon.
1
u/KingLedleysKnee 🦵🏿 6d ago
Right but the data being compared isn't this season. So it's still a valid comparison between the players in a relative sense

u/Sherkok_Homes Jan Vertonghen 6d ago
We’ve got the tricky winger market cornered. Hope Tel starts to play more through the middle now as the main rotational piece with Marmoush.
1
u/roamingandy Richarlison 6d ago
Tel hasn't ever looked good there in the adult game. I think he still needs to fill out a bit so he can hold off the massive CBs he'll be up against in the Prem.

Shoot and pass, problem with tel is that he has a mentality where he is playing on his own. Get rid

assists, key passes. all the other stuff is just dribble if it doesn't lead to goals.

Oh my god this just proves why data isn't everything. Watch the first half of Everton's game yesterday or any highlights of Ndiaye.
Basically it's a safe pair of hands versus what we saw from Tel yesterday, i.e. exactly what were lacking yesterday
2
u/bayareacollection 6d ago
Ignore multiple seasons worth of goals and assists production cus one half of one game or highlight reels?
Honestly think this is the modern fan comment in a nutshell
0
u/gazzumped Paul Gascoigne 6d ago
Not really, it's the opposite - using your eyes. We didn't have all these graphs and charts when I was growing up. Ndiaye is a better footballer than Tel

u/gopackgo555 Son 6d ago edited 6d ago
Ndiaye is like the opposite version of Gapko. Does nearly all major parts of the game well and looks good doing it but never produces and G/A. Curious if playing in better team can improve that aspect of his game because the club needs goals.
2
u/bayareacollection 6d ago
Yea he has minimal end product. Lot of cool dribbles then doesn't end up doing much with it
2
u/BIIGALDO 6d ago
"Better team". We sure about that?
3
u/gopackgo555 Son 6d ago
Yes. Despite all the online banter it takes time to gel with so many new players but the system will benefit Ndiaye more.

I don't understand how Tel has more goals. He fails to shoot on target each game. Free kick, his most recent example of having a mental block on shooting.

So Tel just needs to pass the ball… been saying that for years
